I was just about to crown Richard the winner due to his sheer belief in booking that hotel back in October but he may have been pipped right at the last...

    (Seriously though Richard, fair play)

I booked a flight from Charlotte, North Carolina to Madrid and a hotel in Bilbao back in October. I’ve nearly cancelled it every week since given the league form…but I kept believing. Now I just need to get to Bilbao from Madrid and find a ticket!

UEFA care less about fans each year - 13 days between the semi and the final is ridiculous. So you have to be creative (flying from Manchester via Madrid) and take the risk of booking before qualification is certain. As for accommodation, well Bilbao is the size of Leicester (though a lot nicer) so can't cope with 60,000 travellers needing a bed.

    Simon, Sheffield

I'm not planning on going to the final. I'm saving my money for WC26 instead. Insane travel and hotel prices, plus only 14k tickets per club, ruins it for many.

A nice train journey I took last summer is via Paris, Hendaye in South West France, and then a local train to Bilbao changing at San Sebastian.

I’ll be flying from Taiwan to London, London to Carcassonne, meeting my dad there and driving over to Bilbao. Ticketless, probably very jet-lagged, but incredibly excited.

Travel expert Simon Calder is a frequent visitor to Bilbao - and typically pays £150-£200 for a return journey from London.

He told BBC Sport: "There are many other ways to reach Bilbao. In particular, Biarritz in France is well placed for fans who want to see something of the Basque region en route to Bilbao.

"There is a routing via Basel in Switzerland. From Biarritz airport you can walk to the city's rail station in about 20 minutes, and board a train to the border town of Hendaye. From here a narrow-gauge railway runs to San Sebastian, from where there is another narrow-gauge train.

"Supporters who want to travel by train should be able to cover the ground for about £200 one way.

"From London St Pancras International on 20 May, the cheapest morning Eurostar train to Paris Nord is £110. After crossing the city to Paris Montparnasse, the lunchtime train to the Hendaye costs £75. From here, it's those little trains once again.

"The most sedate way to reach Bilbao is the Brittany Ferries sailing from Portsmouth to Bilbao on Sunday, 18 May at 10pm. You get two nights on board for a one-way fare of £201. But no cabins are available, so it could be a long, sleepless voyage."

    Bodo/Glimt 0-2 Tottenham (agg 1-5)

    Nick Mashiter
BBC Sport football news reporter in Bodo

Dominic Solanke revealed the Tottenham squad's delight for under-fire boss Ange Postecoglou after Spurs reached the Europa League final.

The striker scored the opener in Spurs' 2-0 win at Bodo/Glimt on Thursday as Postecoglou's side eased into the final with a 5-1 aggregate semi-final victory.

Postecoglou has been under increasing pressure with Tottenham 16th in the Premier League, having lost 19 of their 35 top flight games this season.

But they have reached the final in Bilbao - where they will face Manchester United - to take some of the heat off Postecoglou.

"We're delighted, he's kept us on track and has got us to where we are," said Solanke.

"Pressure is a privilege, I came to the club in the summer, a big club and big boots to fill.

"In the league, the team could have done better, maybe I could have done better. But in a European tournament we are so close to winning a trophy which the club has wanted for years. There have been some tough games recently but we've all played our part here."

For administrative reasons, Uefa decided when the Europa League knockout draw was made that the winners of semi-final 1 would be the nominal 'home' team for the final.

Tottenham were on that side of the draw so having overcome Bodo/Glimt in the semis, they will be the 'home' team in Bilbao.

All season Athletic Bilbao were hoping to play the final in their own San Mames stadium. However, even if the Spanish side had managed to get past Manchester United in semi-final 2, they would not have been deemed the 'home' team.

In response to Jamie's message at 10:54am...

Bruno has played in the last three games against Spurs and they have lost each time by an aggregate of 7-3. They have players to keep him quiet. I predict Spurs will be too aggressive for United and will win for a fourth time.
