Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso speaking to Dazn: "We did so many good things [against RB Salzburg] and now we are coming to the next stage and we want to have another good performance. We know we are facing another good team in Juventus but we are looking forward to it.

"The team on paper doesn't count for anything and we saw that yesterday with a couple of great performances from Fluminense and Al-Hilal. Today, we need one of them if we are to go through to the quarter-finals."

On Kylian Mbappe's fitness: "The idea is that he's good enough to come on in the second half for a few minutes depending on the circumstances of the game. We spoke and we had this idea together."

As Real Madrid prepare to face Juventus in the Club World Cup, it appears one rising star is already a key figure for new boss Xabi Alonso.

Nicknamed 'the Turkish Messi', Arda Guler struggled to live up to the hype last season under Carlo Ancelotti, but the 20-year-old is enjoying a fresh lease of life following the arrival of the Italian's replacement.x

This time last year, Guler looked poised to take a pivotal role in the regeneration of Real's midfield. But it didn't happen. Instead, 2024-25 turned into a lost season.

But then came Carlo Ancelotti's departure, Alonso's appointment, and so far nobody has benefited more than Guler.

Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham found fault with the pitch following his team's 3-1 victory over Pachuca.

"The pitches aren't great at all. It holds up the ball, the ball barely bounces," said the England midfielder.

"It's tough on the knees as well. Hopefully there's someone who will look at that going into the World Cup next year."

Juventus' players have been busy in the United States and attended a meeting at the White House while in the country for the Club World Cup.

But it got a bit awkward.

Real Madrid started the tournament with a 1-1 draw with Al Hilal, the Saudi Arabian side that eliminated Manchester City 4-3 after extra time yesterday. Real have scored six goals in their past two matches, comfortably beating Pachuca of Mexico and Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.

Juventus have had a mixed bag of results as they hammered Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates 5-0 and then followed that with a 4-1 victory over Wydad AC of Morocco, but then lost 5-2 to Manchester City to finish second in their group.

This match comes from Miami and starts at 3pm local time. The weather forecast says it is 31C, but feels like 41C and thunderstorms are a possibility.

If there is any lightning in a 10-mile radius, then the players will come off the field and the match will be paused. We've already seen that happen at six games in this tournament.

Xabi Alonso keeps faith with the Real Madrid side that started the 3-0 win over RB Salzburg in their final group game.

Kylian Mbappe is among the substitutes after recovering from gastroenteritis, while Eder Militao is also named on the bench for the first time since suffering knee ligament damage in November.
