  2. 'When Bronze speaks you listen'published at 15:57 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on Lucy Bronze setting record for most appearances by an England player at a major tournament:

"She's amazing - she's a legend and someone who everyone in the team looks up to. It's not a surprise she will set that record. She is an absolute beast.

"She's the oldest player in the squad and has just played two back-to-back 120 minutes. All the players look up to her. She's someone who you listen to when she talks and when she steps out on the pitch she has your back. If you make a mistake she will probably win the ball back for you. She's unbelievable - another great tournament for us.

"For a lot of people making one appearance at a major tournament is an achievement but she'll be pushing even more."

  3. 'Wiegman says we've aged her'published at 15:53 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on Sarina Wiegman: "I think we've almost killed her twice this tournament, she’s said we have aged her!

"Five consecutive finals for her, that’s just unbelievable. We know we are in good hands.

"She’s done a few good speeches this tournament, I’ll give her that. We’ve been talking about that.

"When we go out on the pitch we fight for each other but also her, the staff and the fans watching."

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on Sarina Wiegman speeches:

"We had a good one before the Italy game in the meeting the night before - that one stood out. Half-time is tactics and what we can do to improve but Sarina's speeches have got us motivated. You still remember what she says even if you go a goal down.

"She has been pulling them out of the bag. No matter what she says you listen because she has been to five major finals now.

"Not emotional, just motivational. She wants to get you up and ready for the game - to be together and fight for each other."

  5. 'I love having a laugh'published at 15:48 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on her role as joker in the squad: "Since we lost Jill [Scott] someone had to step up, and I think it fell a bit on my shoulders.

"I love having a laugh, I love having a bit of banter with people and getting them involved, I'm at my best when I make people laugh.

"That's why I'm best mates with Alessia [Russo] because no matter what I say it makes her laugh, so that makes me feel better.

"I try not to take everything too seriously. But when I step on the pitch I'm serious, but when I'm off it I want to have a laught and a joke.

"When you're away for so long you've got to create memories off the pitch too, I love being around the girls, playing cards and bits and bobs."

  6. 'We've been singing Heather Smalls'published at 15:46 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on the songs that have got the Lionesses through the tournament:

"We've been singing Heather Smalls - Proud. Me and Esme [Morgan] really belt that one out before the game.

"There's quite a few songs but that one sticks out. The words are really fitting too. It suits my vocals!"

Absolute banger, that. Petition for the BBC team to get that on the montage should England get the win on Sunday.

  7. 'She might get papped eating a pasty'published at 15:44 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on how 19-year-old team-mate Michelle Agyemang will cope with her newfound fame: "She might get papped eating a pasty like I did. I’ll have to warn her about that.

"Michelle.. It’s mad. I’d think she is 30 years old, she’s so mature and humble. She's come into the tournament with freedom, without a worry or care. She's just gone out and done what’s asked of her. She's been amazing for us, turned up in big moments when we needed her.

"She's got a lot of talent, she can do things not many players can do. Even when she’s scored and kept us in games, she’s been the same Michelle that started the tournament.

"I’m buzzing for her. It’s nice for good people to get what they deserve. She’s in the bubble now, but when we goes home she’ll definitely get recognised more."

  8. Postpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on brand deals that come with playing for England: "Little Ella definitely didn't think of things like that. She just wanted to put an England shirt on. You've got to embrace it all. You do things on the pitch and you're rewarded off it by having partnerships with big brands and people you want to work with.

"It's a bit embarrassing though that every time we watch a game my head comes on the screen in the adverts!"

  9. Postpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on incident following Spain's World Cup win: "That was a difficult period for the Spanish players. What they did in the World Cup for that to be the main talking point it was tough Something they shouldn't have had to go through. They should've celebrated what was an amazing tournament for them.

"We both want to win. They have their reasons and we have ours. You don't know what to expect but we have so much respect for them. We have belief in ourselves to put on a performance."

  10. Postpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on the lengthy games so far: "Watching the quarter-final from the bench was the worst I felt like I couldn't do anything to help.

