  16. That infamous McGinn tweet...published at 13:24 British Summer Time 12 June

    John McGinnImage source, PA Media

Jamie: Tom English, sorry to say this but many years ago you were quoted as saying John McGinn wasn't good enough to break into the then current Celtic team. Please redress this and come out and say you made the biggest nonsense statement regarding this individual. He is the best midfielder Scotland has seen in the last 40 years!

The tweet in questionImage source, X

Tom English: Well, Jamie, you're revisiting a tweet from almost six years ago, so I think that's funny to begin with. What I said was that he'd struggle to get into that Celtic midfield, which I believe was true at the time.

Celtic had Scott Brown, Callum McGregor, Tom Rogic, Olivier Ntcham (who was tearing it up), Stuart Armstrong, Scott Sinclair and James Forrest. They'd just won a treble. McGregor and Ntcham both scored in the Scottish Cup final.

McGinn was superb, himself. And would definitely have made his way into the team over time, maybe a short space of time. They should have signed him. Villa got him for £2m, which was a steal. I think it's amusing when people look back on a tweet from six years ago. McGinn is one of the best midfield players in Britain now. My tweet was of its time.

  17. 'Clarke has given us special moments'published at 13:20 British Summer Time 12 June

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on Football Daily podcast

Scotland had a phenomenal start to the campaign, it was stunning. The win against Spain, the game in Norway, to this day, is one of the greatest moments.

What Steve Clarke has given is some fabulously special moments. but we're realists in Scotland as well.

We've been through enough over the years to understand that if we do get carried away, 1978 is there to remind us.

  18. 'I'd be in a deep coma'published at 13:15 British Summer Time 12 June

Graeme: Scotland's football and rugby teams are both in the World Cup final. Same night, same time. Who you watching?

Tom English: Neither, Graeme. I'd be in the hospital in a deep coma if that ever happened. The whole night would pass me by. I'd wake up six months later to discover that Scotland are world football and rugby champions.

  20. McTominay up top?published at 13:08 British Summer Time 12 June

I'm not saying this is going to happen, definitely not, but I wouldn't be averse to seeing Scott McTominay at some stage up alongside Che Adams.

Adams will probably be the striker to start and McTominay will probably be in close attendance to him, trying to get goals for us.

If anything happens, Scott McTominay playing 10-15 minutes up there as a striker - he's been a massive player for Man United this season.

We've got the same problem we had back in my day - we don't score enough goals - but I do think this side can do it.
