Goals from Jordan Slew and Rhys Williams gave League Two club Morecambe a hard-fought 2-0 victory over National League South side Worthing in the FA Cup first round.
Slew opened the scoring in the seventh minute but the visitors did not wrap the game up until Williams’ 88th-minute strike.
Morecambe started the game on the front foot and soon took the lead.
Adam Lewis’ long throw from the left was headed down and Slew produced a stunning right-footed strike to beat Chris Haigh in the Worthing goal.
But from there the home side had the better chances. Nicky Wheeler forced Stuart Moore into an excellent save from a long-range shot.
Joe Cook missed a great chance to level the scores in the 44th minute when he blazed an effort over from the edge of the box after a flowing move.
The hosts started the second half on top with Tommy Willard seeing an effort superbly blocked by Luke Hendrie before Glen Rea’s overhead kick was brilliantly turned away by Moore.
But the Shrimps wrapped up the tie with two minutes to go when unmarked defender Williams headed home from a free-kick.
