  2. 'The feeling is complete disappointment'published at 14:40 BST 5 October

FT: London City Lionesses 1-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Jenna Clark speaking to BBC Sport: "The feeling just now is complete disappointment and frustration. We did control spells of the game but second half we didn't do enough and in the end we just didn't do enough to win the game.

"New team together, new manager, we are still trying to find our feet. That is no excuse for it, we should still be doing enough to compete and to win games. It's really disappointing that we're not doing that just now."

On whether the group has still got that togetherness: "100%. That is something that we have always had and something we've still got. It's really strong. It's a rough time just now but we've got that togetherness and we will pull through.

"We'll review this game next week when we come back into training. We'll look at what we did well and what we need to do better for the next game."

  3. 'We're suffering at the moment'published at 14:38 BST 5 October

FT: London City Lionesses 1-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool head coach Gareth Taylor, speaking to BBC Sport: "Disappointment is a word that would come to mind. We controlled large parts of the first half, looked the team more likely but we gave up that control in the second half. That was probably due to a number of things, maybe the quality of London City's players, maybe fatigue a little bit for us in the way we were pressing. At the moment we need to be putting in 90 minute performances. At the moment we're seeing glimpses of some good things. The players are trying their very best, we're all working tremendously hard but at the moment we're suffering.

"Fitness levels probably need to be looked at, we need to get a bit fitter. And also be able to repeatedly sprint in the way that we want to and that can take time, particularly when you're changing what we're trying to change here at the club and bring in a new style and a new way of playing, Like I said, the things to hold onto are that, that we are seeing some good signs. It's just maintaining those levels is a problem at the moment."

  4. 'I don't want to get into trouble'published at 14:36 BST 5 October

    FT: Tottenham 1-0 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Dario Vidosic, speaking to Sky Sports on the refereeing: "I don't want to get in trouble. I think there's two clear penalties. First half and 100% one in the second half with Kiko [Seike], gets cleanly taken out from my view. Contact is there, Kiko clear contact.

"Not sure how they haven't seen it but I think in the first half we didn’t adapt to their press, a little bit slow, lacked a bit of energy, lost a lot of duals, second half we were much lot better but didn't create enough clinical chances.

"Two points where we potentially go 2-0 up with a potential penalty so it's quite frustrating.

"I want to get an explanation of some of the other calls as well, one in transition we get taken out and its nothing, then we go to play on and have to move the ball back one metre. Felt it was quite inconsistent, even Tottenham can feel a little bit hard done by in some challenges. It just needs to improve."

  5. 'One of Naz's best performances'published at 14:33 BST 5 October

    Tottenham 1-0 Brighton

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Martin Ho, speaking to Sky Sports: "First half we were really good pressure wise, defensively, and with the ball - very good. We could have had a few more [goals] in the first half. Second half we had moments were we defended really well, resiliently. They had some moments as good teams do but we denied them some big chances and thought we deserved the win.

"In large moments yes, we saw some tired legs in the last 10 to 15 minutes and we opened up too much and it got too easy for them. But I couldn't have asked anymore of the players, they took blocks, they took hits and ground out a result."

On Jess Naz: "I thought it was one of Jess' best performances, very direct in her one v ones, positive in terms of her second phase movement behind the back line and she put a wonderful cross in for [Cathinka] Tandberg to finish. Thought she did really well today."

  6. Foxes and Toffees stop the rotpublished at 14:30 BST 5 October

    FT: Leicester 1-1 Everton

On average Leicester City v Everton produces fewer goals per game than any other in WSL history (3 goals in 4 games – 0.75)

Therefore it is no surprise that the Foxes and the Toffees slogged out another hard fought encounter today on Filbert Way.

There's no doubt both sides wanted to win, but they lacked quality to deliver a knockout blow.

With Leicester having lost three of their last four and Everton winless in their last four, a point apiece seems a good result all round.

