  1. What happened with Nuno and Marinakis last season?published at 14:50 British Summer Time

It will go down as one of the most memorable but bizarre scenes in recent football memory.

In May, Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo was shaking hands at full-time with Leicester City midfielder Oliver Skipp after the two sides had played out a 2-2 draw, when Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis intervened.

The Greek businessman, clearly furious at the result, delivered what appeared to be some angry words to his manager. Former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville called Marinakis' actions "scandalous".

Marinakis defended his actions in a post-match statement, claiming the incident was the two showing frustration surrounding the injury to Taiwo Awoniyi.

Nuno himself later also stressed that the Greek owner's actions were down to "confusion" over the use of striker Awoniyi, adding that football is an emotional game.

Not a forest Fan, but Sacking Nuno? Mental. They've taken a criticism regarding transfers way too much to heart. You don't HAVE to like what the manager says, but you're going to have to find a better reason to sack the man who has taken Forest to Europe.

    Harry

Everyone falls out from time to time, especially in a high pressure environment. You just get on with it and move on. The fact Nuno has twice now gone into pre match press conferences and been so negative; I hate to say it, but I think he wants the sack.

This is peak Forest - get ourselves into a prime position then burn it to the ground. Speaks volumes that the mild-mannered Nuno has spoken out. Marinakis is playing with fire here...

That is quite the news conference from Nuno Espirito Santo.

Let's look at each of the quotes he gave about the situation:

Can we not just have one normal week?!

    Tom

Wow, these are arguably some of the most incendiary comments I've seen issued by a football player/manager/club this whole summer. It's a shame, but Marinakis appears to have been to heavy with things in the past, and now it's causing issues. Hope it doesn't affect their season.

    Jon

It would be mad to sack Nuno, but he's not scoring any points here. He's simply fanning the flames. Wasn't even a story yesterday but now he's created one. Who cares if they are close or not? They've held onto MGW and recruited well since.

  5. 'Dealing with doubts are the worst thing in football'published at 14:37 British Summer Time

Nuno Espirito SantoImage source, Getty Images

More from Nuno Espirito Santo's news conference last week, where it became apparent his relationship with Evangelos Marinakis had started to fracture: "The concern is the same. The points we are going to fight for are the same for round one and round 13. The first points are always vital. How we can go game by game on our approach, that we are comfortable, that we have options.

"Dealing with doubts are the worst thing you can have in football. We have doubts, who is going to be, when are they going to come? All these things create doubts. Not only me but in the club.

"What we want is game-by-game to have as many options as possible. Europa [League] will come after and for sure it will be better but for now these games until that happens is a major concern.

"I already told the players exactly what I told publicly. Let's be stronger, let's make an extra effort, help the team. Those who are here are focused and ready to compete. What is the problem is if something happens, that's the doubt."

Think there will definitely be a vocal show of support for Nuno on Sunday, much like the was for Steve Cooper at Leicester a few seasons ago, when Cooper was also rumoured to be getting the sack. It would be madness to sack Nuno right now...

    Steve

The last thing Forest need is uncertainty around Nuno. Especially at the start of the season. I first thought this some rubbish swirling round Twitter. I can't believe this. I hope it's just a bit of a misunderstanding and it all settles down.

  7. What did Nuno say last week?published at 14:32 British Summer Time

It became apparent that things weren't all sunshine and rainbows at Nottingham Forest during Nuno Espirito Santo's pre-match news conference last week.

The Portuguese manager was downbeat before the season opener and expressed frustration at the club's summer transfer activity.

"The same, concerned," said Nuno, when asked how he was feeling. "Especially about the game on Sunday, we are going to play a tough game against a good team and we are short on options to give solutions that the game might need, which is our major concern. We need players.

"I think we weed another option for the goalkeeper situation, on the defensive line full backs. I think we are OK in the centre halves.

"Dominguez is injured, Danilo is not here so we need midfielders, on the wings also. In front we have Igor [Jesus], Chris [Wood] and [Taiwo Awoniyi] but maybe another body would be good because of the amount of games."

  16. 'Richarlison is my starting nine'published at 14:06 British Summer Time

Man City v Tottenham (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank on Richarlison and his other attacking options: "Right now, he is my starting nine. He scored two fantastic goals. He had two top games, he’s Brazilian number nine.

"He’s a very good player, I’m very happy with him. Richy wants to stay, I want to keep him, there have been no talks about anything else.

"We just played the first game, scored three goals, that’s pretty promising. It’s a long season, we need players with different abilities.

"[Mohammed] Kudus has the spark and creativity, Wilson [Odobert] does that well, Mathys [Tel] can play different positions.

"We have two good strikers in Dom [Solanke] and Richy, Brennan [Johnson] the deep runner. We have variation up the pitch, but again we’ll look out there for someone who can strengthen but that’s in all areas."

  17. 'I am confident we will sign a player'published at 14:05 British Summer Time

Man City v Tottenham (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

More from Tottenham manager Thomas Frank on the final few days of the transfer window: "We are in the market and we will look to strengthen the team. We have a good squad and good players. I see 23 players working hard on a game plan for Manchester City tomorrow.

"We need to do everything we can to be as competitive as possible. I am confident we will sign a player before the end of the window. Two players in, two players out so probably a bit similar.

"It’s the same level but that’s good. it’s my job and that of my staff to make sure we can compete. Every club wants to sign players as early as possible, but it's not that easy. I'm a positive guy, I'm not that fearful.

    "I believe something will happen."

  18. 'I don't want any players that don't want to come here'published at 14:02 British Summer Time

Man City v Tottenham (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank on potential incomings: "I don’t speak about specific players, unless they are at our fantastic club.

"There have been a lot of rumours, a lot of times there’s nothing in it. That’s part of the business. There will be a lot of links, to generalise that, to be very, very clear, I don’t want any players that don’t want to come to the club. They don't want to come to the club, to wear this fantastic badge, we don’t want them here.

"It’s a couple of things, the club is working very hard to see if we can strengthen the squad with players who can improve the squad. That’s what we’ll continue doing until the end of the window."

  19. Udogie and Kulusevski remain outpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time

Man City v Tottenham (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank on team news: "Destiny [Udogie] is better, trained with the team twice, full training, just too soon to be involved for City. We want him to train tomorrow and have another good week next week. He looks in a good place, very positive about him.

"Biss will miss this game as well. [Dejan] Kulusevski is out, that’s a longer one, I don’t want to put a timeline on it."
