The points were shared in a dour lunchtime encounter at the LNER Stadium as Lincoln drew with Wigan.

Chances were at a premium, with Latics midfielder Thelo Aasgaard going closest with a second-half header that hit a post.

Jordan Hugill flashed an early shot wide for the visitors, before Aasgaard drove a free-kick straight at Zach Jeacock, making his first league start for the Imps.

Tendayi Darikwa got forward for the Imps, but hit a tame shot at Sam Tickle, in what proved to be Lincoln’s only effort on goal in the first half.

Latics loanee Dion Rankine then showed great trickery in the City box, beating three players before having his powerful shot blocked.

Tickle had to be alert just after the break to flick away an Adam Jackson header with Bailey Cadamarteri ready to pounce.

Imps sub Jack Moylan drove into the box, firing a low shot at Tickle and then Wigan had the game’s best chance after 73 minutes when Aasgard met Silko Thomas’ cross, with his header hitting the base of a post and bouncing to safety.

The lively Moylan tested Tickle from range, before the Irishman again created a chance in added-on time that the Athletic keeper was equal to.
