Oooof, two-footed challenge that from Adam. Brutal.

I do like this transfers under the radar theme, though. Who else have we missed? Tyrell Malacia might be brilliant for a mid-table Championship club. Dominic Calvert-Lewin to stay in the Premier League?

For me, Beto at Everton is hugely under the radar. I would have thought loads of League Two clubs would interested - with a bit of consistent game time he might be good enough for that level!

Howdy everyone, thanks Ben and yep, fingers crossed for some actual confirmed deals.

After hearing Snoop Dogg has become a co-owner and investor at Swansea I wanted to open my stint with a decent pun to celebrate.

But nope, can't think of anything. I'll just have to Drop It...

Still no confirmed transfers to bring you during my stint but maybe Joe is the lucky charm?

  8. Why did Liverpool decide to sign Ekitike?published at 12:30 British Summer Time

Hugo Ekitike celebrates for Eintracht FrankfurtImage source, Getty Images

If Liverpool do sign Hugo Ekitike at Newcastle's expense, you'd imagine the Magpies will reflect on their decision to walk away from a £20m deal to sign the 23-year-old striker three years ago, only to then pivot and sign Isak.

Ekitike's emergence as one of the continent's best young strikers has led to his value sky-rocketing. His asking price is part of the reason Newcastle have failed to sign the Frenchman in recent days.

Ekitike's rise to prominence has also resulted in Europe's top clubs entering the equation.

When Liverpool come knocking it's hard to ignore. His 26 goals in 47 appearances for Frankfurt has been enough for the Merseysiders to take the plunge in a deal that will cost in excess of £70m.

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is aiming to have the deal for Ekitike closed by the end of the weekend, while Newcastle's wait for a new striker moves on.

  11. Was Isak interest a smokescreen?published at 12:13 British Summer Time

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

Liverpool's interest in Isak was - or rather is - entirely genuine. Newcastle, at least publicly, have maintained the Sweden international simply isn't for sale.

But for Liverpool to have stepped up their efforts to land Isak in recent days suggests they have had some private encouragement to the contrary.

Even if their decision to focus on Ekitike comes to fruition, you can expect Liverpool's interest in Isak to remain.

The former Real Sociedad forward, as things stand, will enter the final two years of his contract next summer - a juncture at which Newcastle face significantly more jeopardy.

Of course, Liverpool - with or without Ekitike - may enter next summer's transfer window believing they don't require another centre-forward.

But if they do, Isak is unlikely to be too far away from their thoughts.

Kyle Walker-Peters was reportedly close to joining Turkish giants Besiktas this summer. Had the move gone through, he would have been welcomed with the club’s famous viral marketing campaign - the iconic “Come to Besiktas” video.

Back in 2017, this simple clip featuring Ricardo Quaresma inviting teammate Pepe to Istanbul sparked a global meme, with fans using the phrase to try and lure players to the club. Though the transfer ultimately collapsed, the phrase perfectly captures the excitement and fanfare that surrounds a Besiktas signing.

But this isn’t the first time Besiktas have been out there on social. Over the years, the club has built a reputation for clever and sometimes cheeky online content - from playful player videos to bold social media challenges - that keep fans engaged and the club’s profile rising worldwide.

Though Walker-Peters’ transfer to Besiktas ultimately fell through, the club’s social media antics perfectly capture the excitement and personality that come with a move to Istanbul.

Kyle Walker-Peters came through the youth system at Tottenham Hotspur and made his Premier League debut for the club in 2017. Known for his pace, technical control and composure on the ball, he featured sporadically for Spurs before joining Southampton on loan in January 2020.

Over five years at Southampton, Walker-Peters made over 200 appearances in all competitions, including 169 league appearances. His versatility allowed him to play both right and left-back with equal comfort, and he became a consistent performer in a changing Saints side.

He played a key role in their 2023–24 promotion back to the Premier League, and despite the team’s struggles in the top flight last season, Walker-Peters remained one of their standout performers.

At the youth level, Walker-Peters was part of the England U20 squad that lifted the Fifa U20 World Cup in 2017. He earned a senior England call-up in 2022, going on to make two appearances for the national side.