  7. 'We deserve this three points'published at 14:27 BST 5 October

FT: London City Lionesses 1-0 Liverpool

    London City Lionesses

London City Lionesses head coach Jocelyn Precheur, speaking to BBC Sport: "I think every game this season, if you want to get the three points, it will be a fight from the first second until the last one. It was the case today.

"We could've taken advantage earlier, in my opinion, especially in the second half, but this wasn't the case and we have to keep pushing, believing in ourself, believing in our strengths. Sometimes unfortunately, you do not get the result for all you have fought on the pitch and a great performance, but fortunately for us today at the end we got this goal and we deserve this three points."

  8. 'We showed the hunger we have for winning'published at 14:23 BST 5 October

FT: London City Lionesses 1-0 Liverpool

    London City Lionesses

London City Lionesses' Player of the Match Jana Fernandez, speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm really pleased. I think the effort we all put in it was worth the win. The second half we did was amazing. We deserved the goal, and through that penalty we got it.

"[I'm] really pleased and satisfied with the win but still a lot of work to do."

On the winning penalty: "I didn't know if it was going in or out. We trust Linu [Elena Linari], she did an amazing penalty. Everybody was going for the rebound, that shows the hunger we have for scoring, for winning, so yeah, really happy and really proud of ourselves."

  9. Lionesses roar at home once againpublished at 14:21 BST 5 October

FT: London City Lionesses 1-0 Liverpool

Each of the last three debuting teams in the WSL have lost their first two home games (Aston Villa, Leicester, Crystal Palace).

However Elena Linari's 89th minute penalty winner means that London City Lionesses have bucked that trend.

The victory takes manager Jocelyn Precheur's strong home record in charge of the Lionesses to eight wins, two draws and just two defeat from 12 games.

  10. 'I felt like it was coming'published at 14:17 BST 5 October

    West Ham 0-2 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa's goalscorer Lynn Wilms, speaking to the WSL: "Not a bad day. Not the best game but I feel very happy with the goal. I had a couple of good free-kicks so I am happy one went in. Three points is the most important thing.

"I felt like it was coming. I have been practising a lot.

"It was a bit difficult with the wind and the pitch. I heard it's always hard to play here at West Ham. At the end of the day we fought and we won and three points is important to us."

  11. How things stand in the WSLpublished at 14:13 BST 5 October

Yep, things are not looking good for Liverpool or West Ham.

At the other end of the table, Chelsea are top of the tree but they have Manchester City and Tottenham hot on their heels.

Arsenal's title charge seems to be fizzling out already, though, as they sit five points behind the six-time defending champions.

  12. Worrying times for Liverpoolpublished at 14:08 BST 5 October

FT: London City Lionesses 1-0 Liverpool

It's a fourth defeat from four games for Gareth Taylor and Liverpool.

While some may say they were hard done to with the penalty award for Rafaela Borggrafe's foul on Nikita Parris, they offered very little in the way of attacking threat this afternoon.

    Worrying times for the Reds.

  13. 'We've got balance'published at 14:04 BST 5 October

    Tottenham 1-0 Brighton

    Tottenham Hotspur

Jessica Naz, speaking to the WSL: "We put in a big shift. First half we played really well, created chances. Happy Cathinka Tandberg could get on end of my cross.

"We started [the season] really well, we're playing really good football and just being able to get result is the main thing. Last season we played well but couldn't get results. We've got the balance."

  14. 'London City get over the line'published at 14:01 BST 5 October

FT: London City Lionesses 1-0 Liverpool

    Rachel Corsie
Former Scotland captain on Sky Sports

Second half I thought they brought a much better intensity about their play, had opportunities, and probably should've scored before they did. But in the end they got over the line.

A huge result for London City Lionesses as their second half dominance results in a first home win of the season thanks to Elena Linari's spot kick.

It's also a first ever clean sheet in the top flight for Jocelyn Precheur's side who move up to seventh spot.

Meanwhile Liverpool remain second bottom, pointless from four games.
