Forward Federico Chiesa has played for just 18 minutes in the Premier League since joining Liverpool from Juventus last summer.

The Italian is returning to fitness but manager Arne Slot says it could be tough to get him up to speed in the packed schedule.

"What he needs is playing time," said Slot.

"If you haven't played for five or six months, it is sometimes difficult for a manager to give him those minutes because you don't know what to expect. Maybe the Southampton game would be a good game to give him minutes. He needs to get his fitness level. He needs playing time. But it is not always easy to find these minutes."

  3. Team news - Jota could returnpublished at 09:38 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December

Liverpool v Fulham (Sat 15:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Arne Slot says forward Diogo Jota could return to the Liverpool squad this weekend.

The former Wolves man has been out since injuring his ribs against Chelsea at the end of October but could return, while there is a chance Federico Chiesa could also be involved.

"I think they are (available)," said Slot. "We have one training session to go.

"Federico missed quite a lot. We have to see. Maybe Diogo is in the squad, maybe Federico as well but that depends on the numbers we have."

Alisson returned in goal against Girona in midweek and excelled so should start.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has defended striker Darwin Nunez ahead of the game against Fulham this weekend.

Nunez has scored just three goals for the Reds this season but Slot says he brings more than goals to the side.

Slot said: "Darwin has impact. He hasn't scored the amount of goals he or we would want but he has imapct with his work rate.

"He is part of a team that scoes a lot of goals - I don't only judge Darwin on his goals."

Johnson and Son were 10x worse than Werner. At least Werner put some effort in. If you're calling out Werner you need to be calling out about half a dozen spurs players from this season.

  6. Slot will want improvement from Girona winpublished at 09:16 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December

Liverpool v Fulham (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

Liverpool boss Arne Slot appears to be able to do no wrong at the moment. The Reds did not even play in the Premier League last week but had a good weekend as two of their three closest rivals slipped up.

Liverpool also remain top of the Champions League group in its new format as they achieved a sixth win out of six games with a 1-0 victory at Girona.

However, while Slot has come across as being calm, composed and measured so far, some frustration came to the surface in the wake of Tuesday's match in Spain.

Despite the Reds maintaining their 100% record in Europe this season, Slot was "far from pleased" with a performance in which his side did not have the control he demands and afforded Girona a number of chances.

Slot will want to make sure there is no repeat when Liverpool host Fulham in the league on Saturday (15:00) and he will be speaking to the media at 09:15 GMT today in the build up to that game.

Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa have been back in training and we should also get an update on their availability.

Get Involved: Tottenham's draw with Rangerspublished at 09:08 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December

I watched the Spurs game last night and the Werner witch hunt is out of order. The whole team was clearly rattled and making poor decisions and giving up possession all over the place. Actually a better example than Werner's first half is Forster in the second half kicking a ball that he could and should have picked up (because he presumably thought it was a back pass - it wasn't) and he kicked it straight to the Rangers attacker. Sorry, I'm not Werner's fan but don't make him a scapegoat for what was an unacceptable display across the entire squad - coach included.

Timo Werner has failed to excel since arriving at Tottenham from Leipzig last January.

The loan deal was initially until the end of last season - and then extended to cover this campaign too.

Werner scored twice in 14 games in the second half of 2023-24, but has netted only once in 19 appearances this season, with his struggles evidenced in the price built into his temporary deal.

Under the first arrangement, Spurs had the option to sign him for £15m - but it is now an £8.5m option to buy.

Werner has 24 goals from his 57 Germany caps, but last played for his country in a friendly defeat by Belgium in March 2023.

He also scored 23 goals in 89 appearances during a two-year spell at Chelsea, winning the 2021 Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup, before rejoining Leipzig in 2022.

Dejan Kulusevski replaced Timo Werner at half-time last night. As you can see the Swede was a lot tider in possession compared to Werner who gave the ball away multiple times in his 45 minutes on the left.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou says Timo Werner's performance was "not acceptable" after replacing him at half-time in the 1-1 Europa League draw at Rangers.

The German forward, 28, lost possession 16 times, did not win any of his five duels and only completed 69% of his passes.

Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson, covering the game for BBC Sportsound, said at the time: "Timo Werner's final decision on the ball so far has been abysmal.

"I'll be amazed if he's not hooked at half-time."

Werner was indeed replaced before the players came out for the second half by Dejan Kulusevski, who went on to score a 75th-minute Spurs equaliser after Hamza Igamane had given Rangers the lead two minutes into the second half.

"When you've got 18-year-olds [in the squad], it [that performance] is not acceptable to me," said Postecoglou.

"I said that to Timo, he's a German international."

  13. Forster steps uppublished at 08:27 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December

    Fraser ForsterImage source, PA Media

Tottenham fans would have been rightly concerned when goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario broke his ankle in the 4-0 win over Manchester City last month.

But stand-in Fraser Forster has performed superbly, with the 36-year-old making a stunning late save at Ibrox to deny Rangers sub Cyriel Dessers a winner.

Spurs have won just one of their last eight games in all competitions - but it could have been worse without the performance of the former Celtic keeper.

“I thought we worked our way back into the game well and the subs coming on made a difference," Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou said.

"We scored a good goal, had a couple of other moments, but in the end, a great save by Frase gets us, in the context of where we are in Europe, an important point.”

Teenager Lily Murphy scored her first senior goal as Manchester City eased to victory against St Polten, but the win was overshadowed by Alex Greenwood being taken off on a stretcher.

Second-half goals for Murphy and Kerstin Casparij maintained City's 100% record in the Women's Champions League this season and keeps them top of Group D, three points ahead of defending champions Barcelona.

The hosts found plenty of joy down the left-hand channel as forward Murphy - making her first start in the absence of Khadija Shaw, who BBC Sport understands was left out as a precaution - attempted to make the most of her full first-team debut.
