This is the first FA Cup meeting between Watford and Chesterfield – the Hornets have won 15 of their last 16 against non-league sides in the competition, with the exception being a 3-2 loss to Northwich Victoria in January 1977.
Chesterfield have won just one of their last nine games against Watford in all competitions (D3 L5), with this the first meeting between the sides since a 1-0 third tier win for the Hornets in January 1998.
Watford have lost their FA Cup third round tie in each of the last four seasons, last going out at this stage in five consecutive campaigns between 1997-98 and 2001-02.
Chesterfield are looking to reach the FA Cup fourth round for the first time since 2014-15, though they’re winless in seven meetings with sides from the top two divisions in the competition (D2 L5).
Chesterfield have won both of their FA Cup games 1-0 this season; they last won and kept a clean sheet in the first three rounds of the competition proper in 1996-97, when they eventually reached the semi-final.
