Even the most pessimistic Liverpool fan would not have seen a 4-1 defeat coming today after Cornelia Kapocs' first half opener, but they just can't seem to find a way past their Merseyside neighbours in the WSL.

After dropping more points (15) from winning positions than any other side in the WSL last campaign, they're set to drop three more on the opening day of this campaign.

A standing ovation for debutant Ornella Vignola. To score a hat-trick on your debut against Liverpool at Anfield surely puts you down in Everton folklore no matter what she does afterwards.

Nervy moments for West Ham as keeper Megan Walsh dwells on the ball outside her area and is almost charged down.

  18. 'Vignola has been exceptional today'published at 13:31 British Summer Time 7 September

    Liverpool 1-4 Everton

    Karen Bardsley
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Anfield

She's been brilliant. I think she scored two goals in pre-season for Everton as well.

She's a young winger with pace, energy and skill. She can take the ball on her right and then quickly chop inside on her left. We've seen numerous skills from her today and a fantastic header as well to boot.

I think she's going to be an exciting focal point or option when you see the likes of Kelly Gago return as well with loads and loads of potential. She's really stood out in pre-season and her performance today has been exceptional.
