  1. 'I think it's going to be a great success' - Madueke completes movepublished at 17:24 18 July

Noni Madueke says he "can't wait to bring my style" to Arsenal after completing £48.5m move from Chelsea..

The 23-year-old has joined on a five-year contract, with his fee rising to just over £50m with add-ons.

Madueke made 92 appearances for the Blues after joining from PSV Eindhoven for £30m in January 2023 and scored 20 goals, helping them win the Conference League last season.

He was part of Crystal Palace and then Tottenham's academy before spending four-and-a-half years in the Netherlands, where he won the Dutch Cup.

Speaking to Arsenal's website he said: "I'm somebody who goes with my gut feeling a lot of the time and I feel like it's steered me in the right direction so far. So, I don't think it's going to be any different here. I think it's going to be a great success and I'm really happy to be here.

"I've just been relaxed, waiting for the green light and when I came in today, it all felt real. I'm really happy and really proud, so it's a great moment for me. It's great to go back home, be with my mum, my dad. I know my mum misses me in the house!

"It's already a great team with a clear identity and I can't wait to bring my style to the team and try and help the boys as much as possible to take that next step.

"To win all the competitions we're in [is the goal], I feel like we're definitely capable of doing that. And also to help the team in every way I can and grow as a player, but also as a person."

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta added: "We're all so happy to welcome Noni Madueke to the team.

"Noni is an exciting and powerful young player, with his performances and numbers in recent seasons being of consistently high quality. He is one of the most talented wide forward players in the Premier League.

"At just 23, Noni already brings experience of club and international football, and he knows the Premier League very well. Having seen the quality of Noni's performances up close in recent seasons, we're really excited he is joining us."

You can see why Mikel Arteta might be excited about the prospect of signing Noni Madueke.

His expected goals (9.6), his number of shots (80), touches in the opposition box (199) and progressive carries with the ball (242) were all higher than Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka in the Premier League last season.

Saka only played in 25 league matches compared to Madueke's 32, so it is a fairer comparison with Martinelli, who played 33 times.

Madueke also contributed a combined 10 goals and assists to Chelsea last season and could boost Arsenal's much-criticised attack.

Injuries plagued Arteta's side last season and they ended the season with limited options in the final third as they fell away in the title race.

Madueke is one of the most direct wingers in the league and Arsenal, who mainly play against teams who defend deep against them, could benefit from his eagerness to beat his defender and get a shot at goal.

The table, titled "Martinelli v Madueke v Saka" and attributed to the BBC, compares various performance metrics for each player, including:
Games Played: Martinelli (33), Madueke (32), Saka (25)
Minutes Played: Martinelli (2300), Madueke (2046), Saka (1735)
Goals: Martinelli (8), Madueke (7), Saka (6)
Expected Goals: Martinelli (7.4), Madueke (9.6), Saka (6.9)
Shots (inc. Blocks): Martinelli (55), Madueke (80), Saka (67)
Touches: Martinelli (1083), Madueke (1077), Saka (1094)
Touches in the Opp Box: Martinelli (195), Madueke (199), Saka (181)
Assists: Martinelli (4), Madueke (3), Saka (10)
Goals + Assists: Martinelli (12), Madueke (10), Saka (16)
Dribbles Completed: Martinelli (33), Madueke (45), Saka (41)
Dribble Success Rate: Martinelli (33%), Madueke (45.9%), Saka (50.6%)
Progressive Carries: Martinelli (216), Madueke (242), Saka (192)

Arsenal have received an approach from Fulham to re-sign attacker Reiss Nelson.

The structure of the deal, which is likely to be a loan, is still to be finalised but talks are ongoing as all parties try to find a resolution.

Arsenal leave for their pre-season tour of Asia on Saturday and, with Nelson available to leave this summer, there could be a benefit in concluding any transfer before then.

Gunners academy graduate Nelson spent last season on loan at Craven Cottage, making 12 appearances under Marco Silva before his season was cut short by injury.

Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri has agreed a new long-term contract with the Premier League club.

BBC Sport revealed on Sunday that the Gunners were set to make a formal offer to Nwaneri this week with the clear direction of travel being the youngster committing his future to the club.

