  1. 'Scotland can really shock people'published at 12:01 British Summer Time 12 June

    James McFadden
Former Scotland international on Football Daily podcast

When it comes to competitive games, I believe this squad will have total belief they can win games and get out of the group.

I still believe we can go and really shock people, get the results we need and get out of the group. Then who knows.

I think the players, the manager, the staff, the people that matter believe Scotland can go and get results. I think the fans will quickly see that when the games kick off.

  2. Porteous or McKenna?published at 11:56 British Summer Time 12 June

Okay, okay, so looking at the Grant Hanley vote, it seems the majority of you don't want him to start.

If it isn't Hanley, then who? Assuming it's a back three Steve Clarke sticks with, it feels like Ryan Porteous or Scott McKenna are the most likely options if Hanley doesn't play.

So thumbs up for Porto, or thumbs down for McKenna.

  3. BBC pundits predict Scotland's Eurospublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 12 June

Pat Nevin: The Germans will be favourites to win the group, but there are real hopes Scotland could get second place - and remember third place might be enough as well.

Leanne Crichton: It’s sad that we go into the tournament with a bit of a depleted squad but I’m hopeful Scotland get out the group, I think this could be the year it happens.

Thomas Hitzlsperger: Of course they want to upset Germany in their first match, but that is not the most important game for them in terms of their route out of the group... it is the Swiss and Hungary they will have to beat.

Alan Shearer: That's a tough group for them. They haven't had a great run leading up to the Euros, but you never know what could happen if they can get a bit of momentum.

Wayne Rooney: They will have great support behind them and their fans will be there in their numbers, but I do think it will be difficult for Scotland to get out of their group.

Micah Richards: Scotland will reach the last 16 but after that they are done.

Incidentally, Pat Nevin, and a host of other BBC pundits, have made their Euro 2024 predictions.

You can read them all here. But we only care about the Scotland ones, right?

A few of them from big names are on the way...

  5. 'Hopefully McGregor & Gilmour start'published at 11:47 British Summer Time 12 June

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on Football Daily Podcast

I wonder about that central midfield position. I've got a great hope it's going to be Callum McGregor and Billy Gilmour.

I think when you're playing at this level and this technical type of football you're going to play, you do need people that can keep the ball.

And we've not got anybody better than those two at that.

  6. Should Hanley play on Friday?published at 11:43 British Summer Time 12 June

What do you think? Should Grant Hanley start against Germany? Hit thumbs up if he should, thumbs down if not.

It's going to be Kieran Tierney, Jack Hendry and one other, right?

Perhaps the centre-back dilemma is something you want to ask Tom English about...

  7. 'Is Hanley fit to start?'published at 11:39 British Summer Time 12 June

A lot of focus has been on the striker, but actually Scott McTominay and John McGinn are our goal threats, they're the two guys that provide that threat and that outlet. They score big goals in big moments.

The big decision for me is whether Grant Hanley's fit. He didn't look 100% against Finland, he got caught out a few times. That is a big call, especially against a team like Germany where you're going to have to be at your best.

It’s a feat not achieved by many. Only 37 before, in fact.

But as Scotland step out on the big stage in Munich, bringing the curtain up on Euro 2024, one man will be hoping to join an illustrious club of players to represent Scotland on 50 occasions.

Inverness-raised Ryan Christie will - if selected by Steve Clarke - become the first from the Highland capital to walk out in the navy blue of the men’s national side on so many occasions.

With his roots forged at his hometown club Inverness Caledonian Thistle, his dad, Charlie, a former player and manager of the club, has spoken to BBC Sport about his son’s pending achievement.

"It’s something that I never, ever foresaw or predicted, but its tremendous," Christie Snr said.

"I don’t give out plaudits easily - I’m sure Ryan will back me up on that - but I’ll be brimming with pride, as many parents will be.

"It’s quite surreal to be honest. Ryan is like the pinnacle of where you can get to.

"He is playing in the English Premier League and we say to our kids, if you reach for the stars, you never know where it could take you."

"He got us to the Euros."

    "Leader. Amazing player. Amazing person."

Just the seven games for Stuart, then.

Not bad, eh? Or is he just being extremely optimisic and assuming Scotland will play seven games?

That'd mean they'd win the thing, right?

Three group games, round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and final. Aye, seven.

Ha, I now really hope that's what he was meaning.

Scotland fans are getting ready for the big match against the hosts on Friday night.

One of them is Stuart Kenny from Edinburgh. He is married to Isabelle, a German who works as an NHS doctor.

Sadly, Isabelle couldn’t make the trip, but Stuart is going to seven games across the Euros - including Friday’s opener - with his in-laws.

He said: "I can’t remember being as excited for anything other than my own wedding, to be honest.

"I’m going to the match with my wife’s dad, mein Schwiegervater (my father-in-law), who is patiently listening to me regale tales of Lawrence Shankland's goals from the past season.

"I honestly believe that anything could happen on the pitch. It’s everything you want from an opener."

  15. 'Clarke has decisions to make'published at 11:13 British Summer Time 12 June

    Tom English
BBC Scotland's chief sports writer on Scottish Football Podcast

Steve Clarke does have decisions to make. The Germans have no decisions to make. They practically named their team already.

Julian Nagelsmann has tinkered madly over the last six or seven games and guys who were playing a couple of games, two or three games ago, are not even in the squad now.

Joshua Kimmich was playing in midfield three or four games ago. He's now back to full-back. So they know what their starting line-up is. Steve Clarke, obviously, as he says, he's got a couple of decisions left to make.

  16. Postpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 12 June

    Yes, Steven. Say it again.

That's someone who's following Steve Clarke's 'no negative Normans' policy.

Be like Steven, don't be a Norman.

More than 150,000 Scotland fans are estimated to be on their way to Munich, and the first signs of the tartan invasion are starting to show.

Campingplatz München Thalkirchen, a site near the city centre, is offering some of the cheapest accommodation in town.

Manager Coco Howard, who is expecting about 500 Scotland fans to arrive by Thursday evening, says she’s a mixture of "excited and scared" - but is reassured by the Tartan Army’s reputation for relatively good behaviour.

Among the first arrivals are two fathers and sons from Beith, North Ayrshire. Scott McNee, who has travelled via Amsterdam with his son Kit, says the German hosts have "no idea what’s coming - it’ll be awash with kilts".

Steven Boyce, who has come with his son Lewis, has been to several major tournaments but is happy he and his son are “eventually” getting to see the men’s side at a major tournament overseas.

"The pressure is all on them," says Steven of the tournament opener against Germany. "I wouldn’t be surprised if we could nick a point."

I don't have any inside knowledge, but I reckon you can you make an educated guess at what those two positions are.

The decision on whether to start Scott McTominay or not surely has to be one. Does the other come at centre-back with Grant Hanley still looking a bit rusty?

People might say there is a call to be made at right-wing back as well, or in the striking position.

Perhaps Tom English could answer one of those questions for you. Remember, you can click right here, external to ask him today.

Will Lewis Morgan be in Steve Clarke's thoughts for a starting place on Friday?

Hmm, feels unlikely. He did look bright off the bench in the friendly draw against Finland, though.

Clarke says there are two places he's still mulling over for the Germany game. Let's hear what he told Eilidh Barbour yesterday...
