    Charlton 0-0 Birmingham

This one hasn't started with quite the same gusto that the London v West Midlands game in the Premier League has...

Charlton have only won two of their last seven league matches against Birmingham, only scoring more than a single goal in one of them.

Can they manage multiple this time round?

  6. League leaders Gills to bounce back?published at 14:57 British Summer Time 5 October

    Crewe v Gillingham (15:00 BST)

Gillingham manager Mark BonnerImage source, PA Media

Crewe have had a little longer to prepare for this encounter as their scheduled game on Tuesday against AFC Wimbledon was postponed because the Dons were in action in their Carabao Cup third-round tie at Newcastle.

In their last outing, the Railwaymen suffered a 2-1 defeat at Newport last Saturday. That was their first loss in their last five games having won four in row prior.

Gillingham travel to the Mornflake Stadium as league leaders despite going down 1-0 against Grimsby earlier in week in what was their second defeat of the season and their first at home this year.

Despite that - across England’s top four tiers this season, only Liverpool (2) have conceded fewer goals than Gillingham (3) with the Gills keeping the joint-most clean sheets this season amongst all 92 sides (6). Now there’s a stat for Gills fans to savour.

Second-placed Notts County will be looking to keep the pressure on Gillingham and Doncaster at the summit of League Two sitting just a point behind.

The Magpies picked up at 2-0 win against Carlisle on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Alassana Jatta with his fourth of the season and Scott Robertson with his first for the club.

Notts County have tasted defeat just once in their opening nine league games this season (W5 D3), scoring 17 goals in the process – the joint-most in League Two alongside Walsall.

Meanwhile, Port Vale are on a good run of form themselves despite their 1-1 draw at home against Colchester last time out

Darren Moore’s side are unbeaten across their last five league games (W3 D2) and could go six successive games without defeat for the first time since 2023.

Mansfield Town v Blackpool (15:00 BST)

Mansfield manager Nigel CloughImage source, Rex Features

Ooh, this looks good, very good.

Mansfield, fresh from promotion have taken to a first season in the third tier since 2003 like ducks to water or should that be Stags to, well, whatever Stags do...

Nigel Clough's side are going for a fifth straight win at this level for the first time since 1976 and could go second with a win.

Blackpool are yet to lose in the league under Steve Bruce and are joint top scorers in the division alongside Birmingham.

Third against sixth, we could be in for a treat.

    FT: Huddersfield 2-0 Barnsley

    Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield goalscorer Ben Wiles speaking to to BBC Radio Leeds following their derby day victory:

"[The win] was something we needed massively, I know performances haven't been the best lately, to prove we have still got it in there and still be winners.

"We can be more consistent and thats what we are going to do we are a fresh group, all it takes is a few more wins and we will hit the ground running, we know as players, club and staff included that we haven't been good enough.

"We can only apologise for those performances. The beauty of it is there's another week, we go into training we work on things we can only get better and hopefully that's what we can do."

Rotherham United v Reading (15:00 BST)

Rotherham manager Steve EvansImage source, Rex Features

Rotherham's yo-yo existence between League One and the Championship is a well known story but the predicted promotion push under Steve Evans is yet to materialise.

Two wins from the first nine games haven't set pulses racing in South Yorkshire while failing to score in four of those games is a pointer to the Millers' issues and makes them the fourth lowest scorers in the division.

On the field at least, Reading fans have been given cause for optimism.

Amongst all the off-field wrangling the Royals have carved out back-to-back victories and go for a third in a row in the league for the first time since August 2022.

It sounds easy when you say it but Reading haven't won away since April 9...

  11. Cobblers look to ruin Wrexham's 100% recordpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 5 October

Wrexham v Northampton Town (15:00 BST)

Jack Marriott celebrates scoring for Wrexham at the RacecourseImage source, PA Media

The Racecourse has been an untouchable fortress for the Red Dragons this season having won all of their opening four home league games, the only side in League One to do so.

If they are to beat Northampton Town today, Wrexham will get themselves one closer to matching their record from the 1975-76 season when they won their first six league games on their own patch.

The Cobblers came out the better in this fixture last time out with a 1-0 victory but that was back in 2006, so this will be new territory for the squad putting their studs into the Welsh ground.

It'll be a tough ask for a side that have lost their last two successive league matches to tarnish Wrexham's 100% record but all good things must come to an end eventually - and Northampton Town will be hoping to be the ones to deliver the blow.