It is understood the new contract is for up to five years.

Sources have indicated the size of the new contract represents Nwaneri's position as one of European football's best young players with the Gunners reflecting his growing status with a new lucrative deal.

Talks over fresh terms have accelerated in recent days amid a will from all parties to reach an agreement.

While the deal has not been formally signed, BBC Sport understands the remaining steps towards Nwaneri putting pen to paper should be a formality.

Cristhian Mosquera in action for ValenciaImage source, Getty Images

Arsenal's impending move for Valencia's Cristhian Mosquera would give Mikel Arteta formidable strength in depth at centre-back.

In addition to the first-choice pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel, the Gunners can also call upon Jakub Kiwior and, while Riccardo Calafiori, Jurrien Timber and Ben White have mainly featured at full-back for the club, all three had plenty of experience in central defence before joining.

Kiwior normally provides cover for fellow left-footer Gabriel and filled in successfully when the Brazil international missed the final eight weeks of last season through injury. Mosquera is therefore initially likely to serve as dedicated back-up for Saliba as the right-sided centre-back.

But one of the advantages to recruiting Mosquera is his ability to play in either channel. The Spaniard's breakthrough campaign was in 2023-24, when 85% of his league minutes for Valencia came as the right-sided centre-back. The following year, the emergence of Cesar Tarrega meant Mosquera was often moved to the left, making 62% of his appearances there.

While Arsenal released the versatile but injury-plagued Takehiro Tomiyasu this summer, the signing of 21-year-old Mosquera should mean the Gunners have more than enough defensive options available.

  10. The case for Maduekepublished at 12:59 11 July

    Your views banner

We asked for your views on why certain Arsenal fans have voiced opposition to the expected signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea.

Here are some of your comments that are more positive on the move:

Andrew: The key word is "online". These people signing petitions aren't Arsenal fans - they live in some parallel fantasy universe on social media where football is viewed like a video game. I'm a season ticket holder and people who go to games believe in Mikel Arteta and trust his judgement because he's usually right. Madueke might not be an exciting signing now, but he could prove to be a very good one. Nico Williams was never coming, Rodrygo is a waste of money, Anthony Gordon is overrated and I don't think this affects Eberechi Eze. We'll see how it all works out.

Andrew: I quite like what I've seen of Madueke. Don't know what all the fuss is about. Think he could be a good acquisition due to his flexibility of being able to play on both flanks.

JR: Personally I think if we had a striker sorted before this, everyone would be happy with Madueke. Seems like a good back-up to Bukayo Saka and it will also make the squad better than last season.

Callum: I get the anger at the fact we are signing another Chelsea player, but the whole thing of signing a petition to make him not sign is embarrassing. When he puts on the shirt, he will be backed. A good player, but high fee and having played for Chelsea has sadly already written him off for most.

Oli: I can see why Arsenal have gone for this, young winger and Andrea Berta probably cares more about strengthening Arsenal than paying a rival. It just hurts to see Chelsea's strategy start to pay off with how much they've gotten out of this deal.

Damo: Madueke is a young player who has undoubted quality and an ability to beat defenders. Not sure what the fuss is about. Good signing in my opinion. Leandro Trossard is decent but is 30 and Gabriel Martinelli isn't progressing.

  11. Why some Arsenal fans don't want Maduekepublished at 12:57 11 July

    Your views banner

Here are some of your comments disapproving of the move:

Steve: It's underwhelming really. A lot of money for a back-up. He won't be a first choice over either Bukayo Saka on the right or Gabriel Martinelli on the left. They should have got a cheaper back-up player and used the excess money to seal the Viktor Gyokeres deal. I think the other thing about this is that some Arsenal fans were hoping to get Rodrygo. This is now not happening as Arsenal don't have the money to spend. Is Madueke the sort of player that will win you the Premier League? No but Rodrygo is, which is why there is disappointment in the ranks at Arsenal.

Martin: It's partly because it's another signing from Chelsea, and previous ones have rarely done well. Also, it is because we haven't made an attacking signing yet, and we'd rather the first one wasn't someone deemed expendable by Chelsea. Madueke isn't worth £50m - never mind what Chelsea want for him.

