1. Brentford - transfer overviewpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 13 May

    Brentford

Brentford, sitting eighth in the Premier League, have had another excellent season under boss Thomas Frank.

Frank's side are unable to finish in the European spots but will hope to attract more promising talents.

Players coming in: Maybe our reporters could help....

Players leaving: Centre back Ben Mee started 37 Premier League games in 2022-23, but this season has struggled for a consistent starting spot and is out of contract this summer.

Bees striker Bryan Mbeumo has scored 18 league goals this campaign to fill the void of Ivan Toney, who joined Al-Ahli last summer.

Plenty of sides would pay big bucks for a proven Premier League goal scorer.

Alex, London: How much truth is there to the rumours Bukayo Saka is now unsettled at Arsenal and where do you think he will go? Madrid? City? Maybe even Newcastle? What about Saliba? Is he now a shoo-in at Madrid, given Arsenal's poor end to the season?

Alex Howell: I don’t think there is any truth to that. Before the Champions League quarter-final with Real Madrid he said "I want to win and I want to win wearing this badge so I think it's pretty clear.” When asked about his future. The fans love Saka, and he loves being at Arsenal. Of course top level players want to win but I don’t feel there’s any chance of him leaving.

  3. Transfer Q&A: Is there a reason behind Sterling 'fall off'?published at 12:05 British Summer Time 13 May

Luke in Somerset: What have been the reasons for Raheem Sterling's massive fall off? He has gone from being one of the best players in the Premier League to a player that doesn't seem to fit in any team he goes to. What transfer could help rejuvenate his career - similar to Marcus Rashford at Aston Villa?

Nizaar Kinsella: Hi Luke. I think Sterling and Rashford is a good comparison. Both players are among the best paid in the entire Premier League, with Sterling the highest-paid player on Chelsea's books on his £300,000-a-week wage.

Of course his exit from Chelsea on loan to Arsenal last summer was a big story, especially after he played in pre-season under Enzo Maresca. Sterling was supposed to be Chelsea's marquee signing for Thomas Tuchel, but several managers later he is being bombed out.

I don't actually think Sterling played too badly for Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter or Mauricio Pochettino, but he is a victim of circumstance.

He risked rotting in Chelsea's 'bomb squad' late last summer, before being given the chance to go to Arsenal. Unfortunately, he hasn't played well there but it can't have helped that he has effectively been used as an emergency back-up by Mikel Arteta, with the club never likely to sign him permanently.

He looks likely for another loan spell somewhere next summer, in my opinion, given clubs won't want to pay his full wage.

It's also worth noting that Sterling has rejected the chance to move to Saudi Arabia in the past...

  4. Bournemouth - transfer overviewpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 13 May

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth are sitting in 10th and will be aiming to match or better their best Premier League finish of ninth in 2016–17. The Cherries will want to build under Andoni Iraola and push for European football.

Players coming in? Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga joined on season-long loan from Chelsea in the summer and has been a success, but given the 30-year-old is the world's most expensive goalkeeper after moving to the Blues in 2018 from his boyhood club Athletic Bilbao for £71m, and is under contract until 2026, a big enough fee will be required.

Players leaving? Hungary's 21-year-old left-back Milos Kerkez has been a standout performer this season and is likely to attract interest from top teams, while 20-year-old Dean Huijsen, who has a £50m release clause in his contract, made his Spain debut this year and too is highly rated.

    BBC Sport football news reporter

Michael in Hackney: There's lots of clamour from Liverpool fans to promote Conor Bradley to our first choice right-back. However, I think a lot of them are saying so to simply tell Trent Alexander-Arnold that we won't miss him! Are there any right-backs out there that you think could be suitable to join Liverpool and provide healthy competition for the spot that Trent is leaving? Thanks.

Nizaar Kinsella: As Sami has just reported, I think Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong is the best option for Liverpool. He is maybe more gettable now manager Xabi Alonso seems destined for Real Madrid.

One remarkably good option is Nottingham Forest's Ola Aina, who is available for free at the end of the season. For me, he has arguably been the best right-back in the league.

Fulham's Kenny Tete is also available on a free transfer - but much will depend on whether Liverpool are ready to promote Conor Bradley as their first choice option.

  7. Who is Jeremie Frimpong?published at 11:53 British Summer Time 13 May

Will we be seeing Jeremie Frimpong in the Premier League with Liverpool next season?

The 24-year-old, who won the Bundesliga title and German Cup last year with Bayer Leverkusen, largely plays as an attacking wing-back for the German club and has scored 23 goals in 133 appearances.

The Dutchman was once on Manchester City's books, joining the club at the age of nine and spending nearly a decade there. He opted to leave and joined Celtic, before Leverkusen signed him in January 2021.

