It's poor defending - Singleton finds himself in loads of space and he's never going to miss from there.

    That will settle Glentoran.

  9. goal

GOAL- H&W Welders 0-1 Glentoranpublished at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

The away side grab an early goal!

A corner from Danny Amos, whose set-pieces have proved key for Glentoran so far this season, is headed home by James Singleton from point-blank range.

Just before the goal, the travelling fans were appealing for a penalty after Jordan Jenkins fell under the challenge of Lewis Patterson in the box.

That's a superb save [from Mills] - Glentoran will be looking to utilise that pace but the keeper holds his ground and makes the block.

Then it's another excellent save at the other end.

  17. Cliftonville set for emotional Solitude returnpublished at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

15 cup ties scheduled for Saturday

Cliftonville begin their Irish Cup defence on Saturday on what is sure to be an emotionally charged afternoon at Solitude following the death of defender Michael Newberry.

Newberry's sudden passing on 30 December at the age of 27 rocked the Irish League community, with Cliftonville's match against Dungannon Swifts and his former club Linfield's game with Larne both postponed as a mark of respect.

Following a flurry of touching tributes to Newberry from far and wide, the Reds are set to return to action when they host Banbridge Rangers in the fifth round of the cup, while Irish Premiership leaders Linfield take on Ballymena and Provincial Intermediate Football League outfit Wellington Rec at Windsor Park.

Earlier this week, Cliftonville confirmed Saturday's game would be preceded by a pre-match tribute to Newberry, who won the 2021 Irish Cup during his time with Linfield.

Having knocked out Queen's University, Mid Ulster Intermediate A side Banbridge Rangers are making their fifth-round debut, while Cliftonville prepare to make their first outing as holders after beating Linfield in last season's final to end a 45-year wait for their ninth Irish Cup.

Dundela stunned Irish League giants Glenavon in 1955 - 70 years on they will meet again

"Still the critics keep on raving. Glenavon, nothing but Glenavon....

"The Duns will never last the pace. A wee team out of the Alliance, for Goodness sake it wasn't a race."

It is known as one of the biggest shocks in the history of Irish League football.

For some, it's perhaps the greatest of them all.

The Irish Cup final of 1955 pitted an all-conquering, star-studded Glenavon side against third tier side Dundela.

That season alone, Glenavon had already won three trophies and were leading the Irish League with trio Jimmy Jones, Johnny Denver and Stewart Campbell scoring a staggering 101 goals for the Lurgan Blues.

  19. Welders have lost element of surprise - Keepublished at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

    H&W Welders v Glentoran (19:45 GMT)

Harland and Wolff Welders cannot rely on the element of surprise when they kick off the Irish Cup fifth round against Glentoran on Friday night, says their manager Paul Kee.

The Championship outfit, who sit fourth in the second tier, will host the 23-time winners in a game to be shown live on the BBC iPlayer.

And while the Glens, who train regularly at the Welders' Blanchflower Park, will be wholly familiar with their surroundings, Kee is aware they will now know all about their opposition too.

This is the second time the east Belfast sides have met this season with Glentoran needing an injury time equaliser from James Singleton and penalty shootout victory to progress in a County Antrim Shield first round tie in September.

"The Glens, we caught them by surprise a bit," Kee said.

"They wouldn't have known a lot of the players but they certainly do now."

  20. Darren Murphy's Irish Cup predictionspublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

Harland & Wolff Welders v Glentoran (Friday, 19:45 BST, live on BBC iPlayer & BBC Sport website)

East Belfast derby. Welders will enjoy a big crowd there Friday night. Declan Devine has his team on a brilliant run of form, unbeaten in eight. You have to look at Glentoran progressing.

    Prediction: 0-2

Cliftonville v Banbridge Rangers (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

Cliftonville winning their first Irish Cup in 40 years last year was brilliant for Jim Magilton, the staff and the players. Saturday will be a tough day after the sad passing of Michael [Newberry], but it'll be a day I'm sure all the NIFL football family and the Irish Football Association come together and respect the passing of a young man, and a very good footballer. Cliftonville will have too much for Banbridge on the pitch on what will be a very difficult day.

    Prediction: 3-0

Glenavon v Dundela (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

Paddy McLaughlin has got Glenavon in good form, they're coming in off the back of six massive points gathered over the Christmas period. I can't see anything other than a Glenavon win.

    Prediction: 2-1

Coleraine v Armagh City (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

It's a battle of the families! Shea Campbell being married to Dean Shiels' sister creates a family affair up in Coleraine. To be fair to Dean, Coleraine went to a difficult place on Saturday in Loughgall and got a good result. They'll be looking at the Irish Cup as an avenue where they can maybe get silverware.

    Prediction 3-1

Dollingstown v Ballyclare Comrades (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

I'm going to go for a shock here. I think Dollingstown will win. Obviously, with Stephen Small stepping down at Ballyclare, they'll be going into the game without a manager. There might be a wee bit of uncertainty with Ballyclare.

    Prediction: 2-1

Ballymacash Rangers v Ballinamallard United (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

Great game! I think it'll be the only game to go to extra time. Ballinamallard to win on penalties.

Ballymena United v Ards (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

Another great game. Ballymena coming in off a poor run of form in the league. Ards have some really experienced players.

    Prediction: 2-1

Annagh United v Portadown (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

    Prediction 1-2

Bangor v Newington (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

    Prediction: 2-0

Carrick Rangers v Newry City (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

    Prediction: 2-0

Linfield v Wellington Rec (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

    Prediction 4-0

Limavady United v Larne (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

    Prediction: 1-3

Dungannon Swifts v Rathfriland Rangers (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

    Prediction: 3-0

Knockbreda v Crusaders (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

    Prediction: 0-3

Institute v Loughgall (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

    Prediction: 1-2

Belfast Celtic v Moyola Park (Saturday, 15:00 GMT, coverage on Sportsound on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Ulster)

    Prediction: 1-0

Darren Murphy will be on commentary alongside Michael Hammond for Annagh United v Portadown at the BMG Arena as part of Sportsound's coverage of the Irish Cup.

You can listen to Sportsound on BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Sounds and on the BBC Sport website from 14:00 BST on Saturday for all the latest from the Irish Cup, with the sixth-round draw taking place on the programme.
