Manchester United are moving the ball around nicely, with Jess Park and Hinata Miyazawa unsuprisingly being very active in midfield.

This has been a better period of time for Valerenga since Manchester United's quick start but the hosts are dealing with the Norwegians' pressure well.

They haven't been able to get anywhere near the box.

When you consider Manchester United's next two home games in the Champions League are against Paris St-Germain at Old Trafford next month and then another heavyweight French team Lyon after that, this is very much the one to miss.

Nevertheless, I am surprised at the relative lack of numbers.

There were far more here against Chelsea on Friday night for an excellent 1-1 draw for Marc Skinner's team.

  10. 'Not a good result at all'published at 19:58 BST

    FT: Twente 1-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor speaking to Disney+: "It's not a good result at all. We wanted to start the campaign with three points and a victory. Tonight, out of possession I am quite happy with the performance, even if we conceded a goal. In possession, when you play this game you need to show more desire especially when you are in the box. We created a lot of opportunities and couldn't score more than one. In the first half we had multiple situations in the box and we had 18 crosses, only six times we were first on the ball. This is not enough when you play a Champions League game."

On if Chelsea can take learnings from the result: "I told my players at the end a bad result is tough right now because it's not what we were expecting but we need to stay together and take some learnings from that. Keep working hard and that's the only thing we can do, stay together and find solutions. For now it's coming back and reviewing the game and making sure we mentally are able to turn around and focus on the next one.

"We want to be an aggressive team, we want to play a high block. I don't think Twente created a lot but once is enough for them to score. We took risks in our game but I think that is the right thing to do. we should be dominant more than what we showed."

On the importance of mentality: "It's crucial. Sometimes you talk a lot about tactics, but the main thing in football is to have the right mentality, the right intensity when you have the ball. We tried and tonight it's tough, but we need to take the learnings from this game."

Hit the thumb's up if you think three points are on the way for Marc Skinner's side - or the thumb's down if not.

  12. 'We can have a magical season in Champions League'published at 19:56 BST

Man Utd v Valerenga (20:00 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Marc Skinner, speaking on Disney+: "We're playing well, so I think it'll be a tough challenge tonight, Valerenga, they're going to have lots of energy, lots of direct quality, so it'll be a tough task. But I've said to the players just enjoy yourselves but play via intensity because it's hard for any team to play to our level and if we do that we'll have a good night."

On playing in the Champions League being a test: "Absolutely, but do you know what? Even with the test we have in the depths, it's all about your mindset. Players must come into this game and enjoy it. Champions League level is for the best teams, so we must perform like one of the best teams. And if we do that, then we can have a magical season, but we've got to work hard in every moment and not worry about things out of our control. The thing we can do is focus on tonight, solely on Valerenga and beating a very good team."

Twente goalscorer Danique van Ginkel speaking to Disney+: "We made big, big steps. We fought as a team, the plan was good. We defended a lot but I am really proud."

On her goal: "It was really important and a really good goal. I got the ball and thought 'shoot' and it was a good goal."

On if this gives Twente confidence going forward: "Yeah, we made big steps. You see if we defend good we can get a lot of chances. We will see."

    Ellen White
Former England striker on BBC Women's Football Weekly

I feel like this has been a really great move for Jess Park. There were a lot of questions: why let Grace Clinton go to Man City? Why is Jess Park going to Man United? Why do that? But I feel like she's let her football do the talking.

She's settled in really well and I feel like she's great on the ball technically, but she's got a good fitness level as well. She'll go right down the byline and defend for you, and then she'll get on her bike and straight away trying to get in a pocket.

She's good at looking over her shoulder like, where's my player? Can I turn? Then she'll be left wing, and then she'll find her way back on the right, and she'll pick up lovely pockets.

For her, it's just about building that relationship and scoring more goals is what she'll want to do for this team because she gets into good positions.

Manchester United Football Club has enjoyed many famous European nights but tonight they break new ground.

It is the first time United's women's side have played a game in the Champions League proper, after Marc Skinner's side came through two rounds of qualifying to join fellow WSL sides Arsenal and Chelsea in the main draw.

With French heavyweights Lyon and PSG, Juventus and Atletico Madrid amongst their six opponents, United need to hit the ground running if they are to make the top-12 to secure a spot in the preliminary knockout round.

"Competing in the league phase is historic for us," Skinner explains in his programme notes.

"But we can't just make it a historic moment.

"As we walk out hearing the Champions League music, I know the players will be proud and enjoy the moment.

"But the minute the whistle goes, it's time to play."
