Burnley coach Vincent Kompany is closing in on a shock move to Bayern Munich after he agreed a deal in principle to join the Bundesliga giants.
BBC Sport understands former Chelsea and Everton coach Frank Lampard would be interested in taking over at Turf Moor should the opportunity arise.
It is believed Kompany has agreed a deal until 2027, with Bayern set to pay £10.2m in compensation.
On Tuesday, the Germany side’s director Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Sky Germany that the “last details” needed to be sorted out for the Belgian’s arrival.
Rummenigge said: “Our sporting director [Max Eberl] has chosen Kompany, it is not yet official but there are only the last details to be sorted out. I am convinced that Kompany will arrive in the end.
“Pep Guardiola spoke to us in a very positive way about Vincent. He had him at [Manchester] City as captain and Pep also followed him when he was at Burnley, so he gave us a good hand."

German football writer Raphael Honigstein has been discussing Bayern Munich's surprise move for Burnley boss Vincent Kompany on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club:
"They said they had him on the list all along but it wouldn't have been on the shortlist - it was a very, very long list.
"As their preferred options kept falling through they changed tact and looked a little bit in a different shelf. He still ticks a lot of boxes in terms of personality and being German speaking.
"A big personality, great character and charisma. The kind of guy that can inspire a dressing room, that can breed the kind of togetherness that has been missing in recent years.
"Bayern feel the second Burnley season is less representative of what he can do with decent players in a different league than the first one. It is a bit of gamble, a bit of risk but when you're low on options it is worth taking that risk."

German football journalist Raphael Honigstein spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club about the potentially reduced expectations on Vincent Kompany if the Burnley manager is appointed by Bayern Munich as Thomas Tuchel's successor.
Honigstein said: "Unlike his predecessors from the past 10 to 11 years, he comes into a Bayern team that finished third [in the Bundesliga], so improving on that is going to be easier than anyone who came in after Jupp Heynckes, who won the treble in 2013.
"For once, Bayern might even prepare to say winning the championship - which is almost seen as a given and the very minimum - will be a big success, because the season was so poor and Kompany is coming in as an inexperienced manager at this level.
"Getting Bayern back to the number one spot, which should be possible considering their resources, has gone from the mere minimum to actually a decent outcome for the season.
"I know coaches often think about improving what their predecessor has done - he's actually in a comfortable position in that respect. Improving this Bayern team should really be possible because of their poor performances, the Champions League notwithstanding last season."

We asked you how you were feeling about the likely departure of Vincent Kompany to Bayern Munich.
Here are some of your replies:
Sam: He has been backed to the hills by the board. We go down because of him being stubborn and refusing to change his ways, then he jumps ship. I can’t see him lasting the season.
Paul: No way could he turn down such a chance. But that said, after getting us relegated, and all the time pointing at the five-year-plan, it leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Stick with me, he was saying, but then he did not stick with us. He gave us the best season ever, then one of the worst. Feelings are confused. I wish him well but I am also quite angry at him.
Keith: Stubborn and naive. Cost Burnley the chance to remain in the Premier League when points deductions to rivals meant it could not have been easier.
Peter: I have nothing but respect for Vinnie. He made mistakes this season but I believe he will be a great manager. No one should blame him for accepting Bayern's offer.
Ian: Shades of Owen Coyle, both in the manner of departure and, an inflated reputation based on one successful season. I hope Vincent Kompany's future career in management doesn't follow the same trajectory!
Alan: Good luck at Bayern and many thanks for leaving Burnley. We can now hopefully get a decent manager who can organise a style of play that utilises the players strengths, rather than a system that simply did not work.
Danny: Kompany gave me one of my best Burnley seasons followed by one of the worst. However, I was willing to stick by him to see if he could deliver again (whilst accepting it would not be as easy), and learn from his mistakes. His legacy has not been tarnished by relegation but by the way he could not wait to jump ship. Yes it is Bayern, but it could be anyone.
Richard: Surprised at Bayern wanting Kompany given the fact he has overseen a relegation, but his style of play may well prove successful with the quality of players he will be working with in Germany. What he did for Burnley in the Championship, assembling a squad that won the league, was unbelievable.

Vincent Kompany has taken charge of 96 games in all competitions for Burnley since his arrival in June 2022.
The Clarets have won 41 of those matches and averaged 1.53 points per game.
In Kompany's debut season at Turf Moor he guided them to promotion from the Championship with a record-breaking tally of 101 points. They won 29 of their 46 matches that season, losing only three times.
But it was to be a different story when they returned to the Premier League.
Burnley won just five matches in their return to the top-flight - losing 24 - and conceded 78 goals in total.

