Brentford v Aston Villa (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Brentford

Brentford could see four players who missed the opening weekend of the Premier League return for the first home game of the season.

Defender Ethan Pinnock and midfielder Yunus Emre Konak have trained this week after recovering from their respective injuries. So has Paris Maghoma, who has completed his rehabilitation programme for his hamstring injury and trained all week.

Mikkel Damsgaard, who missed the opening game due to becoming a father, is expected to return.

For those sidelined on a longer-term basis, Vitaly Janelt is closer to a return after re-joining the first-team squad for training this week and Gustavo Nunes is back on the grass but not yet in group training.

There's more uncertainty, however, over Manchester City's goalkeeper situation.

James Trafford scooped up the Championship Player of the Year at the PFA awards earlier this week, but it's unsure whether he will be City's number one this season.

Ederson, who is entering the final year of his contract, has been heavily linked with a move to Galatasaray and the 32-year-old missed the opening game victory over Wolves because of illness.

Trafford, 22, started in their 4-0 win against Wolves, but it remains to be seen if he keeps his place ahead of the Brazilian.

  11. Dias extends stay at Man City until 2029published at 12:18 British Summer Time

    Ruben DiasImage source, Getty Images

Earlier we heard that Ruben Dias had signed a new two-year deal with Manchester City.

The 28-year-old's previous deal had been set to expire in 2027 but his new deal will take him to 2029, with the option of a further 12 months.

Dias joined City from Benfica for a fee of £65m in 2020 and was named Premier League player of the year at the end of his first season.

The defender has helped City to four league titles, the Champions League, the EFL Cup and the FA Cup during his five years at Etihad Stadium.

It's news that should put some spring into the step of manager Pep Guardiola, who is due to speak to the media in just over 10 minutes time.

I'm not a Palace fan but surely the board, or whoever, can be excused for the transfer window what with the uncertainty of which European competition yous would be in? It is a massive factor in convincing players to come or stay. And I hope yous batter Forest this weekend.

    Harry, Maidstone

People forget where Palace were when Parish took over. No one else wanted us. Under him we’ve gone from yo-yo club to established PL team and won an FA Cup, that shouldn’t be forgotten. But we’ve always been poor in getting business done early and both points can be right.

    Jon, Manchester

Fans criticising Parish really need to check where we are. This is the most successful period of palace history, it’s been him leading us from administration to now. We need more players, yes, but lets not kid ourselves than European football means top 6 money to spend.

Another season and the same old Parish. Talks a great deal about supporting the manager, but here we are.. only just replaced Dougie Freedman, Eze gone, Guehi going and no replacements, Glasner clearly unhappy, and Parish sitting on his hands. The fans deserve better from their Chairman.

Steve Parish once again showing that he lacks the foresight to be an owner of a Premier League club. If Palace fans want to be angry it should be at their own chairman.

Things have been quiet at Selhurst Park so far, but expect it to heat up in the next period as manager Oliver Glasner sets his sights on a defender and a forward.

This all centres around the futures of captain and defensive lynchpin Marc Guehi and forward Eberechi Eze.

Liverpool are hopeful of luring Guehi, who has only one year left on his contract, to Anfield, while Eze now looks on his way to Arsenal after they hijacked his move to Tottenham.

These would leave big boots to fill.

Palace have been linked with Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, while Leicester City playmaker Bilal El Khannouss is a transfer target.

Club Brugge's Christos Tzolis has also been touted but the Belgian club have every chance of progressing in the Champions League and want to keep their best players.

As a Palace fan I agree 100% with Glasner. I always felt we were sleepwalking into the season despite the highs of the FA Cup & Community Shield.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish speaking to Channel 5: "We will bring in players. It's finding the right ones. It's difficult to replace players like that [Eberechi Eze] and the squad was probably a little bit thin anyway.

"We will try and use the money and try and make ourselves maybe not individually as good but a bit broader, bit of a stronger base and give ourselves a few more options."
