Cardiff's Perry Ng unleashes a goal-bound shot against Wigan

Cardiff City got back to winning ways in League One as Perry Ng's goal and a late Yousef Salech penalty gave them all three points at Wigan Athletic.

The Latics had been dumped out of the EFL Cup by Wycombe Wanderers in midweek, while Cardiff toppled top flight Burnley as they bounced back from their first league loss of the season against Bradford City last weekend.

It was Cardiff who settled quicker and threatened early when Ryan Wintle's shot from distance was well saved by Sam Tickle, although it was not all one-way traffic with Fraser Murray's header giving the visitors a nervous moment.

But the Bluebirds took the lead when Rubin Colwill teed up right-back Ng to beat Tickle with the help of a deflection.

The Latics should have been level at the break though, with Nathan Trott's point-blank save denying Christian Saydee what had seemed a certain goal.

The excellent Ng saw another goal-bound effort tipped away by Tickle, with Wigan responding as Jason Kerr sent a header just over while Trott was again called into action to deny substitute Dara Costelloe.

Cardiff's victory was confirmed when Morgan Fox brought down Salech in the box - earning a red card in the process - deep into time added on, with Salech converting the penalty kick himself.

The Bluebirds edge back up into fourth, while Wigan fall to 14th after their first home league defeat of the season.