European football expert James Horncastle says he is cautious about Vincent Kompany's link to the vacant Bayern Munich job because of the magnitude of the job.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Euro Leagues podcast, Horncastle said: "Kompany did a fine job at getting Burnley promoted and he has transformed their playing style from what we became accustomed to over the years.
"Yes, they have been relegated, but I do not see that as a failure given the resources and player personnel he had. But I do think Bayern Munich is a big job and sometimes people take these jobs too early.
"Kompany has had experience but this is another level. It has been challenging enough for the top managers, who are more experienced, to control everything there is at Bayern Munich.
"He feels like the fourth or fifth guy on the list and that should also be playing on his mind."

Expert season review: 'A backward step'published at 13:05 23 May 2024

This campaign was clearly a backward step for Burnley, experiencing the ecstasy of promotion to the agony of relegation in the space of 12 months. The Clarets made a poor start by losing five of their first six games and were playing catch-up thereafter and a mini revival late in the season was in vein.
Biggest success for this season?
Sander Berge was probably the standout player with some commanding performances in the middle of the pitch. Goalkeeper James Trafford lost his place in the side to Arijanet Muric but being called up to England’s provisional squad for the Euros can be seen as a measure of success.
Biggest let down or frustration?
A number of Burnley players did not cover themselves in glory, but in truth they were just not up to the level of the Premier League. Belgian winger Mike Tresor was undoubtedly the biggest let down, looking mostly disinterested after coming in from Genk where he won the Jupiler Pro League’s player of year award with 21 assists and eight goals in 34 games.
Key item on the summer agenda?
A sensational development has seen Bayern Munich hold talks with manager Vincent Kompany about becoming their new manager. Managerless Chelsea and Brighton are also interested so the Belgian’s future needs to be resolved and there may well be a hunt for his successor.
Kompany's football philosophy 'quite seductive'published at 10:09 23 May 2024

European football writer Andy Brassell spoke to BBC Sport about Vincent Kompany's potential move to Bayern Munich from Burnley: "It’s a real left-field shout.
"Kompany has been coveted for a while by various European clubs. He did a decent job at Anderlecht, he did a really great job in his first season at Burnley and I think the philosophy of football is really quite seductive to clubs. Clubs have been keeping an eye on him.
"Whether many of those elite clubs thought he was ready now is the question. Really the big question as well is why has Bayern become such an unattractive job? He’s probably the eighth or ninth choice for it."

I thought Burnley might survive but this was a really poor season at Turf Moor after romping to the Championship title in style. A decent transfer budget had little impact.
Manager Vincent Kompany must take responsibility for failing to modify their passing style with inexperienced players when it became clear very early that more pragmatism was needed. He also took too long to replace struggling goalkeeper James Trafford with Arijanet Muric.
Kompany will hope this will all serve as a learning experience in helping the Clarets come back up next season, because this one has been pretty miserable.
Your Burnley player of the season is...published at 17:07 22 May 2024

We asked you to select your Burnley player of the season from the four candidates chosen by our fan contributor.
After voting in your thousands, we can reveal the winner is... Sander Berge!

And here's what Joe Redmond from Turfcast, external had to say about your winner...
"Sander came in at the start of the season and, despite a slow start getting used to his new role and team-mates, was easily the most consistent player throughout the course of our season."
Season rating: 2/10. A score that reflects where we finished in the league. After an incredible Championship campaign, we came into this season with hope and (moderate) expectation. The season has just not been good enough on so many levels.
Happy with your manager? You cannot hire a manager with no Premier League experience and then sack him when he is not good enough in his first season there. So relegation did not equal sacking - but Vincent Kompany does not come out of this season without criticism. He refused to change the system he wanted to be known for playing, even though his players could not play it at this level and it was being easily exploited. And he stubbornly refused to change personnel when it was so obviously needed for a chance of survival.
Unsung hero: Sander Berge has been by far our best player this season and losing him in the summer feels inevitable. Off the field, our medical team should be praised for their work with Lyle Foster on his mental health issue. It is truly incredible he was able to play again this season.
Player you would most like to sign: That depends largely on who we have to sell. On the assumption we need strikers, Sammie Szmodics from our neighbours Blackburn Rovers would be amusing on many levels.
Best away fans: Brighton for travelling in numbers and 250 miles for a game that had nothing riding on it for them. Bravo. Runners-up prize to Luton Town.

Burnley have offered new deals to striker Jay Rodriguez and left-back Charlie Taylor after their relegation to the Championship.
The Clarets, who finished second bottom, had already announced that midfielders Jack Cork and Johann Berg Gudmundsson will be leaving the club this summer upon the expiry of their contracts.
Meanwhile, the one-year options on the contracts of midfielder Josh Brownhill and goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell have been activated.
The club are in talks to make loan deals for full-back Lorenz Assignon and winger Jacob Bruun Larsen into permanent moves, while striker David Datro Fofana returns to Chelsea after joining temporarily in January.
Meanwhile, there could be further upheaval at the club after manager Vincent Kompany emerged as a surprise name on Bayern Munich's list of potential candidates to become their new head coach.
