We asked for your thoughts after Wednesday's Premier League game between Leicester and Crystal Palace.

Here are some of your comments:

    Leicester fans:

James: First half was decent with good chances, but so we were wasteful and the build-up all too slow to really hurt the opposition. Second half? May as well have just given the win to Palace with so little of note to report.

Gerry: It is difficult to know what goes through the minds of the players in such games? Lack of confidence or belief in their abilities? We need to move the ball forward more, passing it back creates that negativity we need to rid of and that would create more chances and utilise players like Jamie Vardy.

Steve: Same old problems continue to bring us down. No clue how to mark in defence and too slow all over the pitch, plus zero control in midfield. Embarassingly easy for Palace.

Matt: You can't expect to survive with home defeats by teams in and around the relegation zone. Big damage was done losing 3-0 to Wolves and last night's loss sadly further damages our survival hopes. The squad is not at the level - not directly their fault but poor recruitment over previous years has come to fruition.

    Crystal Palace fans:

Paul: Palace got the job done, but I am worried that Eberechi Eze wasn't as influential as he should be. He seemed to pause too long on the ball and was not instinctive enough. There were lot of misplaced passes. A shame about Trevoh Chalobah but our defense is still mean though.

Stanis: Another hard-fought win against the teams around us, which has been the Palace way ever since we got promoted. Ismaila Sarr and Will Hughes put in another great shift. The free-flowing football from the end of last season will return once Adam Wharton is back match fit.

Jerry: A poor start by Palace who gave the ball away too easily and helped make Leicester look the better side in the first half. I'm guessing Glasner spoke his mind at half-time and they improved and looked dangerous on the break. A hard-working three points and hopefully less pressure on the team for their next match at West Ham.

Leslie: A thoroughly deserved win. Not pretty but the defence was controlled in excellent fashion. Maxence Lacroix was exceptional.

  2. Crystal Palace unlikely to replace recalled Chalobahpublished at 11:49 16 January

Crystal Palace are unlikely to sign another centre-back after defender Trevoh Chalobah was recalled by Chelsea.

On Wednesday, the Blues used their recall option to end Chalobah's loan deal with the Eagles and he returned to his parent club.

Chris Richards stepped into the side on the right side of the Eagles back three for the victory over Leicester City in the Premier League with summer signing Chadi Riad on the bench.

Riad has been out for large parts of this season but has been building up his fitness playing for the under-21 side and managed 90 minutes in the FA Cup victory over Stockport County when Chalobah was unavailable due to 'contractual issues'.

Sources indicate that, with Riad returning from injury and Richards available too, the club feel that they have enough in the squad to be covered for the rest of the season.

The plan for this window was to sign an attacker and a left wing-back to bolster Oliver Glasner's squad and Palace are close to signing Millwall forward Romain Esse.

Esse was left out of the Lions victory over Dagenham & Redbridge with head coach Alex Neil acknowledging a deal with Palace was progressing.

  3. 'There were a few choice words at half-time'published at 10:37 16 January

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner speaks to his playersImage source, PA Media

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner said in his post-match interviews that he was far from happy with his side's first-half performance at Leicester on Wednesday.

But, after some "choice words" at the interval, the Eagles were able to complete a 2-0 victory.

"There were a few choice words [from the manager] at half-time," midfielder Will Hughes told club media., external "We weren't at the races and were lucky to get in at 0-0 at half-time.

"But that is always a blessing when you're not really playing too well. And then obviously there was a reaction in the second half, I think we thought we deserved it in the end.

"It shows the character of the team and that we can do it, but we need to be more consistent."

  4. 'We have to be critical of our performance' - Glasnerpublished at 23:22 15 January

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I don't think so. We are pleased with the three points and the clean sheet.

"We have to be critical of our performance in the first half. It was a little bit louder in the dressing room and the players showed a good reaction. We have to improve our performance.

"We were more aggressive. I told the players and showed them clips about tactical adjustments. We were just jogging about the pitch and this is what we showed them. We did it better in the second half but still not our top level. We can't be happy with the performance in the first half.

"The whole situation was great. In this situation, Sarr was in the right position and we need runs in behind. First half we didn't have anyone in behind. We know when Mateta gets the ball in the box, it's very often a goal.

"We had the worst start in the Premier League history of Crystal Palace and now it's the opposite. We are always humble. We are compact in our shape most of the time but we need to improve our performance and reduce our easy mistakes."

This was far from spectacular from Crystal Palace but it was a professional performance.

They have lost just one of their past 10 Premier League games (W4 D5) and their current six-match unbeaten run away from home (W3 D3) the club's longest in the top-flight since February 1992.

