'I know what it means to be a south Londoner - I will show that pride'published at 16:41 6 September

Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah believes his new club is the "perfect fit" for him and says the move will enable him to "take the next step" in his career.
In his first club interview, external following his transfer from Arsenal, Nketiah explained why he left the Gunners: "I had been there for 11 years, so it was like a home to me. I think Crystal Palace is a wonderful place. I have seen lots of players develop and take the next step in their careers here.
"That is what I want to do. I want to improve, play more minutes, and hopefully help the team as much as I can. I'm really excited for my Selhurst Park debut - hopefully I can make it one to remember.
"I'm going to give my all here. I know what it means to be a south Londoner, so I'm going to show that pride on the pitch every time I step out."
He revealed that England team-mate Eberechi Eze had a hand in bringing him to the club: "I had a few messages from Ebz. He called me a couple of times once he knew it was out there.
"He's had glowing reviews every time I've spoken to him about how he is doing at the club or how he is finding it."
On his new boss Oliver Glasner, Nketiah added: "He is a really amazing manager. He is always positive - wanting to play forward and wanting to be attacking - so it's a really good fit."

The joy and despair of football.
Just the despair.
Some things you wait for.
And others never take long to arrive.
There are awkward moments.
There are planned moments.
Chaotic moments.
Sometimes there are moments of genius.
And, occasionally, the moment just calls for romance.

Palace 'now much stronger' than possibly ever beenpublished at 16:15 5 September

We asked you for your views on how Crystal Palace have started the season - and where you thought they might finish.
Over half of all respondents believe the Eagles will finish between sixth and 10th and your comments suggest supporters are optimistic, despite a difficult opening three games.
Here's a snapshot:
Derek: After over 50 years as a Palace fan, you have to take most of it with a pinch of salt. Oliver Glasner has something that might just take us into Europe but most of all Eagles fans want some silverware.
Al: We are still light in some areas. Cheick Doucoure coming back from long injury is like a new signing and he, Wharton and Jefferson Lerma are a good three to rotate. Eberechi Eze is buzzing but the defence is still inconsistent. Fewer injuries than in the past two seasons will be a bonus so eighth place is achievable, although 10-12th is more likely. Hoping for a cup run and confident under Glasner.
Mark: We need to succeed this season and make Europe. If by December we are looking out of contention, then I fear we will lose players in the January transfer window. If we don't make Europe at the end of the season, they will be gone in the next window. So throw everything in to making this our breakthrough season.
Pete: We're now a much stronger squad than we've possibly ever been! Many of those that never got a game have been replaced by a real competition for places, but alas only in midfield. Michael Olise would be missed by any team, and we're still short for competition in both attacking and defensive wide men. Also, Daniel Munoz is total class, yet hardly gets a mention.
Rich: The transfer window creates so many rumours, mostly clickbait. It was a frustrating window that seemed to start well, three in quickly after losing Olise with money to get reinforcements seeming available. Then it went quiet. No money was spent and big players left with rumours of Marc Guehi leaving. The last day saved face - 7/10.
'I think it is a great move for Nketiah'published at 13:02 5 September

I really enjoyed watching Crystal Place at the back-end of last season because they were exciting. But they have struggled at the start of this season and I am worried about the number of players they have.
There was always going to be talk around Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze moving on because of the performances they were putting out, but I question why they have let Joachim Andersen go. They haven't replaced him, and then they nearly lost Marc Guehi as well.
They have signed Eddie Nketiah, though, which I think is a great move for him. We know he can score goals when given the opportunity.
Nketiah just needed a run of games and he was never going to get that chance at Arsenal. The one-off games weren't showcasing him and his ability, so this season will be good for him as he can really see where he is at.
There is always pressure when you sign from a big Premier League club and it is even greater when you are a striker because you are there to score goals. He will also be putting pressure on himself to succeed and prove that he can be a goal scorer in the Premier League.
It is also important to note that Nketiah will have competition too and won't just walk into the team because Jean-Philippe Mateta is in great form. Oliver Glasner might play two strikers, which is rarely seen in the Premier League, which could be interesting.
The main thing is that Crystal Palace have a great set of fans who will put that arm around Nketiah and if he hits the ground running then he could really become a new fan favourite.

