Barnsley are looking to complete a league double over Wigan Athletic for the first time, having won 2-0 earlier this season against the Latics.
Wigan have failed to score in their last three league games against Barnsley (D2 L1) since a 3-2 win in April 2017.
This is Barnsley’s first New Year’s Day match since a goalless draw with Luton back in 2019, while at Oakwell it’s their first since 2005, a 0-0 draw with Hartlepool United.
Wigan have won three of their last four New Year’s Day league matches, with all victories coming away from home, most recently at Birmingham in 2020.
