  1. Aberdeen must learn from missed chances - Thelinpublished at 22:27 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: Celtic 5-1 Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin tells BBC Scotland: "We went out with a strong belief in our own things.

"The first half was 3-0 but we created some really good chances. That cost us a lot and that's something we have to learn and improve.

"We have to improve in the duels, in the pressing, how we defended some areas of the pitch in transitions. We still have learning points and those were exposed today.

"That's the journey we are on right now."

  2. Rodgers hails Maeda as 'symbol' of Celticpublished at 22:21 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: Celtic 5-1 Aberdeen

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Scotland: "I'm really, really pleased with the result and in particular the second half.

"First half we weren't quite there on our pressing and pressing is everything for us. We scored three goals and had some good moments but there were a number of ideas in the game we weren't overly happy with at half-time.

"Second half we were excellent, much better in our pressing and they didn't have comfort in the game to play."

On his team's capacity to respond to tough results, Rodgers says: "It's one of the great traits of this team, that resilience they have to bounce back when we slip. The response has been very, very good. That's a mark of the mentality of the team."

On Daizen Maeda, who took his tally to 25 goals for the season, the Celtic boss hails his Japanese forward as a "a really important player for us and the symbol of the team and how we want to work."

Rodgers adds: "He is not your traditional number nine, he moves in behind, anticipates things in the box when they drop, and is a wonderful example for our team, the work ethic, mentality, humility within it and when he plays wide or central, he scores for us."

  3. Celtic 'not happy at half-time' - Engelspublished at 22:18 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: Celtic 5-1 Aberdeen

Celtic midfielder Arne Engels tells Sky Sports: "I'm really happy. You see that we always bounce back after a defeat. The first-half was not our best first-half.

"Everybody was coming into the dressing room not happy, because some things were not going our way. We changed some things, looked after the ball and created lots of chances."

  5. Jota insists Celtic 'won't take foot off the pedal'published at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: Celtic 5-1 Aberdeen

Celtic attacker Jota tells Sky Sports: "I'm happy overall with the win. It was not the best performance in the first half, but we corrected some stuff and we could be ourselves again.

"It is a process. It has been a lot of games. It has been a while since I had this competition every game. I'm just getting fit as soon as possible. Feeling better game after game. I can't wait for the future.

"I think, as a Celtic player, you always aim to do better. We are no different from that. Even though we have a [16-point] advantage, it does not mean we are going to take our foot off the pedal."

  6. 'Balance not there' for Aberdeenpublished at 22:10 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: Celtic 5-1 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller

I don't think the two experienced holding midfielders worked for Aberdeen, you need fresher legs to get about the park.

I was really surprised Palaversa didn't play and never even came off the bench.

Although the intent was there, and it was refreshing, you have to defend as well. You can't just go forward.

They left themselves totally exposed and Celtic are too good a team to do that against. You've got to get the balance right.

  7. 'Heart knocked out of Aberdeen'published at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: Celtic 5-1 Aberdeen

    Pat Bonner

They weren't that decisive in their passing, their control broke down at times, but they've come away with a 5-1 win.

You can't criticise, really. I would be foolish to do that.

We thought Aberdeen would put up a good fight throughout but the heart was knocked out of them by that third goal.

Alistair Johnston has assisted his seventh goal at the Scottish Premiership this season.

He leads the league in assists alongside teammate Daizen Maeda.

Tonight was also his 100th appearance in all competitions.

Remember, this wasn't the only Scottish football tonight.

Airdrieonians beat Barry Robson's Raith Rovers 1-0 thanks to a Lewis McGrattan goal.

Hamilton Accies beat Dunfermline 1-0, with Stuart McKinstry scoring. Not a good night for the travelling Fife teams.

And at the Almondvale, Morton got a late goal through Niall McGinn but the game still finished 3-2 to Livingston.

What more can you say about Celtic?

16 points clear and they will win the league. They are the best team in the country by some distance.

A couple of months ago I would’ve said Nicolas Kuhn would be player of the season. But presumably he’s now been usurped by Daizen Maeda.

Has to be said, Callum McGregor’s not been bad either.

Brendan Rodgers simply has a wealth of talent at his disposal, and - the odd blip apart - they are far too good for the rest to handle.

  11. FULL-TIME Celtic 5-1 Aberdeenpublished at 21:55 Greenwich Mean Time

Not a vintage Celtic performance, but still enough to crush their opposition.

Aberdeen had plenty of chances in the first-half but passed up all of them. Celtic weren't as merciful.

Daizen Maeda, Jota, Callum McGregor and Yang Hyun-jun all got on the scoresheet, while Shayden Morris got a late consolation.

    Reaction to come.

    Shayden Morris

Aberdeen hit Celtic on the counter and get the consolation goal.

Shayden Morris takes it on the outside of Liam Scales, and the Aberdeen winger rifles it low through Kasper Schmeichel.

He is raging to have conceded that.

    Celtic 4-0 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller
Former Aberdeen captain on BBC Sportsound

Aberdeen have offered very little in attack since half-time.

You expect Pape Gueye to come on and add a little energy but he looks very heavy-legged. He doesn't look like he knows what he is supposed to be doing.

The midfield have struggled, the two full-backs have had no impact when in the first half they were pushing forward.

Had they taken their chances - and they had chances at good times - it's a different game.

They haven't, and Celtic have been clinical.

  17. Impact of Dons defeatpublished at 85 mins

    Celtic 4-0 Aberdeen

    Jonathan Sutherland
    BBC Sport Scotland

Aberdeen’s season took a nosedive after their 6-0 thrashing by Celtic in the League Cup in November.

Jimmy Thelin hasn’t bought into the notion that the severity of the scoreline was the cause of the downturn in form. But equally, it couldn’t have helped.

This has been a tough night in the end for Aberdeen - despite several glimpses of goal, squandered - and you do wonder slightly what impact that might have ahead of a huge game with Dundee United at the weekend.

Having said that, Celtic have the capacity to do this - and worse - to most teams domestically.

  18. Imperious Celticpublished at 83 mins

    Celtic 4-0 Aberdeen

Celtic have won 21 of their last 23 home leagues - they drew the other two - since the 2-0 defeat by Hearts in December 2023.

Their only home league defeat in 77, including this one. And they are yet to concede a goal at home in the league to any team but Aberdeen.

  19. Teenagers make their entrancepublished at 81 mins

    Celtic 4-0 Aberdeen

A couple more changes to bring you. For the Dons, Fletcher Boyd replaces Oday Dabbagh, who just had a lovely run snuffed out in the box.

Arne Engles and Jeffrey Schlupp are off for the hosts, and they're replaced by Liam Scales and 19-year-old Jude Bonnar, who makes his Celtic debut.

  20. Postpublished at 78 mins

    Celtic 4-0 Aberdeen

Celtic fire the ball to Adam Idah, who keeps the ball with a decent first touch. He finds Luke McCowan, and the ball is eventually worked to Arne Engels.

He takes a touch onto his left and smashes at goal, but Ross Doohan is behind this one.
