These sides have already served up two thrillers against one another this season - one win apiece, with the victors coming from two goals down to win 3-2.

Both of those were at Dens Park, with the hosts' victory in the latest meeting earlier this month ending a run of six games without a win over the Ayrshire side.

With Dundee having kept the fewest clean sheets - just one - and faced more goal attempts than any other team in the Premiership this season, this could be another high-scoring affair.

Especially as Tony Docherty's seventh-top side thumped in four goals past Hibs last weekend, although it's a different story for former boss Derek McInnes, whose Kilmarnock side are three points behind having suffered three consecutive defeats.

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin tells BBC Scotland: “That’s the hardest part, to try and get that level of consistency.

“We’re well aware that St Mirren will be coming here to put things right as far as they’re concerned and we have to try and match the aggression of St Mirren.

“We’ve got the to do the basics of the defensive side well.

"Of course, if we were to finish in this position at the end of the season, then it would be a fantastic campaign. But it's far too early to, you know, be taking too much notice of that."

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "David Watson hasn't trained all week. He feels fine to give us something from the bench, but we'll only use him if we have to.

"Danny Armstrong hasn't been at full pelt in recent weeks - he's been nursing a hamstring issue. Gary has done well for us from the bench so gets his opportunity."

As for recent high-scoring meetings, McInnes adds: "Who knows? Both of us would rather not concede so many, but there's no doubt the games have been exciting and fraught with anxiety. Both teams see set pieces as opportunities, normally both play a similar system."

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell tells BBC Scotland: "We feel we're going to have to be at our absolute best to contain the Hibs front line, which is glittered with talent and pace, but we also feel we can carry our own threat.

"We're almost two years into myself being the manager and we always work to how we want to play.

"We've shown good versatility and a good degree of performance whilst being able to get some results in there.

"What I want to do is try and show a reaction from a disappointing result last week. As a side we generally show good reactions to adversity."

Ross County manager Don Cowie tells BBC Scotland: "It's about us beign aware of the challenge we face.

"Despite the six changes, their quality is there. We have to be at our best and defend really well. And, when we get the opportunity, we need to take it.

"We know the difficulties with the pace they play at. It's about trying to limit that as much as possible."

If County are going to spring a surprise at Celtic Park, you imagine Ronan Hale will have a big hand in it.

The 26-year-old summer arrival from Cliftonville's 46 goal attempts is more than any other player in the Premiership this season.

From those, Belfast-born striker has garnered five goals, which means he is joint top scorer with nine others - including Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi.

Celtic weren't at their best on Wednesday but still managed a 1-1 draw at home to an impressive Club Brugge to inch closer to Champions League knockout stage qualification.

They have now gone 11 games without defeat since their 7-1 thrashing by Borussia Dortmund - their only defeat in 20 games this season - and are now two points clear at the top of the domestic table.

With Aberdeen and Rangers playing tomorrow, Celtic will be strong favourites to extend that lead considering they have beaten visitors Ross County in their latest 12 meetings.

County have only ever won once at Celtic Park in their history, losing their latest 11 by an aggregate of 34-3, and are without an away win in seven outings - and in 23 league games overall.

Celtic, meanwhile, scored at least two goals in each of their past 21 league games - and will fancy themselves to extend what is already the longest such run of scoring in their history.

United and St Mirren, two points and two places below in sixth, meet at Tannadice on the back of confidence-boosting results last weekend.

The hosts have only won once in five outings, but after holding title hopefuls Rangers to a 1-1 draw at Ibrox, they are now unbeaten in three - choose your fighter as they say.

St Mirren, meanwhile, are now unbeaten in four, winning three of them after their 2-1 win at home to Aberdeen, with the previous week's win over Hibs being their first away from home this season.

However, former St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin has led his side to two 1-0 victories over the Buddies already this season, including in the League Cup in August.

Hibernian head coach David Gray tells BBC Scotland: "I think the message for me straight after the Aberdeen game was that we need to start this game with that mindset.

"That feeling we had at the end of the game - there's been too many times that we've been on the receiving end of that sort of scenario in games.

"If we can use that as our turning point for the season, that has to be the message and build on that today with the confidence high."

As for sticking by his goalkeeper, he Gray adds: "Jordan Smith was put into a very difficult situation because of the scrutiny on that position, which is understandable.

"He knows he can do better for a couple of situations in the game, but you rely on all his experience to try and benefit from that. He's been very positive since."

With Hearts not playing until tomorrow, embattled Edinburgh rivals Hibs have the chance to move off the bottom of the Premiership table.

However, despite Tuesday's thrilling 3-3 draw with Aberdeen having lifted spirits at Easter Road, head coach David Gray's future remains under scrutiny after nine games without a victory.

Hibs have only lost once in their latest eight visits to Fir Park, but fifth-top Motherwell have already won their only meeting this season - 2-1 at Easter Road in October - and Gray probably cannot afford a repeat.

At least three of 13 non-Scottish Professional Football League teams are assured of making it through to Monday's Scottish Cup draw.

Banks O'Dee, Cowdenbeath and East Kilbride all knocked out League 2 sides last time out, so where are the most likely shocks this time?

Highland League outfit Banks O'Dee have it more difficult this time, hosting Hamilton Academical, while Lowland League side Linlithgow Rose entertain another second-tier team, Raith Rovers.

In-form League 2 side Edinburgh City might fancy their chances at home to Championship strugglers Dunfermline Athletic.

Irvine Meadow, from the seventh-tier West of Scotland League First Division, entertain Stenhousemuir, whose League 1 rivals, Annan Athletic, visit Highland League side Fraserburgh.

East Fife can return to the top of the table on goal difference if they win away to Bonnyrigg Rose in this weekend's only League 2 fixture.

However, Dick Campbell's side have gone five games without a win, including the defeat by Highland League side Banks O'Dee that explains the Methil team's absence from today's cup fixtures.

Bonnyrigg, meanwhile, have moved up to seventh after two consecutive wins.

A strong case can be made that the Premiership’s game of the day is at Tannadice, where Dundee United host St Mirren. Both are bang in form.

United have lost just two of their last eight league games, while the Paisley side have taken 10 points from a possible 12 in their last four matches.

Unsurprisingly, the hosts are flying high in fourth place – but the sixth-placed Buddies are just two points behind and will move above their opponents with a win.

Everything points to an absolute belter in the City of Discovery that will be as tight as United's two 1-0 wins over St Mirren already this season.

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson is pleased to be able to name the same starting XI in back-to-back games.

"Yeah, which is refreshing," he tells BBC Scotland. "Because early on in the season it was lack of availability and sometimes due to a little bit of lack of form. So it's nice to get a bit of consistency and I think the boys deserve to start again."

On his side clicking recently, currently on a four-game unbeaten run after a slow start to the season, he adds: "I don't think we were too far away. Obviously having the return of Conor McMenamin and Greg Kiltie allows us to play a shape that we wanted to get to.

”I mean, a lot of problems going off the field as well, so that wasn't conducive to us winning football matches or even having like a stronger options in the squad. So we've managed to navigate through that."

On midfielder Arne Engels, who drops to the bench, Rodgers adds: "He's a great player with great attitude. He has scope to push on.

"People look at him as a Matt O'Riley replacement, but he's not that. He plays as an eight but can also play as a six. Matt could play as an eight and as a 10."
