  2. Sutton backs Hungary to down Scotspublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 23 June

    Chris Sutton
    BBC Sport pundit

Hungary have lost both their games so far but they will still feel they have an outside chance of going through if they win.

Scotland were much better against Switzerland, and goalkeeper Angus Gunn played really well, but I am still worried about their defence.

I am hoping that Scotland get a result, but I actually think that Hungary will beat them.

Sorry, Scotland, because I really want you to win. You’ve had the best fans at the tournament but I just think you lack quality in certain areas.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-2

  3. 'Why I wanted McTominay' - Moyes on Scotland's 'biggest threat'published at 16:30 British Summer Time 23 June

    David Moyes graphic

Lots of managers have hard luck stories about players that get away and Scott McTominay is one of those for me because I tried to sign him for West Ham last summer.

It was always going to be hard to replace Declan Rice with any one player when he joined Arsenal, and we were not planning to do that - we wanted to bring in a couple of midfielders instead.

We bought two really good players in James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez, so that was the cover, but Scott was certainly one of the players we had a big interest in as well.

He is a good all-round midfielder, but to me his best attributes are arriving in the area, or the edges of it, at the right time to score or make some chances.

McTominay was a player who I felt I needed at the time, but we didn’t quite get it over the line and he went on to score a lot of big goals for Manchester United last season instead.

  7. 'No doubt there's more to come from Scotland'published at 16:01 British Summer Time 23 June

    James McFadden
Former Scotland international on BBC Radio 5 Live

We know Scotland are a good side but they need to be at their best to get results. If they do that, they'll give themselves a chance.

The performance against Switzerland was much better but I still think there's more to come from this team tonight, I've got not doubt about it.

I just wonder if Steve Clarke maybe fancies trying going back to a back four [with Kieran Tierney out].

But if he sticks with the same formation, the goals will come from who they've come from, John McGinn or Scott McTominay.

I'd love to see Che Adams get a goal, he worked tirelessly the other night.

  8. Clarke on mentality & striking right balancepublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 23 June

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke speaking to BBC Sport: "So far the message [to the players] has been recover and relax. Hopefully it's a similar performance [to Wednesday] with a better result.

"We enjoyed that game, we've taken a lot from the game and we'll try to build on that. We think we'll have to play a bit better to get the win and that's what we've been working on.

On team selection: "Every team I pick is difficult to pick. It's up to me to get the balance right. It's just to make sure we approach the game in the right way."

On learning from Croatia defeat at Euro 2020: "The biggest thing is the mentality of the players. They understand what's in front of them. They have to take that to the pitch."

Well, that rumour about Che Adams has certainly thrown a cat amongst the pigeons.

Thumbs up if you want Che Adams to recover from this mystery affliction and start.

Thumbs down if you'd rather Lawrence Shankland was in the XI.

And if you want Tommy Conway in from the off, I don't know what to tell you.

  13. McGinn wants Scotland to 'prove people wrong'published at 15:30 British Summer Time 23 June

    Scott Mullen
    BBC Scotland in Germany

Scotland have the mentality and capability "to prove people wrong" by making history and staying in Euro 2024, promises midfielder John McGinn.

A win for Steve Clarke's side against Hungary in Stuttgart on Sunday should be enough for progression out of Group A.

Critics did not give the injury-ravaged Scots much of a hope after their 5-1 opening thrashing by Germany in Munich, but a 1-1 draw with the Swiss has placed them within reach of qualification.

"We've obviously had a lot of injuries along the way - but us Scots are best at enduring adversity," said McGinn. "Hopefully we can prove a lot of people wrong.

En route to the Stuttgart Arena and we've spied some Scotland fans milling around already.

A few I've spoken to seem to be confident (not sure if I like that or not?!) about tonight. Fingers cross their confidence is not misplaced.

I also had a quick word with (name drop) Sir Alex Ferguson before I left the hotel, and he told me he's glad Scotland need a win as he feels we perform better when something is at stake!

  15. 'Rumours Adams might not be fit', says Gunn's dadpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 23 June

Has ex-Scotland goalkeeper Bryan Gunn, father of current number one Angus, just leaked some team news for this evening?

On the latest Scotland HQ, external, he says he has heard chat Che Adams could be out for tonight, with Lawrence Shankland potentially starting in his place.

"The rumours are Adams might not be fit," the former Norwich keeper says. "Shankland might start up front. We'll have to see on that one."

Given he is literally the father of the current Scotland goalkeeper, where is he hearing those "rumours" from?

    Hmmm.

  16. 'The biggest game I can remember as a Scotland fan'published at 15:13 British Summer Time 23 June

BBC broadcaster and Scotland fan Gordon Smart has loved his time in Germany so far: "It's lived up to everything I thought it would. It's been amazing with the Tartan Army.

"The march to the stadium in Cologne with the pipers will live with me for the rest of my days. The people in Germany have been so welcoming, it's been a joy.

"This is probably the biggest game I can remember as a Scotland fan. The thought of Monday morning and the scramble for transport and time off work, that's such an exciting notion.

"The likes of Souness and Dalglish never had the chance to go through to the knockouts, so it's a huge achievement if they do it."

  17. 'The boys are confident' - Dykes lifts lid on camp moralepublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 23 June

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Injured Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes on BBC's Sunday Breakfast: "They definitely can do it. The reaction was really good to see [on Wednesday]. The boys turned up, played very well. Hopefully they get the result [tonight].

"It's always a tough role up there. Sometimes you don't get a lot of chances. But it's a team effort, we all stick together and that's how we win games.

"The players feel really good. There are smiles on the faces, the boys are confident. The second game they showed they were back to their best. Everyone will just be buzzing to get out there."

On missing the tournament through injury, Dykes adds: "It was really tough at the start, I had been waiting on this all season. It was devastating. But I decided to come out with the boys to have a bit of fun with them. Once the game gets going, I'm just a fan."

  18. What if Scotland draw..?published at 14:59 British Summer Time 23 June

Mathematically, Scotland do not need to win tonight. A draw would move them to two points which might - big might - be enough to progress as one of the best third-placed teams.

However, two points wasn't enough in Euro 2016 or 2020.

After Georgia's draw with the Czechs, should any two of these three things happen, a point would be enough for Steve Clarke's men to make history:

    • Spain and Italy both win their final games in Group B - against Albania and Croatia respectively - on Monday.
    • Denmark overcome Serbia and England beat Slovenia by four goals in Group C on Tuesday.
    • Portugal and Turkey earn victories in Group F on Wednesday over Georgia and Czech Republic respectively.

    Got it? Good.

  19. What if Scotland win?published at 14:52 British Summer Time 23 June

A win tonight secures Scotland either second or third - most likely third - and potentially a place in the last-16.

To finish second would require a German victory over Switzerland, and one hell of a goal swing. The Swiss currently have a goal difference of +2 while ours is -4.

If a six-goal swing happens and the goal difference finishes level (eg - both teams have scored four goals and conceded six) then lower disciplinary points would decide second, which is currently... Switzerland.

We'd take a scrappy 1-0 though, getting Scotland to four points - which is usually enough to be one of the best third-placed teams. However, we'd still need to keep a wee eye out just in case.
