That'll do it from us for today then.

The EFL always delivers and it's been another dramatic day.

Stockport dominated Wrexham to move within three points of the top two in League One, while Cambridge United and Crawley Town claimed draws against Barnsley and Bristol Rovers respectively to aid their relegation battle.

In League Two, Port Vale now lead by five points with Ethan Chislett's late goal getting the win at Morecambe, while Crewe's 2-0 victory over Notts County makes it seven games unbeaten for Lee Bell's side and they're up to second place.

MK Dons were 2-0 down to Cheltenham inside 13 minutes but won 3-2 to go fifth.

Late goals were the name of the game at the bottom with Colchester levelling in the 99th minute at home to Bradford and Carlisle grabbing a 92nd-minute equaliser at Bromley.

    And breathe everyone.

The EFL is back on Friday evening when Plymouth host Watford in the Championship, and Tranmere visit Cheltenham in League Two.

Be sure to join us, but before then, enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Carlisle's last-minute equaliser against Bromley doesn't see them out of the bottom two, while Morecambe's late loss against league leaders Port Vale sees their resilience go unrewarded as they stay at the bottom of the heap.

Harrogate are the only real victors of the bottom half as they leap three places into 17th and put further distance between them and those at the bottom following a late win over Chesterfield.

Notts County will be feeling mighty sore as their promotion rivals all see themselves rise while they fall from third to sixth.

The team who beat them 2-0, however, have had a fine afternoon as Crewe Alexandra leap from fifth to second while Doncaster move into third above Walsall who didn't play today.

MK Dons' hard-earned comeback to win Cheltenham 3-2 rewards them with a place in the top five as AFC Wimbledon's second-half performance sees them enter the top 10.

Gillingham also suffer as a consequence of missing out on today's action but it does mean that Bradford City's heartache of losing out on all three points after Colchester's late equaliser is softened by a two-place jump into eighth.

Though the biggest winners are those at the very top - Port Vale's 1-0 win over Morecambe may have been a scrappy one but it puts them five points clear at the pinnacle of League Two.

  4. 'A different win but just as pleasing'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2024

    FT: Stockport 1-0 Wrexham

Stockport manager Dave Challinor speaking to BBC Radio Manchester:

"A different type of win to last week but just as pleasing. We had to show more personality. We did really well to prevent them from having any meaningful shots on goal, it was a big defensive effort from everybody."

It’s pretty much as you were in the lower half of League One.

Cambridge bounced back from their derby hiding with a good draw with Barnsley to move within three points of safety.

Crawley remain in the relegation zone after their point at Bristol Rovers - who move up a place to 14th - but the Reds nudged to within a point of Leyton Orient.

Meanwhile, Blackpool and Northampton failed to lift themselves comfortably clear of the drop zone with a goalless stalemate.

A great day for the top two without even having to kick a ball.

Leaders Wycombe and second-placed Birmingham will have expected their rivals to make up ground while they were out of action due to international call-ups.

But a defeat for third-placed Wrexham and draws for Barnsley and Lincoln mean there remains a two-point buffer for Blues in the automatic places with games in hand.

Stockport were the only winners in League One and it was a big one.

Their 1-0 victory over the Red Dragons propels them up to fourth and within three points of the top two.

There were five goalless encounters at half-time but a second-half flourish sees only Newport County and Grimsby Town end without sight of the net.

Harrogate Town took a 2-1 victory at home to Chesterfield while Salford City and Doncaster Rovers finished a 1-1 draw.

Also ending with a goal each wasCarlisle United and Bromley after an 83rd-minute red card to the Ravens' Lewis Leigh gave the Blues an opportunity to grab the equaliser in stoppage time.

Colchester United also grabbed their equaliser in the dying minutes of injury time - the ninth to be exact - to gain a point in their 1-1 draw with Bradford City.

Port Vale remain on top as they got a late 1-0 win over bottom side Morecambe.

AFC Wimbledon ended a strong second-half with a 3-1 victory over Barrow while Crewe Alexandra won 2-0 against Notts County but saw substitute Chris Long head to the tunnel with a red card not long after stripping off his warm-up kit.

MK Dons made a convincing comeback against Cheltenham to win 3-2 while Accrington Stanley and Swindon Town shared the points in their 2-2 draw.

Stockport's 1-0 win over Wrexham moves them up to fourth place and within three points of the top two.

Blackpool against Northampton and Bristol Rovers' meeting with Crawley both finished goalless which does little for any of the four sides in terms of league positions.

Cambridge United will be the happier from there 1-1 draw with promotion hopefuls Barnsley.

    Crewe 2-0 Notts County

The EFL's final unbeaten away record is ended.

A goal from Shilow Tracey and Ryan Cooney's penalty in either half hand Crewe all three points and they were full value for it.

Travey's goal will live long in the memory as he ran virtually the length of the field from a Notts County corner to score.

Substitute Christopher Long's late red card is the only blot on their copybook but as for Notts County it took them half an hour to produce a shot on target and despite changes in the second-half they failed to seriously threaten the home side enough.

Crewe are rolling along nicely and up to second place.

A 99th-minute equaliser for Colchester!?!?!!? A late corner, with even the goalkeeper up. Jamie Donnell is unmarked at the back post and squeezes in his first professional goal.

Every point is crucial for the U's at the wrong end of League Two.

Both sides had their chances to grab a winner, but neither could make the breakthrough.

Not a great point for two sides in the lower reaches of League One.

Newport have missed a penalty in the second half and have now spurned an open goal in stoppage time.

Cameron Antwi tees up Courtney Baker-Richardson. Two yards out, the headlines being written but he scuffs wide. He lays still, head on the ground.

But the Northampton defender gets a touch to deflect it past the post.

    Steve O'Halloran
Former Stockport defender on BBC Radio Manchester

I can come up for air now after this.

Some of the Stockport fans will agree with me but they are in full voice now. It was tantalising stuff today, you couldn't keep your eyes off it.

If you don't finish the game off with an extra goal, then you put yourself in severe pressure - Stockport were hanging on there.

Phil Parkinson is letting his frustration out. He was looking for a good result today and it slipped away from him as the game went on.

    Morecambe 0-1 Port Vale

    The leaders march on.

It was nip and tuck but Ethan Chislett's 83rd minute goal gives Vale the three points and a five point advantage at the top of the table.

Ben Tollitt and Callum Jones came close for Morecambe and their efforts probably deserved a point in front of a season high crowd of 4,150 but when you're at the top there's always a chance of producing once decisive moment and that's what Port Vale did.

Dean Cornelius should have halted Harrogate's three-game losing streak. Toby Sims' shot was saved but it landed for Cornelius, who calmed himself and picked out the bottom corner.

Stockport were too good and the only surprise is they only managed the one goal.

The all important strike arrived after 24 minutes as Wrexham blocked two Stockport efforts but Louie Barry was on hand to fire in his 11th EFL goal of the season.

Callum Burton had to deny Fraser Horsfall, Ethan Pye and Barry again.

Phil Parkinson rang the changes in the second-half but Wrexham had nothing to offer in attack and the home side move up to fourth place.
