    Transfer deadline day graphic

Here's all you need to know about transfer deadline day on Friday...

    When does the window close?

The transfer window will close at 23:00 BST on Friday, 30 August for the Premier League, English Football League and Scotland.

The date was brought forward by the domestic leagues to align with European leagues.

Across Europe, the Bundesliga window will close at 19:00, Ligue 1 at 22:00, La Liga at 22:59 and Serie A at 23:00, but the Saudi Pro League transfer window remains open until 7 September.

Can a Premier League player signed on deadline day play this weekend?

Under league rules, new signings are eligible for the next Premier League game if the club submit the required documents by midday on the last working day before that match.

So any player signed after 12:00 on deadline day would be unable to play in this round of Premier League fixtures.

Where can I see all the confirmed transfer deals on deadline day?

You can find all the deals completed on transfer deadline day within our dedicated confirmed transfers page.

When does the January transfer window open?

Clubs will be able to make transfers again from Wednesday, 1 January until Monday, 3 February at 23:00 GMT. This is the same in Germany, Italy, Spain and France.

How can I follow transfer deadline day on the BBC?

We have this live page dedicated to all the latest transfer news, reaction and analysis.

You will also find regular updates on BBC Radio 5 Live and breaking news across BBC Sport's social media channels, including X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

  2. Chelsea v Crystal Palace - did you know?published at 06:43 30 August

Chelsea have won their past 13 Premier League games against Crystal Palace. Only Manchester City (a current run of 14 against Bournemouth) have ever had a longer winning streak against an opponent in English Football League history.

Noni Madueke scored three goals for Chelsea in their 6-2 win at Wolves last time out. He is the 23rd different player to score a Premier League hat-trick for the club, giving the Blues more different hat-trick scorers than any other side in the competition.

There simply is not enough time for Oliver Glasner and the club to bring in the players to cover all needs.

Starting with the goalkeeper, if Sam Johnstone goes - which is likely - a replacement will be needed. Another striking option has been needed for a while, with Eddie Nketiah fitting the bill.

Elsewhere, Palace need a left wing-back to give Tyrick Mitchell much needed competition, along with another attacking player to try and fill the massive void left by Michael Olise, and a centre-back to replace Joachim Andersen. We expect that to be Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg. Something that may throw a bit of a spanner in the works could be the injury to Chadi Riad in the Carabao Cup, which could end up being a lengthy one.

The concern is that with the departures in the summer of players with expiring contracts and of those sold since, the squad depth just is not there this season so a bout of injuries could hit us hard.

It is expected that the club bring in at least two players, potentially three and they will be sensible signings at that to cover immediate needs.

That is all without taking into account Palace losing any more players in this window, and with all that being considered, I am a firm advocate of the window closing before the season starts. It's been such a big distraction for all involved at the club in recent weeks.

  8. Palace need signings to bring back good feeling published at 16:53 28 August

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport football news reporter

    Expert view

The last couple of days of the window could change the feeling of the season for Crystal Palace.

The end of the last campaign had supporters entering this season filled with positivity and, while it may have been a touch hopeful, thinking about possible European qualification if the team managed to pick up from where it ended last season.

That good feeling is quite far away at the moment. The Eagles have lost both of their opening league games and also waved goodbye to key players in Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen.

Losing Andersen was something of a shock although with the deal in the region of £30m, it is good business. It comes amid continued interest in Marc Guehi from Newcastle and talks about a move for the England centre-back are continuing.

Chairman Steve Parish said he can’t imagine a window where they’d lose both centre-halves but that is a possibility.

Chadi Riad limped out of the win over Norwich in the Carabao Cup and a deal for Maxence Lacroix is not completed yet, meaning the Eagles are very thin at centre-back.

Rob Holding has not played for the club in the Premier League since signing last season and was not in the squad for the win over Norwich.

Palace are hoping to complete the signing of Eddie Nketiah which will add a much needed attacking option as they look to fill the void left by Olise.

Forward Jean Phillipe Mateta is currently unsettled and wants to try to play Champions League football after a run of form that has seen only Erling Haaland (20) score more than Mateta (15) in all competitions since February 24th.

