  2. Old Trafford ticket protestpublished at 11:43 Greenwich Mean Time

Man Utd v Fulham (Sun, 16:30GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Manchester United and Fulham fans will hold a joint protest at Old Trafford on Sunday to complain about ticket prices for the FA Cup fifth round tie.

They say for away fans (and home members in equivalent seating), tickets for the tie were priced between £52 and £61 for adults, £41.50 and £48.50 for supporters aged over 65 and between the ages of 18 and 21, £31 and 35.50 for 16 to 17-year-olds and £25 for under 16s.

This, they feel, is too much.

"These outrageous prices show contempt for loyal supporters, who will face difficulties getting home after the game on account of the tie being switched to a 4.30pm kick off at the behest of the broadcasters," said Simon Duke, chair of the Fulham Supporters' Trust.

  3. Lack of CL revenue adds to Liverpool lossespublished at 11:30 Greenwich Mean Time

While we are on the subject of Liverpool, here are some more details from their latest accounts.

The Reds recorded a pre-tax loss of £57m in the 12 months up to 31 May 2024 - a rise of £48 from the previous year - came in a period when the club added four new players to their senior men's squad, spending about £165m on transfer fees to sign Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

That was the first season the club had not played in the Champions League since 2016-17, resulting in media revenue dropping by £38m to £204m.

That loss was partially offset by increased Premier League media revenue as a result of the Anfield outfit's stronger on-field performance in 2023-24 compared to 2022-23, when they finished fifth in the table and failed to win a major trophy.

Liverpool will deservedly win a poor Premier League this season with a squad in my opinion that isn’t as good as two or three seasons ago under Klopp. That squad had a very good Man City side to deal with among others. They’ve also had more than their fair share of good fortune no injuries to key players like Salah in comparison to Saka, a City-less Haaland and a Newcastle-less Isak, it all adds up. My club Chelsea have been abysmal for 10 games now and still lie in the Champions League positions, that’s how substandard the league is, but you can only beat what’s in front of you, so fair play to Liverpool, and Salah has been outstanding.

The PL banned funky pitch patterns (see 08:39) as it “hindered making offside calls”, so they made it all parallel. And the offside calls and VAR are soooo much better for it…(cough cough, no it isn’t cough)..

  7. Team news - FA Cup tie 'a little bit too early' for Dunkpublished at 10:59 Greenwich Mean Time

Newcastle v Brighton (Sun, 13:45 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

A final word from Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on injuries and availabilities? Is Lewis Dunk back? Are there any other changes?:

"So far, there is no other change. Hopefully, it stays like this. Of course we are looking forward to our skipper [Dunk] being back, but I think that the game on Sunday will be a little bit too early."

Hurzeler also confirmed that defender Eiran Cashin will be available for the game after missing out on the squad last time out.

  8. 'We have to be ready' for Isak - Hurzelerpublished at 10:54 Greenwich Mean Time

Newcastle v Brighton (Sun, 13:45 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on Alexander Isak's injury doubt and whether his inclusion in the Newcastle squad would change the Seagulls' approach to the game: "He [Isak] is a special player - a player who can make the difference. You can't replace a player like this because not every team has two, three or four players of this quality. Therefore, it is a different game if he won't play, but the thing is now we don't know it, so we really have to prepare as if Isak will start. We have to prepare for his actions, for his behaviour and how we want to defend this together as a group.

"You can't gamble and say he won't play. I am sure they will try everything to make him fit for the game and we have to be ready for that."

We have just been looking at Brighton's roll of honour.

They famously came close to beating Manchester United in the 1983 FA Cup final, with United keeper Gary Bailey saving a late effort from Brighton's Gordon Smith to keep the score at 2-2.

The final went to a replay, which Ron Atkinson's United won 4-0.

  10. 'We will make fans proud - but can't promise a title'published at 10:44 Greenwich Mean Time

Newcastle v Brighton (Sun, 13:45 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler started his news conference with a question on whether it is his ambition to bring some silverware to the club: "First of all, that's my job. I always try to give everything for the club and, of course, I always want the club to be the most successful we can be. That's my job, together with the staff and players, and therefore we try that.

"We promise everyone that we will try to give everything on the pitch and beside the pitch to make them proud, but we can't promise to win a title. That's the thing that we to work on and the thing we try to do in our daily behaviour and then we will see what will come in the future."

  14. 'I am all for semi-automated offsides as long as it is accurate'published at 10:28 Greenwich Mean Time

Newcastle v Brighton (Sun, 13:45 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on the use of semi-automated offsides in this round of the competition: "I've just seen it like everybody else has on various stages and I've quite liked it - the visuals look clear and simple. If it speeds up the game and makes decisions quicker than I am all for it as long as it is accurate."

  15. Howe hesitant to name a clear number onepublished at 10:19 Greenwich Mean Time

Newcastle v Brighton (Sun, 13:45 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was asked if Nick Pope is still number one or Martin Dubravka will be brought back in to the eleven: "I think we take it on a game by game basis as we do with all team selections. Part of the game is players can change your mind either way. We are always looking to pick our strongest team and it is up to the players to confirm their place or not."

  16. 'It is frustrating to have constant rumours of players leaving'published at 10:16 Greenwich Mean Time

Newcastle v Brighton (Sun, 13:45 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on rumours of Tino Livramento being linked with Man City: "I think it goes without saying, it is frustrating for us that we are constantly talking about players and rumours of them leaving. We want to go the other way, we want to go the other way and strengthen the group. We want to make our team and squad stronger for the future rather than lose our best players."

  18. Liverpool financial loss rose to £57m for 2023-24published at 10:11 Greenwich Mean Time
    Breaking

Liverpool made an annual pre-tax loss of £57m up to 31 May 2024 - £48m more than they lost in the previous 12 months.

However, the Premier League club's overall revenue rose by £20m to £614m in 2023-24, and its commercial income increased by £36m to £308m.

It is the first time Liverpool have reported commercial revenue of more than £300m in their annual financial accounts and mainly due to growth in partnerships and retail.

The 2023-24 period covered Jurgen Klopp's last season as manager, in which the Reds won the Carabao Cup, finished third in the Premier League and reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and Europa League.

  20. 'I will never classify us as a one man team'published at 10:09 Greenwich Mean Time

Newcastle v Brighton (Sun, 13:45 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on suggestions that they are a 'one man team': "We recognise Alex [Isak's] strengths and his abilities. I don't think we are a one man team, I will never classify us in that bracket but Alex brings unique qualities in that centre-forward role, in that pivotal middle role that we need.

"We have other ways of playing and other players' skill-sets to utilise. I thought there was a lot of good in our performance against Liverpool but we didn't hurt them enough around their box for sure."