During the transfer window, there had been a chance that the good feeling around Crystal Palace that had built since Oliver Glasner had been in charge could be taken away.
The Eagles sold Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen and it looked as though they were going to lose Marc Guehi to Newcastle in one of the longest transfer sagas of the summer.
However, after the window closed and the final whistle blew at the match against Chelsea, things have started to feel more positive around the Eagles.
Palace have signed seven players. Three of those could be starting centre-backs, one is a new striker who is a goal threat and they have kept both Guehi and Eberechi Eze.
Maxence Lacroix and Eddie Nketiah were signed on deadline day and were unable to play at Stamford Bridge while Trevoh Chalobah is on loan from Chelsea so would have been ineligible anyway. As a result, the squad was thin and they had four youngsters on the bench.
But now the international break allows manager to work with the new signings and means he will have depth going into the match with Leicester.
The Eagles starting line-up could look very different by the time that game comes around and, with another positive result, they could look to replicate their form from the end of the last campaign.

The dust has settled on the transfer window, the Premier League is well and truly back, and we are into the first international break of 2024-25.

Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has withdrawn from the England Under-21 squad.
The 20-year-old was named in the squad four days ago and played the full 90 minutes in Palace’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.
However, after the match Oliver Glasner revealed that Wharton has had "problems in the last weeks".
Wharton did not join up with the squad and it is understood that he has been managing a groin issue and hopes that the international break should help to clear it up.
'The weight of attacking improvements lands solely on Nketiah'published at 12:39 3 September

The transfer window is finally over and, thanks to an Eberechi Eze goal, so is Crystal Palace’s torrid run of defeats against Chelsea - stretching nearly seven years and 14 matches if we include an FA Cup semi-final.
Aided in part, no doubt, by the absence of jettisoned Conor Gallagher, who has seemingly punished the Palace faithful in the past two seasons for simply enjoying his time as a loan player with his three goals. The heart breaks.
Given the disruption to the opening games, there is still a compelling case for closing the transfer window before the first Premier League fixtures.
With the late arrivals of the team, Olivier Glasner’s squad may now seem bottom-heavy. Two centre-half acquisitions, one long-awaited, one surprise, in Maxence Lacroix and Trevoh Chalobah, may ultimately reshape the first-choice trio in defence and leave plenty in reserve.
They will join Palace captain Marc Guehi, who was retained despite continued reports possibly emanating from the North East of England.
Yet, the weight of attacking improvements and expectation lands solely on Eddie Nketiah.
For anyone with lingering doubts about his arrival, driven by analysis or the finances of the deal, the club managed to extinguish them all with his announcement video.
Delightful South London-fuelled propaganda for the ages; it’s clear now that Nketiah was indeed destined for this club, regardless of anything else or previous thoughts held since he was first linked three years ago.
With the much-needed international break underway and the squad finalised, Glasner and his staff must begin the real work of integrating these signings. Thankfully, this will also let us avoid monotonous transfer talk - at least, until January.
Chelsea 1-1 Crystal Palace - the fans' verdictpublished at 12:20 2 September
12:20 2 September
We asked for your thoughts after Sunday's Premier League game between Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
Here are some of your comments:
Chelsea fans
Fossie: Having done so well against Wolves, this result was disappointing. There were the opportunities, but we just couldn't get enough shots at goal. We must learn to do more with the ball in the opposition half, move it quicker, and stretch their defence and then the goals will come.
Paul: Same old Chelsea - chances created but can’t finish. It's going to be a long season. No improvement on last season with millions spent again. Selling Conor Gallagher - the heartbeat of Chelsea - was a huge mistake.
Kwame: Enzo Maresca's changes were poor. How can Joao Felix come on at the left when Christopher Nkunku is there? He even had the audacity to overlook Nkunku again by bringing on Mykhailo Mudryk. We drew because of poor decisions. Noni Madueke also did not help matters for hanging on the ball for too long instead of releasing it. .
Alan: What can I say? Another below-par match with the defence in all kinds of trouble again. Just doesn't seem to get any better. We are still lacking that recognised striker who can put away half chances when Jackson seems to freeze on the ball. Someone within the management must be able to see the two main areas of concern or they are just ignoring it?
Crystal Palace fans
Kev: A promising performance. I feel we should have pushed for the win but it was a decent point away. Looking forward to smashing them at Selhurst when we have the new signings playing.
Bill: Given how many games it's been since we've beaten Chelsea, how they had rinsed Wolves 6-2 last time out, and the fact our new players were unavailable, I expected the worst. However, we showed guts and determination to earn a point. Hopeful of more to come when we can field a full-strength team.
Steve: Slow start as usual and looked more like a Roy Hodgson side at half-time. But, with the Will Hughes to Cheick Doucoure change and a half-time talk from Oliver Glasner, the second half was much better. Dean Henderson was man of the match for a solid keeper performance.
Lee: Good point and very good performance in the second half. Doucoure made a difference while Daniel Munoz and Chris Richards were great. When the new players are bedded in, we should climb the table.