It’s understood that negotiations are ongoing with Mateta but the Eagles cannot afford to lose any more key players before the window closes without some serious acquisitions being made if they want to reach their goals.

  10. When is the Carabao Cup third-round draw?published at 12:20 28 August

Liverpool players celebrate winning the Carabao CupImage source, Getty Images

The draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup will take place on Wednesday at the conclusion of the second-round tie between Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United.

The seven English clubs involved in European competitions this season, including holders Liverpool, will enter at the third-round stage.

Ties will take place on weeks commencing 16 and 23 September.

Because there are rounds of Champions League and Europa League fixtures also scheduled for those two midweeks, the six clubs involved in those competitions - Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Manchester United - will be kept apart to ensure they can fulfil their Carabao Cup tie in the alternate midweek to their European fixture.

Those six clubs will take part in a pre-draw before Forest v Newcastle to decide if they will be at home or away in the third round, with a main draw determining the 16 ties later in the evening.

Should Chelsea progress to the next phase of the Conference League, they will not be in action in that competition again until the start of October.

  11. Crystal Palace 4-0 Norwich - the fans' verdictpublished at 09:16 28 August

We asked for your thoughts after Tuesday's Carabao Cup game between Crystal Palace and Norwich.

Here are some of your comments:

Lee: Better all-round performance. Mateta took his goals very well and there were glimpses of Eze getting back to his best. Guehi and Hughes were superb. Need to add to the squad by Friday.

Gruff: Excellent goal for Kamada, hopefully he’ll build confidence. Very poor first half in general though, with Norwich far the better team. Great goals from Eze and Mateta. Defensively we were poor and Henderson's fantastic saves kept the clean sheet. Hopefully we can build on this and get a result at Chelsea.

Rich: Very average first half. Confidence was still not up. Glasner's half-time talk did the trick and we started to click. Hughes and Guehi stood out first half and Mateta looked like he found his shooting boots second half. Encouraging signs but Riad injury and Guehi worry would only leave Richards at centre-back. We can't lose Marc! And we still need two or three players.

Nigel: We needed the half-time talk by Glasner and responded well. Eze worked hard for his goal and Mateta got his deserved pair to improve his confidence. Henderson made two amazing saves in either half. What is needed now is to keep Guehi and the others in the team that Glasner expected to take us into Europe next year.

Philip: You could see the players confidence increased after each goal but the team still look vulnerable on the break. Hopefully there won't be any further players leaving by the close of the transfer window on Friday.

Freddy: Pretty dominant performance. Individuals looked like they had more confidence. Eze back to his usual self. Kamada looks absolutely class. Mateta didn't play that well but scored a fantastic goal, which should give him confidence. Hopefully the team now push on in the league.

  12. Crystal Palace 4-0 Norwich City: Mateta off the mark in morale-boosting winpublished at 22:59 27 August

After starting the 2024-25 Premier League season with back-to-back defeats, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner will hope Tuesday's comfortable EFL Cup win over Norwich sparks the Eagles' campaign into life.

The home side rode their luck at times against the Championship side but their quality shone through in the end, with striker Jean-Philippe Mateta playing a starring role.

Saturday's loss to West Ham was the first time the Frenchman had failed to score in a home match under Glasner, but he made amends with a superb double against the Canaries.

His first - a spectacular overhead kick from Daichi Kamada's cross - gave Palace a two-goal lead, before a thumping finish from Eberechi Eze's low delivery put Glasner's team out of sight.

Glasner is hoping to secure the signing of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah before the transfer window closes on Friday - but on this evidence, Palace fans can expect another fruitful campaign from the Frenchman.

  14. 'Better than anything we've got' or 'feels like a panic buy'? Fans on Nketiahpublished at 16:05 27 August

    Your views banner

We asked for your views on the news that Crystal Palace were closing in on the signing of Eddie Nketiah in a deal worth £30m from Arsenal, with the striker having been given permission to have his medical at the club.

Here are some of your comments:

Al: He is a top goalscorer in his own head, but has failed to hit any decent level in Championship and Premier League. £25m is an overpay for an average player. Feels like a panic buy.