Nicolas: I can't help but feel a sense of deja vu with the latest transfer rumours. The idea of signing another under-performing Chelsea player, especially at a price north of £50m, feels less like strategic recruitment and more like charity work for their PSR compliance. It's hard to shake the feeling we're being mugged (again), while Chelsea have their feet up, grinning at our generosity. Surely we've learned our lesson by now?

Will: Honestly I reckon over half the fans don't think Madueke is a bad player. Its just the nature of the deal - £50m for a player who is going to sit on the bench behind Saka or look out of place on the left wing seems like poor business - particularly when this feels like a make or break season for major silverware. It's also that the money is going to Chelsea and we are helping our London rivals with their PSR issues.

Gooner07: I don't think it's necessarily that we don't want Madueke at all because he will undoubtedly enhance our squad depth. My frustration is at the fact that for more than a season or so now, it has been clear that we need a striker and so it's not rocket science to decide that a striker should be our absolute priority. So when Sporting reject our offer for Gyokeres asking for an extra £5m or so, and then we decide to open a pursuit for Madueke, using a considerable amount of money that could easily go toward Gyokeres, who is a striker - that's what is frustrating me.

Nigel: It's simple. We always buy players from Chelsea and, with the exception of Jorginho, they've all been rubbish. This is a different level as he has 'beef' with the club after his behaviour last season against us, throwing players around by their necks and the fact he is ex-Spurs says it all. He's not a player we should need or want.

Lorlumun: For me, we already have Nwaneri who's even better in that position than Madueke.

Ali: Because he's a Spurs reject and nothing in his performances to date suggest he will take our team to the next level. No one is excited about signing him, Eberechi Eze has more class and style on the ball and would be preferable. Madueke's return of seven goals in 32 appearances last season is hardly prolific or impressive.

  14. 'A childhood dream I didn't think would be possible'published at 12:27 10 July

Christian Norgaard smiling and signing his Arsenal contractImage source, Getty Images

Christian Norgaard says he will be fulfilling "a childhood dream" when he lines up for Arsenal and hears the Champions League.

The 31-year-old has left Brentford after six seasons and has become Mikel Arteta's latest summer signing.

"You can get almost emotional because maybe it was a dream that I've given a little bit up on coming towards the later stage in my career," said the Denmark international.

"There's always a little chance that a miracle could happen with Brentford, but it was probably unrealistic to play Champions League with them.

"Now, I get to hear the anthem and be a part of a Champions League campaign. It's a childhood dream and something I didn't think would be possible."

On what he can bring to Arsenal with his style of play, he added: "It's developed a little bit over the years. I started as a more offensive player and now I'm a bit more of a holding midfielder.

"It's important for me that a team has a good defensive structure and hopefully I can contribute to that.

"Then coming off a season where I've had a lot of goal involvements, it's something I really hope I can take into this season as well.

"I don't know what the gaffer's plans are with me, but hopefully I can also have some freedom to join the offensive play."

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes Norgaard "will be invaluable" to his current squad because of his proven history in the Premier League.

"He is an international player with a wealth of experience of the Premier League. He has proven leadership skills and a strong character," added Arteta.

"He is a strong midfielder with excellent tactical awareness and versatility. He also has physical presence and intelligence, which will give us added depth and balance."

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Former Arsenal youngster Zac Shuaib is set to sign for Real Sociedad.

The 18-year-old left Arsenal once his contract expired at the end of June and after impressing on trial with the club he is set to join the academy setup in Spain.

The defensive midfielder also had a short trial at Brighton before securing the move to Sociedad.

Arsenal recently completed the signing of Martin Zubimendi from Sociedad's first team and sources say that the Gunners waived any compensation that they would be due from Shuaib leaving to allow him to complete the move to Spain.

The family of Shuaib's mother are Basque and live in the town of Hondarribia. The midfielder grew up spending summers in the region and it was his grandparents' dream he would end up playing for Real Sociedad as the club they support.

Shuaib studied at Eton until he was 16. He has an A-Level in Spanish alongside History and he hopes to complete a third A-Level in politics while at Real Sociedad.

It is also believed he will become the first English player to sign at Real Sociedad within their academy system.
