Liverpool manager Arne Slot said that "the next very good player" will step up to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Although the Reds have a few players who can play in that position, Conor Bradley is a specialist right-back and the 21-year-old Northern Ireland international is set to be handed the baton.

On Bradley, Slot added: "I think we all see the potential. Last week I walked onto the pitch [at Stamford Bridge] with him and I looked around because for me it was the first time [there] and I was very surprised to hear from him a comment about the stadium as well.

"That was a bit of a surprise because, for me, he's already further in his development than being for the first time in an away game like Chelsea.

"Unfortunately, [he] hasn't been fit throughout the whole season and to become a very good player you have to be available every single week as well, and that's the first step he has to make for next season.

"But we have a lot of confidence in Conor as a very good full-back for Liverpool, and that's already what he's shown in the past two seasons."

  4. Reds team news - Bradley to start against Gunnerspublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 9 May

Liverpool v Arsenal (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot made six changes to his starting line-up for last Sunday's defeat at Chelsea and the Dutch coach said he will have "the same thought process" when selecting his side to face Arsenal but there could be some tweaks as "losing a game of football" has consequences.

One of the changes for this Sunday will be Conor Bradley coming in as Slot has confirmed that he will start against Arsenal because "he needs playing time to be better prepared for next season".

This month, Trent Alexander-Arnold said he will leave Liverpool on a free transfer when his contract runs out on 30 June, 2025 and will not be extending his deal like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have both done.

The England right-back has been expected to join Real Madrid for a while and the Spanish club have now approached Liverpool to sign him before his contract ends so he can play at the Fifa Club World Cup, which starts on 14 June in the United States.

The Reds host Arsenal on Sunday and we should also find out what Slot made of comments from Gunners boss Mikel Arteta earlier this week.

Arteta said Liverpool had "won the title with less points than we have in the last two seasons".

Liverpool were confirmed as this season's Premier League champions with 82 points after 34 games, with Arsenal having 77 points after the same amount of games last season and 78 at the same stage of the prior campaign.

Arsenal finished last season with 89 points and 84 at the end of 2022-23.

  6. 'I'm not here to tell the fans how they should react' - Slot on Alexander-Arnold exitpublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 9 May

Liverpool v Arsenal (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot spoke to the media this morning. On Trent Alexander-Arnold's pending departure he said: "Like everyone who likes Liverpool and is a fan of us, we're disappointed because a good human is leaving but also a very good full-back.

"The experience I have - and this club as well - if a very good player leaves, the next very good player will step up, and that's probably what's going to happen now again."

On the negative reaction to the news, Slot added: "Probably it's a bit more for him now than he's used to and maybe a bit more negative than he's used to. But I don't follow all of this. I'm not here to tell the fans how they should react.

"I think we are all disappointed but Trent is the first one also who said that he would prefer us, as a team and as a club, not to be too much distracted by this announcement. "So, I'm hoping that all the energy on Sunday goes to the players and to the support of our fans, and as less as possible to Trent – unless it's positive, then they can do whatever they want."

  14. What's at stake this weekend?published at 12:36 British Summer Time 9 May

When it comes to the race for European places, so much!

Manchester City, Newcastle, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest could all end the weekend either inside or outside of the Premier League's top five.*

And, if Manchester City win the FA Cup, eighth will be good enough for a spot in the Conference League next season.

Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton and Fulham could all be top eight clubs by Sunday night.

*for Manchester City to drop to sixth they'd have to lose to Southampton by four goals, Chelsea and Newcastle must draw with each other, and Forest have to beat rivals Leicester by eight.