Chelsea 1-1 Crystal Palace - Eze the starpublished at 16:25 1 September

Crystal Palace have made some good signings this summer but one of their biggest results of the window was to keep hold of Eberechi Eze.
The forward was a big player for the Eagles last season and is even more so now after Michael Olise departed for Bayern Munich.
Against Chelsea, he scored a sublime equaliser, with a curled strike that very few goalkeepers would have been able to save. He could have got a winner too but Chelsea threw players in the way of his shot.
The goal was Eze's first of the season but he could easily have had three or four already, having had a goal disallowed and a shot hit the woodwork in previous games.
The second half was a strong performance by Palace and one they can build on as they look to pick up their first win of the season.
Chelsea 1-1 Crystal Palace: What Glasner saidpublished at 16:16 1 September
16:16 1 September
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, speaking to Sky Sports: "Congrats to the team for the performance particularly in the second half. That was really, really good and we scored a fantastic goal. It was a great team performance today and I am very pleased with the point.
"I have such a high respect of this group. I know their character. We had 14 players from the first team squad today with some injuries and the new players arrived on the last day so couldn't play today.
"In this situation it is really amazing how they stick together. I am really proud to be manager of this amazing group."
On Eberechi Eze goal: "In this situation it is very often a goal. He could have had three or four goals already after three games. We know when he gets the ball in this area he can always score. It is just to get him there."
Should Will Hughes have been sent off? "I don't know if he was lucky but it was a very big mistake from myself. My assistant said at half time to take him off but I decided to keep him longer. I am really happy the referee didn't destroy my Sunday.
"He was a little bit late but it was not a terrible foul. I think it was a good decision for the game because otherwise there would have been many yellow cards and we want to see 11 v 11."

Palace, a lot was made about Oliver Glasner coming in last season and the exciting brand of football.
Chelsea are never far away from a crisis and they had everybody scrutinising the way they do the business in the market and their top-heavy squad. But Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer linked up superbly last week.
Palace will be quite expansive but I think that will suit Chelsea.
Chelsea's tails are up, I think they'll down the eagles.
Chalobah checks in at Palacepublished at 09:51 31 August

Crystal Palace have announced the signing of Trevoh Chalobah on a season-long loan from Chelsea.
After coming through the ranks in west London, the 25-year-old defender has made 80 appearances for the Blues including in the Champions League.
He is Palace's seventh signing of the summer, following Chadi Riad, Daichi Kamada, Ismaila Sarr, Maxence Lacroix, Eddie Nketiah and Matt Turner.
"I'm delighted to join an ambitious club like Crystal Palace," Chalobah said. "I know some of the boys in the squad well and I'm looking forward to playing alongside them in front of the amazing support at Selhurst Park.”
Chairman Steve Parish added: “Trevoh is a talented young man and when the opportunity to bring him to Palace for the season arose, we were determined to seize it. I’m delighted that he has joined us on loan, and we believe he will be a great addition."
