Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca told TNT Sports: "Good performance. It was a tough game and we approached it well very. It's a shame the second goal we conceded, we can avoid that.

"Every game is complicated. We have many things we can do better - attack better, defend better.

"The ones who play tonight it doesn't mean they won't play the next game.

"I know Kiernan very well. I know when you are the main player and then move to a big club it's not easy becuase you're not the main player. Sometimes you struggle a bit at the beginning so I was very happy for him."

Praise 'Big Harry', Bruno on the end of more shameful refereeing especially his first yellow. Let’s hope that this injustice that the team has been facing can be used to fuel the fire! First and foremost though learn to defend competently.

    Ricky

I'm sorry but Porto should be ashamed of themselves. Utterly dominant in every area even when they they were 2-0 down, and they throw it away by not doing the basics. They just dropped points to the most out of form team in Europe, embarrassing.

"He [Ten Hag] is experienced enough. He has learnt how to deal with it."

    Samu Omorodion is a player.

You can see the problems he caused the Manchester United defence. He put himself in-between Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez and he was hard to mark.

No disrespect to Porto and the Portuguese League, but there will be a lot of admiring eyes across Europe watching him.

Manchester United fell apart. At 2-2, we were massively fearing for Manchester United.

Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt were really really poor tonight and Casemiro as well.

Don’t think Maguire's equaliser changes anything. Ten Hag should be put out of his misery. It’s become a psychodrama. Same thing in CL last season throwing leads away. Either a) Ten Hag is a hopeless coach or b) players are idiots who can’t follow instructions or c) players are playing for a different manager. Don’t know which but it’s become a soap opera and predictably unpredictable.

  9. Chelsea are absolute goliaths of the Conference Leaguepublished at 22:15 British Summer Time 3 October

    FT: Chelsea 4-2 Gent

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport football news reporter

As much as Chelsea and Maresca can be proud that their second 11 looked like a well-oiled group of stars capable of playing in the Premier League, this match at times felt uncompetitive.

Mykhailo Mudryk, Pedro Neto, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Christopher Nkunku and Tosin Adarabioyo were among the stars rotated in from the depths of a sizeable 29-man squad, while Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia and Wesley Fofana haven't been selected for this competition - being allowed to rest every Thursday - while Ben Chilwell is simply out of favour.

Even still, Maresca opted not to pick either Nicolas Jackson or Jadon Sancho and gave them the night off.

Those selections could have encouraged Gent, but try as they might they could only score two goals against the run of play through Watanabe and Gandelman.

But Chelsea's £400m team could have scored more against Gent, whose most expensive ever £6m signing Momodou Sonko was on the bench.

This isn't Chelsea's problem but it highlights a broader disparity emerging between Europe's biggest teams and those outside of the big five leagues.

Chelsea goalscorer Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall told TNT Sports: "I'm over the moon. I've been waiting for that moment since joining the club, to show everyone what my qualities are.

"Scoring the goal is an amazing feeling. I won't forget this night.

"I pride myself on working as hard as I can every day. I'd like to play more but it's my duty to make sure the manager has a decision to make. I feel fresh.

"I've loved it. You come through the door and expectations are through the roof. The standards are so high. It's so nice to play with players on your wavelength - top, top players.

"It's about learning and evolving. That's literally what I'm here for.

"He [Enzo Maresca] is a breath of fresh air. I was taken aback by him last year. Everything he did was passionate and motivated. You can see the lads are buying into it."

    Owen Hargreaves
Former Manchester United midfielder on TNT Sports

There was a lot going on. There were so many holes defensively.

Manchester United didn't stop any crosses, and then to go 3-2 down after being 2-0 up was ridiculous.

The middle part of the game was crazy. That's what it's been like for a couple of years.

And THAT is why Maguire was a much better captain than Bruno will ever be!

    Jonny

Ten Hag saved by the man he stripped the captaincy from and has tried to sell for 2 years!

I think Maguire has just kept Ten Hag in a job. Another questionable performance from Manchester United.