  12. Can Charlton trounce 'the team to beat'?published at 14:46 British Summer Time 5 October

    Charlton v Birmingham (15:00 BST)

Charlton Athletic are in a tricky spell, having lost their last three league games, so perhaps having to host an unbeaten team flying at the top of the table is causing a few anxious sighs among the supporters.

Birmingham City striker Alfie May has claimed that Blues are "the team to beat" this week and given how their return to League One has started, he can make a strong case for it.

The freshly relegated team has seen their huge investment from their new American owners return ten-fold, having not conceded a single loss so far in League One and winning all of their opening three away games.

If Blues take the three points today, it will be the first time they've won four successive opening league away matches since they did so in the second tier of the EFL in 1984.

It'll also mean the fourth successive league loss for the Addicks - something they will be desperately hoping to avoid.

  14. 'A good steady performance'published at 14:34 British Summer Time 5 October

    FT: Huddersfield 2-0 Barnsley

    Matt Glennon
Former Huddersfield keeper on BBC Radio Leeds

It was good steady performance some players that have been under performing did very well today, some really good goals to boot and a clean sheet. I don't think anyone could ask for anymore really.

On this afternoon, which was all about pressure handling the situation like Michael Duff said before the game, the players limited Barnsley to very little.

To get that second goal in such a fashion as well, to sneak above Barnsley in the table. The players, the management, the fans have enjoyed that.

  15. Both goals 'totally avoidable'published at 14:26 British Summer Time 5 October

    FT: Huddersfield 2-0 Barnsley

    Adie Moses
Ex-Barnsley defender on BBC Radio Sheffield

It's too easy again, people will analyse two wonderful strikes.

They are decent, but there is no pressure on the strikes by the Barnsley players.

No ones closed him down, they are two good strikes, but they are totally avoidable.

A dominant victory for Doncaster at Blundell Park.

Luke Molyneux and Jordan Gibson made goal scoring returns to the side with Gibson getting a brace.

It was tough going for Grimsby with Harvey Rodgers sent off just before the break.

The victory sees Rovers move into second in the table ahead of the 15:00 kick-offs.

    Peterborough 2-1 Stevenage

Kwame Poku gets a late winner for the home side to stop the rot to three league losses and extend Stevenage's away misery.

Stevenage had plenty of chances in both halves but came undone with a lack of quality in the final third. None more so than Lewis Freestone's limp shot towards Jed Steer as the game drew to a close.

Steer also played his part, making numerous big saves with the tip of his fingers to ensure his side didn't slip behind.

Stevenage midfielder Louis Thompson may have thought he could play hero again when substitute Harvey White sent the ball his way to get back level but a final minute corner saw Poku take up that mantle for himself, finding the smallest of space to put the ball in the net.

Boro's hunt for an away win goes up to unlucky number 13 but Peterborough can leave London Road feeling more optimistic than when they entered.

    Fleetwood 0-0 Bromley

No goals at Highbury Stadium as Fleetwood remain unbeaten at home. They move up to fifth ahead of the rest of the games later.

It's four draws now in their last six league games for Bromley. They'll be happy with a point on the road.

  19. goal

GOAL: Peterborough 2-1 Stevenagepublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 5 October

    Kwame Poku (90+4 mins)

    That'll do it.

Peterborough win themselves a last ditch corner and there's a scramble in the box as both sides try desperately to get the result they want.

It's a small margin but Kwame Poku sneaks his shot through and it finds the net.

He's on the floor, knackered. A job well done in the final minute of the game.

    Huddersfield 2-0 Barnsley

David Kasumu celebrates sealing the points for Huddersfield against BarnsleyImage source, Rex Features

It took a while but Huddersfield got the job done on an afternoon when they were clearly the better side.

In saying that, Michael Duff's side took a while to get going, perhaps understandably given their four match losing streak before today.

Despite forcing 17 corners it took some nice interplay from substitutes Herbie Kane and Freddie Lapdapo on 83 minutes to set-up Ben Wiles to fire home for his fourth goal of the season from 18 yards.

David Kasumu added some deserved gloss in injury time as he found the target from outside the box.

Kasumu, Marshall and Radulovic had all seen first-half efforts well saved by Gabriel Slonina in the Barnsley goal to keep it scoreless and you could have forgiven Huddersfield fans for fearing the worst as they failed to make their dominance pay before Wiles broke the deadlock.

It's now just one win in five games for Darrell Clarke's Barnsley who rarely threatened and only a deflected Stephen Humphrys free-kick forced home goalkeeper Jacob Chapman into a serious save.

This will relieve the pressure on Michael Duff but they badly need Freddie Ladapo to get up to match fitness and for Josh Koroma to return from injury.
