Shannon O'Brien scored a stoppage-time equaliser as Leicester prevented West Ham from claiming their first Women's Super League win of the season.

The Hammers were on course to pick up their first three points of the campaign after Shekiera Martinez broke the deadlock in the 51st minute.

But substitute O'Brien pounced late to break West Ham hearts, poking home Sari Kees's cross after finding herself unmarked at the back post.

West Ham remain winless after their opening eight league games, but the draw did see Rehanne Skinner's side claim their first point.

Martinez - the club's top scorer last term - put the hosts ahead after the restart, getting in front of her marker to direct Anouk Denton's cross in at the near post for her first goal of the season.

But a lack of concentration cost the Hammers in the end, and they remain rooted to the bottom of the table - level on points with Liverpool, who also conceded a late equaliser to Brighton on Sunday.

Leicester, meanwhile, see their winless run stretch to six games in the WSL and sit ninth - five points above West Ham in the relegation play-off position.

Having scored just twice in their opening seven games, West Ham's issues in front of goal were becoming a big problem for Skinner.

Viviane Asseyi netted from the penalty spot in a 4-1 defeat by Brighton, while their only other goal arrived when Arsenal goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar handled the ball into her own net.

Such was West Ham's desperation, chants of "we want a goal" sounded from the home fans during the first half on Sunday and there was an audible sigh of relief when Martinez's goal slowly trickled in.

But Skinner will be horrified that her side let a rare goal, and an overall solid performance, go to waste in the final minute of stoppage time.

Apart from a golden opportunity that Sam Tierney sent wide before the break, Leicester had struggled to break down a resolute West Ham defence.

But it was all too easy for O'Brien to make an impact in the dying moments as she stood completely unmarked at the back post, ready to tap in Kees's brilliant low ball across the face of goal.

What next for these teams?

West Ham will be in Women's League Cup action on Wednesday when they face Southampton at 19:00 GMT.

Leicester, meanwhile, travel to Brighton in the Women's Super League on Sunday, 16 November (12:00 GMT).