Frimpong made his debut for the Netherlands in a Euro 2024 qualifying match against France in 2023, although he was included in the World Cup squad a year earlier but did not feature.

    Liverpool

Liverpool did not buy or sell a player during the winter window, but they will definitely be looking for reinforcements during the summer ahead of their Premier League title defence.

A top striker will be at the top of the wishlist for Arne Slot while there is also the need to replace the outgoing Trent Alexander-Arnold.

And according to BBC Sport's Sami Mokbel, Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong is emerging as a target for the champions of England.

Who is Frimpong? And who else could the Reds look at to fill the void left by Alexander-Arnold? Let's have a look.

  9. Your questions answered - What's the sporting director's role on transfers?published at 11:42 British Summer Time 13 May

    Ask Me Anything

So Crystal Palace will not only be in the hunt for players this summer but also a director of football/sporting director/technical director.

And BBC Sport's Ask Me Anything team have received some questions regarding the sporting director's role during a transfer window.

Farewell in South Africa asked: What's the role of a sporting director and first team coach role on new player acquisition (transfers)?

The sporting director will tend to have a long-term vision for the club, while the head coach will be thinking more short-term.

The sporting director role will ensure the potential signings fit in with the club’s playing style and culture. The process would involve months of planning and meetings with the head coach and club owners, chairperson or chief executive. The sporting director will work with the recruitment team to scout players. The sporting director will be at heart of negotiations for a transfer – they will be responsible for contacting the selling club and player’s representatives.

To manage continuity of transfers and signings, a sporting director tends to be at the club longer than first team coaches and are usually responsible for long-term planning.

  10. Crystal Palace - transfer overviewpublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 13 May

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace are one win away from lifting their first major trophy (that's Saturday's FA Cup final with Manchester City, in case you didn't know!)

But with the club announcing in March that Dougie Freedman will leave his role as director of football at Selhurst Park, it may affect summer transfers.

Players coming in? Palace have been linked with Newcastle midfielder Joe Willock.

Players leaving? Highly rated left-back Tyrick Mitchell is contracted until 2027 but has been linked with AC Milan, while right back Nathaniel Clyne, who re-joined Palace in 2020, could depart when his contract expires this summer.

Forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, 27, has scored 14 goals in the Premier League this campaign and has attracted interest.

Eberechi Eze and Ismaila Sarr, who replaced Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise, also enjoyed impressive seasons and could be on the radar of some top clubs.

  11. Summer window to have early transfer deadlinepublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 13 May

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter

The best bit of transfer business - for football reporters anyway - has already been done.

The Premier League deadline will close at 19:00 BST on 1 September.

Usually the window closes at 23:00, which means with deal sheets, you can end up working well into the early hours.

However, this year they have gone for a more consumer friendly time, with the rest of European football's big leagues following suit.

There are bound to be some outliers. Turkey for instance usually stays open for a bit longer, which is how Napoli striker Victor Osimhen was able to complete his loan move to Galatasaray after falling out with Antonio Conte.

But an early evening deadline is great business.

Bayer Leverkusen winger Jeremie Frimpong is emerging as a target for Liverpool this summer.

Initial overtures towards a deal have begun and have continued in recent days.

Frimpong has a reported €40m release clause with Liverpool interested in the wide player.

Certainly one to watch in the coming weeks.

  13. Some of the most exciting Premier League transfers everpublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 13 May

Football transfers can do many things - they can inspire, galvanise and shock.

With another transfer window soon on the offing, here are some of the most exciting signings the Premier League has seen.

    • Robinho (Real Madrid to Man City)

What a way for Manchester City's new owners to announce themselves. Brazil and Real Madrid forward Robinho had been a target for Chelsea, but City managed to secure a whirlwind £32.5m deal, a British record at the time, before he scored on his debut - against the Blues.

    • Andriy Shevchenko (AC Milan to Chelsea)

When back-to-back Premier League champions Chelsea signed Andriy Shevchenko, arguably Europe's best striker in 2006, things looked ominous for the rest of the division. Yet, despite scoring on his debut in the Community Shield against Liverpool, Shevchenko never asserted himself at the club ahead of main striker Didier Drogba.

    • Alan Shearer (Blackburn Rovers to Newcastle United)

After scoring 34 goals en route to Blackburn Rovers' only Premier League title in 1995 and then winning the Golden Boot at Euro a year later, Alan Shearer was a hot commodity. Newcastle signed him for £15m and he went on to become their record scorer, but never managed to lift any silverware.

    • Mesut Ozil (Real Madrid to Arsenal)

Having proved himself to be one of the best playmakers in the world at Real Madrid, Mesut Ozil was heralded as the catalyst for a new dawn at Arsenal once his £42m transfer was sealed But after a positive start, his impact waned and relations between club and player began to sour after Wenger left in 2018.