"Playing 120 minutes against Italy I felt better being on the pitch. I spoke to Alessia [Russo] afterwards because she played 120 against Sweden and sat on the bench for a lot of the Italy game and she said it was horrible. I think we'd all prefer to be on the pitch but I would also prefer to win in 90 minutes."

  11. Postpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on dealing with grief after losing her father: "She’s [Sarina Wiegman] been great, but everyone has been great. We always talk about the togetherness in the squad, and these are the moments that pull us together.

"Me and Beth [Mead] come into our first tournament without a parent, it’s going to be difficult but it is the people you have around you that you can lean on and that get you through the days that are tough..

"Even when you’re not going through something like that, being away from home is hard. Some days you get up and can't be yourself, you struggle.

"But it's the people you’ve got around you. We've definitely got that squad. It's nice I’ve got Beth, who is unfortunately going through the same thing so we really understand each other and how we are feeling and what each of us needs.

"Sarina has been amazing, she’s spoken to me throughout the tournament and said if I need anything I can go to her."

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on what it means to play for England: "Pride, every time I get to pull the shirt on it's just pride. Something I dreamed of when I was a little girl. To go to major tournaments representing your country I still pinch myself now, I'm 50-odd caps in and it's still an amazing feeling - just the same as the first time.

"You want to fight for each other and for the fans. I have the sense of freedom and belief. It never changes."

  13. 'Williamson leads by example'published at 15:25 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on playing under captain Leah Williamson: "Leah is great. She's someone who rallies the team up, gets everyone going, gets everyone together.

"Even her performances, the way she plays the game leads by example. You want to play for someone like that, you want your captain to step up in games and she definitely does that and takes us all with her.

"It would be amazing for Leah to lift another trophy for us. She’s a great captain, one you want to play for and work hard for. She’s a great person too."

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on whether there should be a bank holiday if England win: "I'm not looking too far ahead. That would be great for everyone back at home. I've heard the pubs have been open until 1am so that's nice.

"Our focus is just on winning the game."

  15. 'It's a squad game - you need everyone'published at 15:19 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on 'super sub' title being handed to Chloe Kelly and Michelle Agyemang: "It's nice! Nice for anyone to get on the pitch and make a positive impact. In 2022 that was mine and Alessia's [Russo] job to come on and make an impact and this time around our role is different.

"We give 100% in whatever role is asked of us but it's nice for us to do the hard work and the girls to come on and get the goal and see it over the edge. It's a squad game and you need everyone. We've had positive impact off the bench but the girls who have started the game have ran heir socks off.

"We have a really good squad."

  16. 'We want to fight'published at 15:16 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on the Lionesses' mentality: "We’ve spoken about it a lot this camp - the ‘proper English' performance. We want to fight, we want to not stop running.

"You've seen that in games when you might feel like we’re down and out, then someone comes on and we have one moment and we take it. It’s about having players with the belief they can come on and change the game.

"It’s in us all individually that we are competitive and know what it takes to win."

  17. 'We know we're inspiring the next generation'published at 15:13 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone speaking about the legacy of winning Euro 2022 and pressure from home: "We have our own little bubble. When we're on camp we stay in the bubble. We don't know much about what's going on at home. The only pressure we have is the one we put on ourselves. We're all very competitive, it's just the pressure we put on ourselves.

"When we came into the tournament we wanted to make the nation proud and we have done that already. We know that no matter what we do we're always inspiring the next generation of young boys and girls as they start their journey.

"No pressure from our side. We're just preparing as well as we can."

  18. 'We've never given up'published at 15:10 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    England

England midfielder Ella Toone on the drama of the last two games: "It’s mad, I’m not all for the drama, but we've deffo made it dramatic. Sometimes football doesn't happen how you want it to, it would be lovely to win in 90 minutes, but we’ve never given up, we’ve probably given the fans at home heart attacks, but we’ve never given up."

  19. 'We can be so proud'published at 15:07 British Summer Time 25 July

England v Spain (Sun, 17:00 BST)

"I’m really excited, I want to go out on the pitch and give everything for England and the team, hopefully we can put on a good performance."
