  2. Huddersfield 'are similar to us' - Clarkepublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 5 October

    Huddersfield v Barnsley (12:30 BST)

    Barnsley

Barnsley boss Darrell Clarke has found some similarities between themselves and Huddersfield ahead of the derby:

“It should be a good a good derby.

“It’s certainly been a frustrating period of a couple of home games, where we concede a late goal against Stockport and then a very bitty performance the other night, they were frustrating, feels like a few points wasted.

“[Michael] Duffy is a top-class manager, a top guy he’s adjusting to a new club who’s got a very talented squad in it and it’s taking a little bit longer than he would of hoped for it to gel.

“Similar to us in certain aspects but we have managed to fight and scrap a few more points.

“We want to be competitive; we want to be aggressive; we want to win our duels, control the ball and try and hurt them. I understand we don’t want to be going over the top it’s a derby game we don’t want to be losing players for silly discipline and tackles."

  3. 'We're in a trough at the minute' - Duffpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 5 October

    Huddersfield v Barnsley (12:30 BST)

    Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Boss Michael Duff has suggested confidence is part of the issue for the Terriers this season:

“Footballers are animals of confidence, you can see it sometimes, you see teams and all of a sudden they look like they can run faster, jump higher, every shot they hit goes in.

“We’re not in that moment, so all you can do is stay calm, believe in the work that they’re doing, trying to get them to believe that the work that they’re doing on the training ground, and the way they execute on the training ground, is the way to do it on a matchday, and just keep working hard like that.

“If there was a magic wand, I wouldn’t be sat here, I’d be sitting on a beach somewhere in probably the Maldives or something, but that’s the same as every football manager.

“People go through peaks and troughs, we’re in a trough at the minute, no doubt about it, but still we’re nine games in."

Huddersfield Town v Barnsley (12:30 BST)

These two Yorkshire clubs have been bumping heads in the EFL since 1910 with Huddersfield holding the upper hand with 31 wins to Barnsley's 25.

Both have tasted FA Cup success, Huddersfield have won the title and recent times have seen both grace the Premier League but they now find themselves in the League One dogfight.

Michael Duff is the man charged with resurrecting Huddersfield's listing ship but today they're looking to avoid five successive defeats in the third tier for the first time since January 1993.

Barnsley are faring better with four wins from their first nine league games and just the two defeats.

In Darrell Clarke the South Yorkshire side have a man well versed in promotion with success at Port Vale and Bristol Rovers in the EFL and before that he led Salisbury to the National League, although he's yet to achieve the feat at this level.

  5. Can 'unhappy' Randall brighten Peterborough's day?published at 12:11 British Summer Time 5 October

    Peterborough v Stevenage (12:30 BST)

Peterborough and Stevenage may not be feeling particularly confident for the early kick-off at London Road.

Boro haven't won an away game in 12 league appearances and failed to score in their last three - though they have managed to take all six points from their previous two games against Wrexham and Charlton Athletic at Broadhall Way.

Whereas Peterborough have suffered three successive games without a win and have fallen to 16th, a long way off the play-off position they found themselves in last season.

It hasn't helped Posh manager Darren Ferguson that his side have been hit with a flurry of injuries that have kept the options from the bench limited, as well as having their highest paid player left out of the squad due to being "not happy at the club".

But midfielder Joel Randall appears to have made amends with his boss and is back in the squad for today's encounter with Stevenage - albeit on the bench.

Will he be the difference maker that changes the tide for Peterborough?

  6. Fleetwood to continue unbeaten home record?published at 12:08 British Summer Time 5 October

    Fleetwood v Bromley (12:30 BST)

Fleetwood go into this on the back of ending high-flying Walsall’s 100% home record on Tuesday evening. Not only that, they did so in twice coming from behind to thrash the Saddlers 6-2 and record a second successive win.

Charlie Adam’s side who sit sixth in the standing following their second successive win are unbeaten on home soil in League Two this campaign.

New signing Liam Shaw does not make the squad for the hosts after he was unveiled yesterday on a free transfer.

Bromley picked up their third draw in their last five league games in their last outing against Chesterfield which ended 2-2.

After winning both of their opening two League Two games 2-0 this season, the Ravens are since winless across seven outings (D3 L4), conceding 14 goals in total across that run.

  7. More old school AC Milan vibes from Grimsby?published at 12:06 British Summer Time 5 October

    Grimsby v Doncaster (12:30 BST)

Grimsby will be looking to build on their shock win at League Two leaders Gillingham on Tuesday.

It was their second win on the road as Kieran Green grabbed the only goal of the game with boss David Artell comparing his side's defensive structure to Arrigo Sacchi’s legendary AC Milan side that won back-to-back European Cups in 1989 and 1990.

The Mariners sit just outside of the play-off places, are in good form and on course to make it four wins on the bounce for the first time since 2019.

Goalkeeper Jackson Smith makes his second appearance after his emergency seven-day loan from Barnsley with Jake Eastwood ruled out for six months with a knee injury.

Doncaster also go into today’s game on the back of a 1-0 win thanks to Harry Clifton’s late strike against Barrow which was their first win in their last four league games (D1, L2).

Rovers have won each of their last three away EFL games against Grimsby, scoring 13 times in the process.

No, it's not the name of some blockbuster coming to a multiplex near you soon but there's enough drama in Leagues One and Two for someone to package up at some point.

Birmingham City, along with Arsenal, Manchester City and Sheffield United are the only unbeaten side left in the top four tiers of English football and they protect that proud record at Charlton Athletic.

Wrexham are already five points behind Blues and have a 100% home record to defend against Northampton.

Burton and Cambridge United remain winless in League One as they host Bristol Rovers and visit Exeter respectively.

The vagaries of League Two mean everyone's tasted defeat at least once with the lead changing hands three times alone last Saturday so, while the leaders Gillingham head to Crewe those of a more morbid persuasion might have an eye on the Lancashire derby at the bottom.

Accrington Stanley, without a win meet Morecambe who, yes, are also yet to win and in fact, alongside Cambridge United have the longest winless run in the EFL which currently stands at 14 games.

Whoever you support there's a story line to be had so get out the popcorn and stick with us for the next few hours...