    • Wayne Rooney (Everton to Man Utd)

Wayne Rooney was already a boy wonder before Euro 2004, having burst on to the scene at Everton as a 16-year-old. two years beforehand. Manchester United shook off competition from Newcastle to secure a record deal for a teenager at £27m and Rooney eventually helped United to five Premier League titles and the Champions League before becoming their all-time top scorer in 2017 with 253 goals.

Wouldn't it be great to see Florian Wirtz in the Premier League next season if Manchester City do beat the likes of Bayern Munich for his signature?

This might well be a good time to look at some of the most exciting transfers the Premier League has seen over the years.

  15. Transfer Q&A: Could Wirtz replace De Bruyne at Man City?published at 11:12 British Summer Time 13 May

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter

Franek: Morning, transfer experts. Kevin De Bruyne leaving has been a big hit for us Manchester City fans. What I want to know is who can City buy to replace the huge hole that he's left? The ideal option for me would be Florian Wirtz but I want your opinion.

Simon Stone: I think Wirtz would be a great option Franek.

With Xabi Alonso leaving Bayer Leverkusen for Real Madrid, there is a deal to be done, although Bayern Munich are also keen and they have a long history of buying big names from German rivals.

Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White is also on Pep Guardiola's radar, although it remains to be seen how easy it is to deal with Evangelos Marinakis.

Kevin de Bruyne will leave a huge hole but the reality is he is not the same player as he was and City need to move on.

Along with Jamie Vardy, Kevin De Bruyne is another Premier League great who will soon be on the hunt for a new club.

The Belgian will leave Manchester City when his contract expires at the end of the season.

De Bruyne, 33, has won 16 trophies since joining from Wolfsburg in 2015, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2023.

How will Pep Guardiola and City cope in the post-De Bruyne era? The answer might lie in the Bundesliga.

  17. Transfer Q&A: Jamie Vardy to MLS?published at 11:01 British Summer Time 13 May

Get Involved: WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Dom, Surrey: Any rumours on where Jamie Vardy might go? Will he try to stay in the Premier League or will he go down to the Championship so he can be the ‘main man’?

Nick Mashiter: Jamie Vardy will still be an asset for whichever club he joins this summer, given his experience and desire to keep scoring goals.

He has got nine goals this season, perhaps outstripping expectation - especially in a team that has struggled to score - and he needs one more to reach 200 goals for Leicester, with just two games of his Foxes career left.

Vardy enjoyed a good relationship with Dean Smith during his brief spell at Leicester, with the former Foxes boss now doing well with Charlotte in the MLS.

He was eager to sign Vardy last summer so don't be surprised if there is interest there, although you can rule out any links to Wolves.

The 38-year-old will likely have to take a pay cut for his next move but there is a clear inner belief that he can still play in the Premier League.

One player many of us will be keeping an eye on this transfer window is Jamie Vardy.

The Leicester City captain will leave the club at the end of the season but intends to continue his playing career.

The 38-year-old striker, who joined in 2012 from non-league side Fleetwood Town, is the club's record Premier League scorer with 143, and in all competitions has scored 198 goals in 498 appearances.

Nick Mashiter is here to shed some light on Vardy's situation.

  19. Kudus has failed to match debut seasonpublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 13 May

    West Ham United

Mohammed Kudus of West Ham United celebratesImage source, Getty Images

Simon talked about West Ham's plans to sell Mohamed Kudus a little earlier, and it's fair to say the attacker has failed to live up to expectations this campaign.

Kudus arrived in England from Ajax on a £38m transfer in the summer of 2023, becoming the second most expensive Ghanaian behind only Thomas Partey.

He scored an impressive eight goals and bagged nine assists during his debut Premier League campaign for the Hammers while also contributing five goals in their run to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Kudus scored twice in the second leg of their last-16 tie as West Ham came back from a 1-0 first-leg defeat to win the tie 5-1 on aggregate.

However, the 24-year-old has failed to replicate his form this term.

He only has registered four goals across all competitions this season with his latest strike coming in a 3-2 defeat by Brighton last month.

  20. Aston Villa - transfer overviewpublished at 10:43 British Summer Time 13 May

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa are finishing the season strong as they look to secure Champions League football for the second year running, which could help attract more top players. Will their transfer business hinge on reaching the top five or not?

Players coming in? Villa attained the services of high profile attacking duo Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio in January on loan. Both have been a success at Villa Park but complications could come for a permanent transfer, given both would be on healthy wages at Manchester United and Paris St-Germain.

Players leaving? Reserve goalkeeper Robin Olsen is out of contract this summer and on loan Chelsea centre back Axel Disasi may look for more consistent minutes elsewhere.
