Callum Hendry scored the only goal as MK Dons beat early high-fliers Walsall 1-0 at Stadium MK.

A first-half goal from Hendry was enough for the Dons to pick up a second win of the season as Walsall slipped to a second defeat in League Two.

The Dons had lost three of their first four games, but Mike Williamson’s side opened the scoring when Hendry tapped home Liam Kelly’s cross.

Walsall’s best chance to equalise saw Jack Earing’s header kept out by a fine save from Tom McGill. The hosts nearly scored again when Aaron Nemane saw a shot bounce just wide.

Laurence Maguire flicked a header wide after the break, before Alex Gilbey shot just wide and Sam Hornby kept out strikes by Joe Tomlinson and Gilbey.

Walsall struggled to create many chances. Despite making attacking substitutions, the Saddlers were unable to find a breakthrough in regular time or eight minutes added on as they suffered a second away defeat of the campaign.