Dan: If he's being signed as a back-up to Mateta then I'm fine with it. He's an upgrade on Edouard. If the rumours of Mateta heading to Aston Villa are true, and he's our new starting striker, then we'll need to revise that top-half finish aim to a fighting relegation reality.

Bill: He's better than anything we've currently got. I'm not convinced Mateta won't revert back to the form he showed before Glasner arrived and Edouard looks lazy and has poor control. I say we can't do any worse.

James: We need something, and Nketiah is a good player. Still think an attacking midfielder to fully replace Olise would be a better use of the money (gutted to see Smith Rowe already doing well at Fulham), but he will give us options and provide competition for the other strikers. I am worried about Mateta's stamina after a long summer at the Olympics.

Oliver: Great move for Palace but also for Nketiah's career. He hasn't been given the playing time he deserves at Arsenal but I think he has the potential to be one of the best playing every week at Palace - as long as he bucks the trend and stays instead of finding form and leaving like Olise and Wan-Bissaka both did.

Rich: Nketiah is an exciting signing. He has looked good when he has had a chance at Arsenal, and given a good run of games he could soon be our number one choice, as Mateta and Édouard do not seem to be firing in the early part of this season. Add Raheem Sterling to our frontline and it could make another exciting three with Eze. Next few days are vital to get in centre-backs as well.

Stephen: The team was well balanced and on a roll. Then we sell one of best playmakers for £45m and buy his replacement, who is yet to fit in, for £30m-plus.

  15. Nketiah medical given go-aheadpublished at 15:23 27 August

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport football news reporter

    Eddie NketiahImage source, Getty Images

We reported earlier that Eddie Nketiah is close to joining Crystal Palace and a deal for the Arsenal frontman is getting even closer to being done.

The deal is worth up to £30m and believed to be £25m upfront with £5m in add-ons.

Arsenal have given permission to Nketiah to do his medical with the Eagles and it is understood that agreeing personal terms for the England international will not be a problem.

  16. 'Better to appreciate players you enjoyed rather than mourn the ending'published at 12:40 27 August

    Alex Pewter
    Fan writer

    Crystal Palace fan's voice banner

Last week, Crystal Palace said goodbye to two important squad members.

There is a colder analytical response to such departures: to applaud the transfer fees received or dismiss the moves as part of modern squad building and PSR regulations.

That mentality is, of course, valid but hardly a romantic view of the game.

The Palace beginnings of Joachim Andersen and Jordan Ayew were stark opposites. The Dane was a high-profile acquisition from Lyon, the crowning transfer in a vital summer rebuild in 2021. The Ghanaian, a loan signing in 2018 to little fanfare, joining on a low-cost permanent move a year later.

Palace had landed a modern centre-back in Andersen, possibly unlike any to grace Selhurst Park in home colours. No player is without flaws, but the ease with which he distributed the ball from the back and switched play made it easy to stand back and admire.

There is often anger or disappointment when a favoured player exits the club. Yet, much like with Michael Olise leaving earlier in the summer, it’s better to appreciate the players you got to enjoy for the time you did rather than mourn the ending.

If Joachim was individually one of the greatest centre-halves to play for Palace, then the fact he arrived in the same summer and formed a formidable partnership with Marc Guehi was only a greater stroke of fortune.

With Ayew few would have predicted he would surpass a double century of appearances on his initial arrival.

It’s unlikely any Crystal Palace fan hasn’t been guilty of airing some frustration or criticism in the direction of him. However, that has been part of his story at the club. An individual who has often been derided for his shortcomings rather than lauded for his many strengths.

Versatile and a noted favourite of every coach he played under, Jordan took up whichever role he was tasked with. His nine goals in the 2019-20 season as a centre forward all but saved the club from a deserved relegation.

Last season, once again in a depleted side, he was one of the few attacking highlights pre-Glasner as the club battled for points. Fortunately, by his final season, the tide of opinions had turned in his favour.

Crystal Palace are closing in on the signing of Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal in a deal believed to be worth £30m.

It is expected the deal for the 25-year-old will be structured with an initial payment of £25m plus £5m in add ons.

Nketiah has scored 38 goals in 168 games for the Gunners and his current contract runs until 2027.

What do you make of the deal, Palace fans? Is he the type of player you need?
