A historic night for Birmingham City but they can't put their sights on the Championship just yet.

They may have won promotion but they have a rematch with Peterborough on Sunday to knuckle down for and it could give them their first silverware of the season as they contest the EFL Vertu Trophy final.

That's if Wrexham don't gift them the League Two title by failing to win on Saturday...

As always, we will be there at the weekend to take you through the Dragons' battle to keep Birmingham waiting for the title when their match against Wigan Athletic kicks-off at 12:30 BST.

And we'll have live text coverage of Blues v Peterborough at Wembley on Sunday.

    See you soon!

Runaway League One leaders Birmingham City sealed promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt with six games to spare thanks to victory at Peterborough.

Posh's Kwame Poku put the party on hold when he equalised three minutes after Alfie May had put the visitors ahead.

But Taylor Gardner-Hickman restored Blues' lead eight minutes before the interval with what turned out to be the winner.

Big-spending City, relegated last season, are 14 points clear of second-placed Wrexham and now cannot be caught by third-placed Wycombe, despite the Chairboys' win at Huddersfield.

    FT: Peterborough 1-2 Birmingham

Promotion is just the first check box on Birmingham's checklist.

On Sunday, they will meet Peterborough again at Wembley in a bid to lift the EFL Vertu Trophy while they could pick up the League One title as soon as Saturday if Wrexham falter to Wigan Athletic.

The Red Dragons have just five games left to play and must win all of them PLUS rely on Birmingham losing all of their remaining six games to take the title.

More from Birmingham City manager Chris Davies:

"I thought we maintained a good level throughout the game, I thought the subs that came on kept us at that good level and I thought we finished it well.

"I have had a lot of ups and downs in football - to come to a club like this and do this is obviously the pinnacle of my career so far."

"A special night - obviously it means the world to see the fans celebrate, it really is something special.

"I have said previously how the club has suffered a lot, particularly in the last couple of years. It is about creating memories, bringing them some joy and making them proud of their club and I think that we have done that this season, so for me it means the world."

While Birmingham City revel in their promotion joy, we can take a look at something else they may be able to enjoy soon - the title.

The victory at London Road puts Blues a whopping 14 points clear at the top and could see them claim the trophy very soon should Wrexham be unable to beat Wigan on Saturday.

It's an outcome Wycombe will also be hoping for, having got themselves back into striking distance of the last automatic promotion spot remaining with a win against Huddersfield.

Elsewhere, despite so much off-field turmoil, Reading have risen into a play-off spot at the expense of Shrewsbury Town, who are looking down the barrel at relegation.

They are now 13 points away from safety but at this point, it must be feeling like 130.

Alfie May will probably typify what it is like to be the perfect team-mate.

He has been available for pretty much all of the games as well.

He does epitomise what you want in a team, doing what we want as a team, not the I.
