1. Liverpool - transfer overviewpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 13 May

    Liverpool

    Invest when on top.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot won the Premier League this season with a squad inherited to him by Jurgen Klopp.

Players coming in: Last summer Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili joined the Reds, but was loaned straight back to the La Liga side.

The 24-year-old now moves to Merseyside for the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

From our earlier reports, Bayer Leverkusen winger Jeremie Frimpong is emerging as a target.

Players leaving: Trent Alexander-Arnold has already announced his departure when his contract expires this summer, with Real Madrid his likely destination.

Back-up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher may look for the exit door for first-team football, which is only further enhanced by the arrival of Mamardashvili.

Federico Chiesa was Slot's second and final purchase last summer, could he look for more pitch action after struggling for minutes?

  3. Transfer Q&A: How likely is Gibbs-White's move to Man City?published at 13:32 British Summer Time 13 May

Get Involved: WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Ed: Gibbs-White is the best player I’ve seen in the shirt since Collymore (other than perhaps Murillo). How likely is the noise around a move to Man City? Do they honestly view him as a direct replacement for De Bruyne? If it happens, what fee do you think is on the cards? He must be worth £60m plus in the current market? Please don’t leave Morgan!

Nick Mashiter: As Simon Stone mentioned earlier, he is on the radar at the Etihad - and why wouldn’t he be?

Gibbs-White has enjoyed a fantastic season and was rightly - even if it was a delayed call after initially being omitted - included in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad.

Nuno Espirito Santo said in January that the most important thing was not bringing players in, but keeping those who were already in the building. They are likely to share equal importance this summer, with Forest needing to build on what has been a great year.

Gibbs-White may need to add more goals to his game - he has six this season - but his form over the last 18 months shows Forest were right to pay a little over £40m to Wolves three years ago.

Taking that into account, and the market being as it is, then Forest would be well within their rights to look to double their money.

  4. Fulham - transfer overviewpublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 13 May

    Fulham

Marco Silva has enjoyed another good season in charge of Fulham, with his side 11th in the Premier League.

Emile Smith Rowe and Joachim Andersen have lived up to their price tags and delivered for the Cottagers in their first season, who will they be looking at this summer?

Players coming in? Fulham are reportedly interested in right-back Ben Johnson, 25, from Ipswich.

Players leaving? Reiss Nelson, Kenny Tete, Adama Traore, Raul Jimenez, Carlos Vinicius, Tom Cairney and Willian are all out of contract this summer.

A few handy players in that list....

  5. 'The perils of social media'published at 13:25 British Summer Time 13 May

BBC Sport football news reporter at Etihad Stadium

The perils of social media. Last month, with promotion from the Championship on the line, some overexcited Burnley fans invaded the pitch following an important victory over Sheffield United at Turf Moor. The Clarets then released a statement saying "anybody identified as entering the field of play will be subject to a stadium ban and in some cases police action".

Now a letter has been circulating on social media supposedly from the club addressed to a "Mr Fisher" stating they have "issued him with a lifetime ban" after "thorough review of CCTV footage".It looks genuine, professionally written and with the Burnley crest superimposed at the top of the page. Just one issue though, sources have confirmed that the letter is indeed fake, with fans and news outlets falling for the prank.

  6. Chelsea without a striker for crucial gamespublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 13 May

    Chelsea

Chelsea face Manchester United and Nottingham Forest in their remaining games as they look to return Champions League football to Stamford Bridge.

But they will have to do it without a striker.

Nicolas Jackson picked up a red card during their defeat by Newcastle for an elbow on defender Sven Botman and will serve a three-match suspension.

It means that Maresca will have no recognised striker to play in the final two games despite the club spending more than £1bn in transfers under their new owners.

Chelsea were already missing Christopher Nkunku (injured), Jadon Sancho (ineligible to face parent club United), Marc Guiu (injured) and Mykhailo Mudryk, who is provisionally suspended for alleged doping.

  7. Transfer Q&A: Are Chelsea looking to strengthen their attack?published at 13:17 British Summer Time 13 May

Get Involved: WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Sam: What are your thoughts on Chelsea's attack? I think Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku have got to go really.

