The Chelsea fans in the corner were up celebrating as Johanna Rytting Kaneryd could only find the foot of the post. It really should be 1-0.

In an almost defiant response, the Arsenal fans break out into 'champions of Europe, you'll never sing that'.

Almost a perfect start for WSL champions Chelsea as Johanna Rytting Kaneryd is fed in behind her full-back by Lucy Bronze and pokes an effort past the on-rushing Daphne van Domselaar but it bounces back off the base of the post.

50/50 game for me with too many people writing Arsenal off - I'd bite your arm off for a scrappy 0-1 win. No way do Chelsea run riot here.

Manchester United defender Hannah Blundell says she feels like a "trailblazer" after making her return to football last weekend, seven months after giving birth.

The 31-year-old came on as a substitute during her side's 3-2 Women's Super League (WSL) win at Brighton last week, making her the first Manchester United player in the professional era to play after giving birth.

Blundell delivered her daughter Romi by caesarean section on 31 March and her return seven months later came 533 days after her previous appearance.

In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Blundell said she is adjusting to being a "trailblazer" but wants her experience to inspire other sportswomen.

"It's kind of a new chapter for me but something that I'm really happy to be a part of - something I really want to push that more women do in the game, and that they come back and are still able to play football.

"Because yes, football is a short career but also having a family is something that a lot of people want to do, and they shouldn't not have to do it because of playing football."

It was only seven days ago that we were celebrating Chelsea captain Millie Bright for reaching her 300th game in Chelsea blue, but if she plays today she’ll hit a notable Women’s Super League landmark.

The former England centre back is on the cusp of making her 210th WSL appearance, which would see her tie Jordan Nobbs for the most out right appearances in WSL history.

She already has the most starts (197) and the most wins (142) recorded by a WSL player.

Manchester United boss Marc Skinner confirmed that the club intend to renew the contract of star striker Elisabeth Terland in the coming weeks.

The Norwegian has scored 9 goals in all competitions so far this season, picking up where she left off last campaign when she notched 12 goals and 6 assists in her debut season.

"It is under way", said Skinner when asked in his pre-match press conference.

"She [Terland] has been fantastic this season, as she has been since she's been here.

"There's a lot of love for Elisabeth here and I hope that we can retain her services and help her build to the target she wants to achieve, as well as we do."

Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor says that people would "probably be scared" if they knew what was going on in her mind on game day.

The Blues head across London to face Arsenal today still having never lost a domestic fixture since the Frenchwoman's arrival last summer, with Bompastor winning both games against the Gunners in her first season in charge.

"Going into every game, we have different scenarios and plans in our heads ready for action", said Bompastor in her pre-match press conference.

"It’s sometimes about what we pre-planned before the match, and sometimes it’s about what I see in the game. If I showed you on paper everything that is in my head on game day, you would probably be scared!"

She added, "We have different plans and everyone in the technical staff is ready to action them depending on what is happening on the pitch."

    SlegersImage source, Getty Images

Arsenal boss Renee Slegers has called on her players to be "ready from the get go" when they host champions Chelsea at the Emirates this afternoon.

The Gunners can ill afford a second league defeat of the campaign against the Blues given that they are already five points adrift of the leaders in the title race.

"From a preparation perspective and where the group’s at, we’re good. We’ve asked a lot from the player group and we’re in a good place", said Slegers in her pre-match press conference on Friday.

“Then the moment comes tomorrow at 12pm and we’ll have to be ready from the get go, it has to be delivered at that moment."

Slegers also thinks that the fans will play a key role if their side are to claim a first win in four against Chelsea.

She added, "Tomorrow is not only going to be those 11 players on the pitch, it’s going to be everyone. You feel it when you step out in the stadium. It’s that synergy that is so special, I think, that we’re all wanting the same thing."
