  2. East Belfast derby starts Irish Cup weekendpublished at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

    H&W Welders v Glentoran (19:45 GMT)

That special weekend of the Northern Ireland domestic football season season when phrases like 'potential banana skin', 'giantkilling' and 'cup upsets' enter the sporting vocabulary is upon us once again.

Yes, the start of January traditionally marks Irish Cup fifth round day and this year is no exception as we have 16 ties to salivate over as Cliftonville begin the defence of the silverware they won in May, 15 of those taking place on Saturday afternoon.

First up this evening though is an intriguing derby contest between H&W Welders and Glentoran at the Blanchflower Stadium as Paul Kee's hosts aim to kick off the knockout ties by getting the better of their east Belfast neighbours at the Blanchflower Stadium.

It took a penalty shootout to separate the sides in their County Antrim Shield meeting earlier in the season as the Glens survived a major scare to come out on top and progress in that competition.

The close nature of that encounter will ensure that there is no complacency in the visitors' camp tonight as Declan Devine's team commence their challenge for a first Irish Cup success since 2020 and a 24th in their history.

The Glens are on a run of seven games unbeaten but the Welders can boast good form too - coming into tonight's game on the back of three wins and a draw in their past four Championship outings to sit fourth in the league table.

You can enjoy full livestreamed video coverage of the match on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website, with live text updates on the website and app, plus in-play clips, a report and match highlights and reaction to follow.

So stay with us this Friday for all the action as it unfolds, We're 'up for the cup'. We hope you are too.
