Louie Barry's memorable first-half strike boosted Stockport County's promotion bid and dented Wrexham's.

After Ollie Norwood had his shot blocked Barry struck with a superb effort from the edge of the box in the 24th minute.

It was Barry's 11th goal of Stockport's League One campaign and Wrexham could not find an equaliser despite dominating the latter stages.

In front of a bumper crowd of 10,328 the hosts rose two places to fourth, with defeat leaving Wrexham one place and a point above them.

Stockport manager Dave Challinor speaking to BBC Radio Manchester:

"A different type of win to last week but just as pleasing.

"We had to show more personality. We did really well to prevent them from having any meaningful shots on goal.

"It was a big defensive effort from everybody."
