Manchester United fans would have been relieved to see Rasmus Hojlund back on the scoresheet in their 3-0 win against Leicester City on 16 March.

It was the Danish striker's first Premier League goal for the club in 14 games, in a match that also saw Alejandro Garnacho score his first league goal in 17 appearances.

Hojlund had not scored since 12 December and ended his 21-game goal drought against the struggling Foxes.

The 22-year-old was also on target for Denmark during international duty as he struck in the 1-0 win over his idol Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal and hit the iconic "siu" celebration.

So has the United attacker turned a corner during a season in which he has only scored thrice in 24 games?

  6. A rare alliancepublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 31 March

The collaboration between Manchester United fans and FC United, which initially will involve shared ideas and experiences, is the first formal link-up between the club and an organised United supporter group since the 2005 split.

There has been unease between some involved in the two sides over the past decade, with FC United fans feeling they took a moral and principled stand by walking away to ensure, as they see it, none of their money went to the Glazer family. Some United fans felt walking away was a sign of disloyalty.

There was a question to the 1958 representatives at Broadhurst Park asking whether they would come back on a day Manchester United were playing, with the response ‘this is a one-off then’ when the answer came back no.

However, the overwhelming response of those present was one of support.

“You can get a sense of apathy, with people thinking nothing can be done,” said FC United chair Nick Boom. “FC United is proof you can.

“You might not win the war but you will some battles and that is important.”

  7. Man Utd fans plan derby 'sit-in'published at 13:23 British Summer Time 31 March

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

The ‘1958’ Manchester United fans’ group is planning a ‘sit-in’ protest against the Glazer ownership of the club after next Sunday’s derby clash with City at Old Trafford.

The organisation made the announcement at Broadhurst Park as they confirmed a collaboration with FC United of Manchester, the breakaway club formed by United fans opposed to the Glazer takeover in 2005.

The 1958 Group organised a visual protest before this month’s Premier League draw with Arsenal.

However, speaking at a question and answer session ahead of FC United’s Northern Premier League encounter with Stockton Town, 1958 spokesman Steve Crompton explained the difficulties with mass protests.

“Tourist fans far outweigh legacy fans,” he said. “You are not going to get someone travelling halfway round the world not to go into a game.

“Against Aston Villa (in April 2023) around 3,000 fans stayed out when the game started but optically, it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever.”

With Ruben Amorim set to attend the news conference shortly, it's a good time as any to take a look at Manchester United's form before we took a break for the international window.

The Red Devils might still be sitting 13th, but they have picked up some form off late and are unbeaten in their past four Premier League games as they take on the high-flying Nottingham Forest.

After a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on 16 February, Amorim's men have held Everton and Arsenal while also defeating strugglers Ipswich Town and Leicester City.

They also breezed past Real Sociedad 5-2 on aggregate to reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League, where they face Lyon next month.

The myth that Arsenal have been worse off without Saka is false - with him 56% win, 38% draws, 6% losses - without him, 54% wins, 31% draws, 15% losses. It’s the striker they’ve missed.

Saka just back from three months out and Arteta plans to start him. It’s that over reliance that got him injured in the first place. Ease him back in.

BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

It will be interesting to see who Ruben Amorim has available for tomorrow's trip to Nottingham Forest.

Images released by the club from a training session on Friday showed Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro all present, plus goalkeeping duo Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.

That doesn't definitely mean they will be fit for the encounter at the City Ground but does has the potential to expand the number of players available for Amorim ahead of his crucial phase of the campaign, which includes a Europa League quarter-final tie with Lyon.

Manchester United's win at Leicester before the international break was overshadowed by an injury to defender Ayden Heaven, who was carried off in the second half after falling awkwardly.

The 18-year-old was making just his second career start after a move from Arsenal last month.

Ruben Amorim has also had Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro and Jonny Evans out injured recently while Harry Maguire missed the trip to his former club with a knock.

However, Maguire along with Shaw and Yoro returned to training this week and we expect to hear more from the United boss about the trio and more during the upcoming news conference.

  14. Where were we in the Premier League?published at 12:55 British Summer Time 31 March

    Premier League

It's almost April, and we're really into the final sprint to the end of the Premier League season. Nine games are left to go, but most of the outcomes for the campaign have almost been decided already.

Is it all a foregone conclusion or will there still be twists and turns? Here's a reminder of what's at stake:

    • Race for the title: Liverpool have a 12 point lead over Arsenal with 27 points still up for grabs. That means Arne Slot's side need 16 more points to claim the title. But is there hope for Arsenal? Liverpool's last two results before the international break were bruising defeats to Newcastle in the EFL Cup final and PSG in the Champions League, plus they've got the Trent Alexander-Arnold speculation to deal with.
    • Race for Europe: This is probably the most interesting 'race'. Nottingham Forest's remarkable season could end with a top-five finish in the Premier League, likely meaning qualification to the Champions League. Below Forest, you have nine clubs split by 10 points. Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle, Brighton, Fulham, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Brentford and even Crystal Palace in 12th have hopes of European football next season.
    • Race for survival: Not really a race, is it? The three promoted teams need a miracle to survive now. Ipswich and Leicester are nine points adrift of Wolves. Bottom club Southampton are just trying to avoid Derby County's record - they need three more points to reach 12 and beat the Rams' lowest-points total of 11 from a 38-game season.

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy on if he's confident his side can pick up the points needed to stay in the Premier League: "Our focus is on doing the best we can and that gives us the best chance to pick up points. It's tough.

"Ipswich and Southampton are in a similar situation. It's important to stay with the process and stay motivated, and with that I cannot ask any more."

  18. 'Smith Rowe needs to find the right consistency'published at 12:38 British Summer Time 31 March

Arsenal v Fulham (Tue, 19:45 BST)

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva on the form of midfielder Emile Smith Rowe: "There's been some up and downs. It doesn't surprise us for a player that was not playing enough football the last two seasons.

"Of course, he had a very good impact the first few months with us. After the second international break he had a little bit of a down, the December month was difficult for him. After that, he had some good games and others not so good. He needs to find the right consistency in his game to be able to perform.

"I don't doubt his talent and quality, but the Premier League demands so many things from you and you always have to be in very good shape and top level physically. This is something we have been working on with Emile.

"I can take many positives from him so far - he has probably played more than 20, 25 games and we have seen an impact in half of them. For a player like him, we are working with him to have more impact in a consistent way."

    Fulham

Now, let's move across London to Fulham - Marco Silva spoke to the media this morning.

The Cottagers were convincingly knocked out the FA Cup by Crystal Palace at the weekend, and face a tough challenge against Arsenal tomorrow night.

But Fulham are just four points off the top four, and a win against the Gunners would boost their chances of European football next season.

Let's get the best lines from that news conference now...