Nizaar Kinsella: Hi Sam. Chelsea's absolute priority is to strengthen their attack by signing a striker and a right-footed left winger.

None of Sporting's Victor Gyokeres, Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, Ipswich's Liam Delap, Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike or even Napoli's Victor Osimhen have been ruled out and all are considered quality options in west London.

They all have pros and cons but the issue is also the competition with clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and even the powerhouses of Europe like PSG, who are looking at the same players.

In the wide attacker position, Chelsea have spoken to representatives of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho and Dortmund's Jamie Gittens in January. Those moves could be linked to whether Jadon Sancho signs permanently, or whether Mykhailo Mudryk can escape his provisional ban for allegedly failing a drugs test.

  8. Biggest Premier League transfer flopspublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 13 May

For every successful transfer that lights up the Premier League grounds, there are ones that crash and burn spectacularly.

So let's shine some spotlight on some of the worst signings in the Premier League.

    • Romelu Lukaku (Inter to Chelsea) - £97.5m

Romelu Lukaku returned to Chelsea, the club he loved as a kid, in 2021 after firing Inter to Serie A title with 24 goals. But after scoring just eight goals in 2021-22, he went back to Italy on loan and never played for the Blues again.

    • Bebe (Vitoria to Man Utd) - £7.4m
Bebe of Manchester UnitedImage source, Getty Images

Sir Alex Ferguson hada rule of watching a footballer play in person before signing him. But he broke that rule with disastrous consequences when signing Bebe. The striker played just two Premier League games, costing United £1.06m for an appearance on average.

    • Danny Drinkwater (Leicester to Chelsea) - £35m
Danny Drinkwater of ChelseaImage source, Getty Images

Chelsea and Antonio Conte reunited Danny Drinkwater with N'Golo Kante, the duo who helped Leicester City win the historic Premier League title in 2016, at Stamford Bridge. But the midfielder played just 23 games over five seasons after joining for £35m.

    • Antony (Ajax to Man Utd) - £86m

Erik ten Hag brought Antony with him after joining Manchester United from Ajax. Expectations were high on the Brazilian winger after arriving on £86m, but after scoring 12 goals in 96 appearances, he left for Real Betis on loan in January.

    • Andy Carroll (Newcastle to Liverpool) - £36m

Andy Carroll arrived at Liverpool alongside Luis Suarez, but it was the Uruguayan who went on to light up Anfield. Carroll only scored 11 times during his stay after signing for £36m while £22.8m Suarez had a very contrasting fortune.

Guy from Nottingham: As an Arsenal fan, I understand the need for a proper striker, but I’m not sure spending £150m on Alexander Isak is the best use of our money.

Do you think we would be getting a Benjamin Sesko or Jonathan David for a cheaper price and then strengthening other positions like left wing or attacking midfield, or splashing the cash on one complete game changer like Isak?

Alex Howell: Hi Guy, that problem is exactly why Arsenal have hired Andrea Berta. There is no doubt that Isak would take Arsenal up a level. He’s proven that he is a top-level forward, and his goal record this season shows that again.

Signing him is very difficult and is made even harder if Newcastle get into the Champions League.

Sesko has been monitored for a while, is younger and would fit the Arsenal profile.

As a previous question has asked, I think Arsenal need an attacking midfield player as well as a forward to supplement their attack.

  10. Palace hitting new heights under Glasnerpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 13 May

    Crystal Palace

Oliver Glasner helped Crystal Palace book a first FA Cup final since 2016 by beating Aston Villa 3-0 in the semi-finals last month.

And the Eagles will hope to lift the prestigious silverware for the first time in their history when they meet Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the title clash at Wembley this Saturday.

Their 2-0 win against Tottenham at the weekend saw them improve their Premier League points tally to 49 points with two games remaining.

It means that they have matched their record points tally in the Premier League for the second season running under Glasner and they will be confident of making it their best-ever campaign with games against Wolves and champions Liverpool still to go.

Glasner's achievements is all the more impressive considering he lost his star attacker Michael Olise to Bayern Munich last summer.

  11. Transfer Q&A: Is Glasner staying at Palace?published at 12:56 British Summer Time 13 May

Anon: Hi, I wanted to ask you about the Glasner situation. Is he staying at Palace? Any news regarding his possible contact extension? Any info would help my anxiety. Thanks.

