But the Dons hit back almost immediately when Eva Thomson found the back of the net from Bayley Hutchison's pass.
The draw means United leapfrog Hamilton Accies - after their defeat to Motherwell - and move into the relegation play-off spot with one game to go.
Aberdeen are now two points adrift of Motherwell in the battle to finish top of the bottom six.
