Airdrie player-mamager Rhys McCabe tells BBC Scotland: "We gift Ayr United back into the game with a sloppy individual mistake. It threw us off our game for 10 minutes.

"We get ourselves in front with a good goal, but the sloppiness cost us.

"These are tough places to go. You have to match them with the physical side and the intensity. We knew they'd come out with a rocket up the backside and they did.

"It's a reality check. I'm a glass half-full kind of guy. Sometimes it's good to be brought back to earth after so much success."

Scott Brown certainly still isn't happy about that challenge on Harry McHugh.

He calls it a "shambles". James McFadden quick to say it was "definitely a red".

Ayr United boss Scott Brown tells BBC Scotland: "It's good to see us looking up. The lads' endeavour has been exceptional.

"Our centre forward ended up playing right-back at one point, they keep working hard.

"We knew we could be ruthless in front of goal, and Anton [Dowds] was. He's a willing runner.

"We know where we are and we need to try and dig ourselves out the situation, and hopefully we did that tonight.

"We take one game at a time. We need to try and get to 40 points as quick as we can."

    Emmmmm, this looks sore.

In the aftermath of that challenge from Dean McMaster, Harry McHugh is in real pain, but the three points in the bank should help the recovery.

  12. FULL-TIME Ayr United 2-1 Airdrieonianspublished at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 29 March 2024

A quickfire comeback at the start of the second period sees Ayr United get the better of Airdrieonians again.

Anton Dowds and Sean McGinty's goals give Scott Brown's side all three points after Airdrie's Josh O'Connor had opened the scoring.

Calum Gallagher says he wasn't active as the ball was slipped through...

Josh Clarke, you're a braver man than me.

He has no hesitation in diving in low to take the ball from Calum Gallagher's feet.

Put his head where others (especially me) wouldn't.

Can Airdrie find a leveller? They haven't looked like it all half, really.

Another knock for Ayr United with Roy Syla now on the decks.

He'll limp off to replaced by Paul Smith. Will require so rejigging of the Ayr defence, you'd think.