Alex Howell: When we reported that the contract talks between Crystal Palace and Oliver Glasner were at an early stage, they really were.

And Glasner has played down talks about his future in every press conference he has been asked about it.

As you can imagine, those at Crystal Palace want to keep Glasner for what he has done in the last year and that will only increase if Palace get into Europe by winning the FA Cup.

He still has a year left, but there has been interest in him before.

The main takeaway is that the manager has a lot of bargaining power in these talks and that will only increase if Palace win the FA Cup Final.

  12. Transfer Q&A: What will Spurs' summer transfer strategy be?published at 12:52 British Summer Time 13 May

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

Mike: As a Spurs fan, I keep looking at the transfer gossip but what is the point? Ange is probably going to be gone, so why would we be looking at any players before the new gaffer is chosen? However, if they were going to the market, what do you believe they need?

Sami Mokbel: Yes Mike, there is certainly an element of Tottenham being in a state of flux until Ange Postecoglou’s future is officially decided, as targets will want to know who the manager is before committing to Spurs.

Also, Tottenham will not know the full size of their summer budget until they know if they are playing Champions League football next season. So there are a few ifs, buts and maybes to conclude before Tottenham can finalise their approac - but they will be in the market for a wide attacker.

They like Eberechi Eze, who has a £60m plus £8m release trigger, but the Crystal Palace man is likely to have other options.

They also have a long-term interest in Matheus Cunha, but Manchester United appear to be ahead in that race

All eyes will be on the futures of Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie too, who are courting interest from rival clubs. If Romero or Udogie leave, Tottenham will enter the market for a centre-back or left-back, respectively.

Tottenham tried and failed to sign Marc Guehi in January, but the Palace defender remains on their radar.

Chelsea have an extensive list of players on loan, including 12 senior players.

It includes players at National League South's Hampton & Richmond Borough to Serie A's Juventus and Santos in Brazil.

Here are but a few of them:

    • Kepa Arrizabalaga - Bournemouth
    • Djordje Petrovic - Strasbourg
    • Ben Chilwell - Crystal Palace
    • Axel Disasi - Aston Villa
    • Renato Viega - Juventus
    • Carney Chukwuemeka - Borussia Dortmund
    • Joao Felix - AC Milan
    • Andrey Santos - Strasbourg
    • Lesley Ugochukwu - Southampton
    • Armando Broja - Everton

Tom: Do you know if Chelsea will be recalling some loan players for the Club World Cup? I'm hoping that Djordje Petrovic (still our best goalkeeper) and Andrey Santos get given the chance. It will make a pointless tournament much more interesting for me.

Nizaar Kinsella: Hi Tom. It is nearly certain that midfielder Andrey Santos will be involved and I also think goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic could be.

Petrovic is attracting a lot of transfer interest from within the Premier League and in Europe - and Chelsea might be tempted to sell him before the tournament starts.

  15. Everton - transfer overviewpublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 13 May

    Everton

Everton sacked Sean Dyche in January and brought in former boss David Moyes.

The Toffees are sitting 13th in the Premier League table and Moyes will be looking to improve his squad this summer.

However, the move to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock may mean they have to invest smart.

Players coming in? Tottenham and Brazil forward Richarlison has been linked with a return to his former side.

Players leaving? Forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jack Harrison, Michael Keane and Ashley Young are three notable players out of contract this summer.

Club captain Seamus Coleman will also see his contract expire. Could this be the final season for the 36-year-old Everton legend?

  16. Transfer Q&A: Should Fulham give academy players a chance?published at 12:36 British Summer Time 13 May

Get Involved: WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

    Alex Howell
    BBC football news reporter

Kevin: Fulham need to clear out at least five or six senior players and not only bring in some young talent, but also give some of the youngsters proper game time. We have a great academy but we only give them one or two a chance. Josh King has been in and around the first team squad all season but he has had minimal game time. On Saturday, when we needed something a bit different, Marco Silva brought on Willian and Tom Cairney when he had Martial Godo and King on the bench. It has become very predictable, so how will a mid-table team like Fulham attract the young players they need to progress?

