    Some great work initially from substitute Kalum Thompson who flies down the left wing before creating the chance for Allen.

    Playing with the lead in the first half suited Newry's style of play as they were able to catch Carrick out on the break.

    However, with Carrick now ahead, they have finally brought a level of control and measure to the game against their Championship opponents.

    Matthew Ferguson with a low cross from the right that found Max Davidson at the back post but he couldnt keep his shot down.

    Moments later a header inside the Newington box brings a superb save from Dean Smyth in goal.

    Ballymena hoist a high ball forward which Stephen O'Donnell nods down but goalkeeper Marc Matthews wins a 50/50 tussle with Ballymena striker Ethan Devine to emerge with the ball.

    Unsurprisingly, Ballymena have had a lot of the ball since the break but Ards continue to hold firm.

    Carrick Rangers come close to getting a fifth goal, as another ball dangerously goes into the Newry box, but Daniel Gibson and Paul Heatley get in each other's way with both men queueing up to score.

    Newry's defence looks all over the place and Carrick look likely to find a few more goals before this game is done.
