Manchester City all over the shop here.

Arsenal's ball in behind the City defence finds Stina Blackstenius and it looks like she's going to make it three but Rebecca Knaak makes a crucial block at the last second.

Bad to worse for Manchester City!

Arsenal have a free-kick around 25-yards out and it's a lovely delivery into the back post and Lotte Wubben-Moy gets up, completely unmarked, to nod into the back of the net.

Arsenal in dreamland. City already with a massive task on their hands.

When Arsenal play Stina Blackstenius up top, I think it's a sign they're going to press you. She's so energetic. Everybody on the team knows that when she presses you're going to follow

    Man City 0-1 Arsenal

As mentioned earlier, Manchester City have earned 10 points from losing positions this season, more than any other side in the Women's Super League.

That's great. But Gareth Taylor will be wondering why it's always necessary?

  5. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Man City 0-1 Arsenal

Manchester City went up the other end and tried to get an equaliser straight away but Jill Roord's effort fizzed wide.

They have so far responded well to conceding that early goal.

    Man City 0-1 Arsenal

How many times in recent weeks have we seen this from Manchester City?

Playing out from the back, sloppy on the ball and getting punished for it.

The worst possible start for City and the best possible start for Arsenal.

City were caught out time and time again by passing it out from the back against Manchester United and Arsenal have just done the same thing.

Gareth Taylor is insisting on this style of play but how many goals will City give up by doing it?

You could see how high Arsenal were when Khiara Keating had the ball, Mariona Caldentey was so high and waiting for Laia Aleixandri to get the ball.

They were waiting to pounce. She gets into the 18 yard box and makes it look easy.

    Mariona Caldentey (1 mins)

Oh dear. It's an absolute gift for Arsenal in the opening minute of the match.

Khiara Keating passes out to Laia Aleixandri, who fumbles and hesitates and she's paid the price for it as Mariona Caldentey latches onto the ball and slots into the bottom far corner.

Nightmare start for City. Brilliant start for the Gunners.

Renee is the complete opposite to Jonas Eidevall in terms of her demeanour, how she talks, her mannerisms. Sometimes that's what a team needs as an individual - a calming voice rather than a motivational one.

Also these are top quality players. They know this season hasn't gone to plan and they know they need to change it around.

Vivianne Miedema is absolutely flying. Can we just talk about that goal that she scored against Aston Villa? Nobody in world football is saving that, just the way the ball bounced up.

Fair play to her, she’s had it tough coming back from an ACL. Then she came back, had another surgery and had to come back again. It’s a lot of time in rehab.

I definitely think repetition on the training field creates amazing habits and she shows that.

It was really lovely for her to have that interview afterwards and say she’s playing with a smile on her face because for Miedema to be thriving she needs to be happy, nothing else in her mind and that was really lovely to see.

She’s just a phenomenal talent, absolutely unbelievable.

These two have got a huge task on their hands. I'm sure they would have loved to be fighting for the title but that looks like it's heading for Chelsea.

Both teams need to put down a big marker and get those three points and really go for it.

  14. Pick of the statspublished at 11:55 Greenwich Mean Time

Man City v Arsenal (12:00 GMT)

    • Manchester City have won just one of their last seven meetings with Arsenal in the Women’s Super League (D2 L4), a 2-1 home victory in February 2023.
    • Arsenal are unbeaten in their last four WSL games against Manchester City (W3 D1), the only team currently on an unbeaten run longer than one game against the Citizens.
    • Manchester City have won 12 of their last 14 WSL home games (L2), though did lose last time out at home to Manchester United; the Citizens haven’t lost back-to-back league games on home turf since November 2021 (3 in a row).
    • Arsenal were beaten 1-0 last time out at Chelsea, but the Gunners have never before lost their first two Women’s Super League away games of a calendar year. Arsenal are also unbeaten in their last seven league visits to the North West (W4 D3).
    • Manchester City have won twice as many points from behind as any other team in the WSL this season (10) while only in 2018-19 have the Citizens rescued more points more losing positions in a single top-flight campaign (13).

Arsenal v Man City (12:00 GMT)

    Ellen White
Former England striker on Football Focus

Alessia Russo is back on form and that's what you want to see from such a phenomenal talent. She is always ready, always aware of her surroundings, and Renee Slegers has given her that confidence.

She has been working on the training field to get in those central areas in front of goal rather than being out in the wide areas and she is being given more opportunites at the moment.

  16. 'The intensity will be high'published at 11:52 Greenwich Mean Time

Man City v Arsenal (12:00 GMT)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Renee Slegers, speaking to Sky Sports, on the decision to start Stina Blackstenius: "She's just a great player that contributes in her way to our team. She's been doing very well lately and we think we need her today on the pitch so she deserves to start."

On how their recent defeat by Chelsea affects their approach today: "A lot of learnings from the last game. It's two good footballing teams going against each other, I've got huge respect for how Man City play and the way they're persistent with their style of play. We have our identity as well so it's two teams going against each other, we have our plan and hope we can capitalise and execute what we want."

On the need to bounce back from that loss: "I think parts of the game we were happy with, there's definitely things we could have done better that we all agreed upon and we'll try to apply that today. It was very tight game, we expect a tight game today again. Chelsea and Man City are two different teams but the intensity will be high as it was last Sunday."

  17. 'Today will be tight'published at 11:50 Greenwich Mean Time

Man City v Arsenal (12:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Gareth Taylor, speaking to Sky Sports: "[We have had] a couple of good wins for us, the response has been really good. Today the margins will be tight, two decent teams. We want to come out on the right side of it."

On selecting Khiara Keating: "She had to come out of the team with the concussion she got in the League Cup game at Manchester United. She's done well. Both goalkeepers have done well, providing a difficult decision for me to make. At the moment I think she's edging it and the trust is with her.

"I think goalkeepers need rhythm. If you look at overall what we've had this season looking at both the goalkeepers, I think Khiara is performing at a slightly better level. That's all. It's a decision which is a good one for us either way but at the moment Khiara gets the nod."

Arsenal had amazing momentum. Renee was unbeaten as interim and she’s the manager now. I think it’s really disappointing for her that that action [Katie McCabe's red card] had happened and they’ve then lost the game. I think they can take some real positives from the game.

They created a lot of chances, just needed to be a little bit more clinical in front of goal but obviously to lose the game in the manner that they did, from a penalty that wasn’t quite a penalty, is frustrating but they’ve got to focus on getting into the Champions League spots now.

They’ve got Manchester City and Manchester United ahead of them to chase. The draw for the Champions League is the 7 February so it will be exciting to see what happens with that one as well.

There's a lot riding on this match in terms of Champions League qualification next season.

City currently sit a point above Arsenal in fourth with both teams seemingly out of the title race given Chelsea's substantial lead.

A win for either side today would be a big boost in their hopes of securing a top-three place.