Alex Howell: It's exceptionally hard for young players to break into a first team at Premier League level.

Marco Silva has built a very experienced squad, but I am always impressed about what he gets out of the players he has available to him.

I think if you look at other teams who are able to attract young players, the best thing to show them, unfortunately for Fulham, is that there is a pathway to move to a top team, whether that is in Europe or the Premier League.

If you look at Palace, they have had success buying from the Championship as they are able to say ‘look, sign with us and you can get a move to a top team. ’ Michael Olise has gone to Bayern Munich and Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi (after a loan to Swansea) and Adam Wharton have all broken into the England squad after a move to Palace.

The key for Fulham will be to have a success story to point to.

    Andre OnanaImage source, Getty Images

Sharkyward: I believe Man Utd will need to replace Andre Onana this summer, but who would Ruben Amorim consider to be a good replacement to play his system?

Simon Stone: I really think they hope not to be bringing in another experienced goalkeeper. Tom Heaton will leave when his contract expires in the summer and it is virtually certain Altay Bayindir will go as well. United do have some good young goalkeepers in Elyh Harrison and Hubert Graczyk but Antwerp's Senne Lammens is a name I hear quite often, so I wouldn't be surprised if United go for him.

However, at 22, with no experience of European competitions and no senior caps, it feels too much of a leap to bring him in as a first choice. However, Lammens has a lot of promise, so if he came in, Amorim could gauge for himself whether the Belgian was good enough.

    Sami Mokbel

Chris: Liverpool will probably replace Darwin and Jota this summer. I'm hoping for Lautaro Martinez personally, but I have no idea what fits the club’s profile these days. Victor Oshimen is another player I thought would be a fit. What are your thoughts about LFC's misfiring No.9 position?

Ben: If Isak is off the table for Liverpool, which other forward seems most likely? I really like Sesko but don't see him linked at all...

Sami Mokbel: There aren't many strikers on the market, which is a problem for clubs like Liverpool who actually need one. It also means the prices aren't cheap.

Alexander Isak is dream target for Liverpool, but that looks virtually impossible this summer owing to cost. Newcastle will likely demand a astronomical figure, way in excess of £120m, for Isak - that sort of fee is unrealistic for any club to meet.

So the other options appear to be Benjamin Sesko, Hugo Ekitike and Viktor Gyokeres. Lautaro Martinez is a wonderful forward, but you'd imagine it would be very difficult to prize him away from Inter Milan at the moment.

We know Liam Delap is available for £30m, but it's hard to foresee a scenario where the Ipswich striker becomes Liverpool's starting centre forward.

There is striking talent out there, but it is a sellers market which is expensive news for Liverpool.

  20. Transfer Q&A: Could Eze and Watkins join Arsenal?published at 12:18 British Summer Time 13 May

Get Involved: WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

    Alex Howell
    BBC football news reporter

Arsenal fan: I'd love to see Eberechi Eze and Ollie Watkins come in. Could you see that happening in a World Cup year? Could have both club and country front three.

Alex Howell: I think most Arsenal fans would be happy to see a striker come through the door. From what I was told by sources at Arsenal, the Watkins situation in January came about after they were made aware of the possibility that Aston Villa would be willing to sell a striker. This was before they had completed the deal for Jhon Duran to go to Saudi Arabia.

People within the club at Arsenal valued him at around £40m, and those at Villa saw him at closer to £60m, and that was the end of it.

As my colleague Sami Mokbel and I have reported, Arsenal are interested in Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko alongside Alexander Isak.

All are different profiles and all are younger than Watkins. The situation with Watkins is definitely interesting, though, as before Marcus Rashford’s injury, he wasn’t getting the game time he was happy with.

As well as all of the talk about a striker coming in. I think Arsenal’s biggest problem is that they don’t have many players who can make something happen off the cuff. Bukayo Saka is obviously elite, but teams tend to sit deep against Arsenal and double up on him. Eberechi Eze can beat a player and make something happen from nothing.

Eze’s release clause kicks back in this summer too. During the last summer transfer window, Palace were willing to negotiate under his release clause, but if they win the FA Cup and get into Europe, I doubt that will be the case this time.
