Rochdale's National League game against Boston has been postponed after the match referee deemed parts of the pitch unplayable.

The match was called off less than 90 minutes before it was scheduled to kick off.

"As a club, we were intent on giving the game every possible chance of going ahead, with our groundstaff working tirelessly since the weekend to prepare the surface for tonight," Dale said in a statement., external

"However, despite best efforts, the referee was concerned about the corner of the pitch near the David Kilpatrick Main Stand and Smith Metals Family Stand, and has postponed the fixture."

No date has been set for the rearranged fixture.

The Greater Manchester side have played just 24 league games this season, four fewer than leaders Barnet, who are 15 points ahead of sixth-placed Dale.

Jimmy McNulty's men are in FA Trophy action this weekend, meaning they will have to play 22 National League games between Tuesday, 4 February and the league's final day on Monday, 5 May.

Struggling Boston are second-bottom in the fifth tier, seven points adrift of safety.
