I have examined very carefully the demise of Leicester FC and believe I have found the precise moment their downfall began. It was the day the PL banned their snazzy pitch designs.

This picture also tells the story.

Is relegation already signed, sealed and delivered for the current bottom three?

Leicester's great escape in 2014-15 was incredible, after 27 games they were bottom with 18 points and seven points from safety, albeit with a game in hand. By the end of the season they were 14th with 41 points, setting the platform for that title win the following season.

So, it is possible. But it will take something even more extraordinary if they are to escape from this.

Cooper did have a better record, Guy, albeit not by much.

They were outside the bottom three though when he was sacked on 24 November after 12 league games.

But the change has not had anywhere near the impact the Foxes would have hoped - and the statistics make for concerning reading:

    • In his 14 games in charge, Van Nistelrooy has picked up just seven points, three fewer than previous boss Cooper managed this season (10 in 12 games).
    • No side has conceded more own goals in the Premier League this season than Leicester (three, level with West Ham and Wolves).
    • Leicester have also failed to score in each of their past four Premier League games, last doing so in February 2017 (a run of six).

As a Leicester neutral I found the sacking of Cooper and hiring of Van Nisterooy odd. Cooper had more experience in the PL and had kept Forest successfully up. I feel they might rue that decision.

Before Leicester City won the Premier League title in 2016, they pulled off one of the greatest of great escapes to avoid relegation to the Championship.

A repeat of that looks very unlikely this time - even though their current situation is not as precarious.

Back in 2014-15 they were rooted to the foot of the table for much of the season, only climbing off it in April as a run of seven wins from their final nine games took them to unexpected safety.

But this Leicester team look barely capable of winning one game, let alone going on a run of victories.

"We are going to get up again," vowed boss Ruud van Nistelrooy after the game. "We are still in this fight, mathematically we are there and we keep fighting as long as we can.

"It must be clear that the fight was only one half today and that is not enough."

If you're a Leicester City fan, I'd probably look away now.

Last night's defeat to West Ham was the Foxes 11th defeat in their last 12 Premier League fixtures.

They haven't scored a goal in 400 minutes of football and haven't scored a goal on home soil in the league since December 8.

It is not all about Leicester, West Ham were worthy of the points.

That's now back-to-back wins following that impressive victory over Arsenal, lifting them up to 15th, level on points with Tottenham and Manchester United, comfortably clear of trouble.

    West Ham 2-0 Leicester

    Gary Rose
    BBC Sport

Leicester completed one of football's fairytales when they won the Premier League in 2015-16, but the season before they produced another memorable story by avoiding relegation against the odds.

Back then they looked destined for a return to the Championship as they sat bottom of the table by April, but seven wins from their final nine games kept them up.

Their current situation is not as dire but the team, as things stand, do not look capable of pulling off an unlikely escape.

Defending has been a real problem for the Foxes this season and West Ham's two goals against them meant the visitors have now conceded 61 in 27 games, compared to 47 for the Hammers.

  13. Foxes relegation worries increase with West Ham defeatpublished at 07:42 Greenwich Mean Time

    West Ham 2-0 Leicester

It really doesn't look good for Leicester, does it?

The Foxes slipped to yet another defeat against West Ham on Thursday night - that's now 11 from their past 12 Premier League games, leaving them second-bottom and five points from safety.

Two goals in the first half did the job. Tomas Soucek celebrated his 30th birthday with the opener, firing in a loose ball after Mohammed Kudus' shot was denied.

The hosts then put the game beyond the struggling Foxes just before the break when Jarrod Bowen's shot from a tight angle deflected in off Leicester defender Jannik Vestergaard, after Jamie Vardy's header from a corner had hit the woodwork for the visitors.

The Guardian report that this summer's transfer window could begin earlier or even split into two parts to accommodate sides competing in the Club World Cup.

Not sure that will go down with the majority of sides that aren't competing in the Club World Cup.