They are solid at the back - superbly led by Marc Guehi - while Ismaila Sarr seems to be growing in confidence with every game and the free-kick that set up Guehi's goal was a reminder of Eberechi Eze's quality.

Their top-flight safety is far from secure but the second half of the season is likely to be spent looking at how high up the table they can finish, rather than looking down.

  6. 'We've got a really good squad'published at 22:12 15 January

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, speaking to TNT Sports about Jean-Philippe Mateta: "He's been fantastic. He trains first class every day. We've got a really good squad and I'm so happy."

On his goal: "That one wasn't actually planned, it was off the cuff. We practice set-pieces a lot but that one was just instinctive. Eze has the quality to deliver."

Defender Chris Richards, speaking to the world feed: "We've had a few sicknesses the last few weeks but it's no excuse. We're very determined and we're a team that plays for each other. Every time we step on the pitch, we want the three points.

"At half-time, we were very disappointed with ourselves but it was probably the worst half we've played all season."

On Trevoh Chalobah being recalled by Chelsea: "We've had good players and even better people and Trevoh is one of those people. He will be missed."

  8. Sutton's predictions: Leicester City v Crystal Palacepublished at 09:47 15 January

    Sutton's predictions graphic

Leicester enjoyed a big win in the FA Cup but they are on a run of five successive defeats in the league and it feels like they have got to get something from this game.

It will not be easy for the Foxes. Crystal Palace have been much improved in the past few weeks and have built a bit of momentum after only losing one of their past nine league games.

I definitely do not see the Eagles losing this and although it will be tight, they are the team who I think will find a way of winning it, probably through Jean-Philippe Mateta.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-2

  9. Glasner on illness and injuries, Devenny deal and Chalobah latestpublished at 16:05 14 January

    Nicola Pearson
    BBC Sport journalist

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has been speaking to the media before Wednesday's Premier League game against Leicester City (kick-off 19:30 GMT).

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

    • After a recent outbreak of illness in the squad, Glasner confirmed that "the flu is gone fortunately, so all the players who were ill [last week] are now available", including Jean-Philippe Mateta, Maxence Lacroix and Tyrick Mitchell.

    • He also confirmed Will Hughes "has trained two days with us" and will be included on Wednesday, but fellow midfielder Adam Wharton will not be available.

    • The Eagles boss added: "[Wharton] is making progress. Everything is going in the right direction and I expect him back training with the team, maybe by the end of January, but probably the beginning of February."

    • On the news that midfielder Justin Devenny has signed a new two-year contract: "Very positive signal. A player from academy doing really well, has played many more minutes with us, he deserved this new contract. He is doing well, working very hard, is a very good talent. It is a win-win for the club extending contract of an academy player and a good chance for him to get more minutes."

    • On whether there was any update on Trevoh Chalobah's situation after he was left out of the FA Cup team due to contractual issues: "I didn't see him today so can't tell you anything."

    • He added: "It's a little bit of a tricky situation. Chelsea has the possibility to call him back from loan. There is a little bit of uncertainty at the moment over whether they will do it. We need clarity and he needs clarity, so that's the situation and let's see. He wants to stay here but it's a decision Chelsea can take. He is performing very well for us and has high standing in our locker room."

    • Glasner acknowledged a number of players were not in the team when they last faced Leicester, adding: "Back then, we had players not being in their best shape after a very short pre-season - starting with two defeats, their self-confidence wasn't here. I think we're in a much better situation and shape now, the players know how we want to play and what we want to do."

    • The Palace boss said they "don't care" if they play home or away, they "always enter the game with the same mindset, which is going and winning". He continued: "We don't care about the circumstances, whether it's rainy or not, if it's windy or not, if it's cold or not. If we play at home or away, we can't influence that. We always focus only on the things we can influence."

  10. Devenny signs new Palace contractpublished at 12:21 14 January

Crystal Palace midfielder Justin Devenny has signed a new contract with the club until 2027.

The 21-year-old has played 10 times for the club after making his debut against Fulham in November 2024 and has scored one goal - against Aston Villa in his second appearance.

Speaking of his new deal, the Northern Ireland international said: "I'm absolutely delighted!

"It's just another step in my career and like every step there's an opportunity and I'm grateful to have it. It's a new step, so a new time to work hard, a new learning experience and a new time to show everyone what I can do."

Millwall winger Romain Esse's move to Crystal Palace is edging closer, according to Lions boss Alex Neil.

"There wasn't an issue," Neil said when asked if an injury ruled the 19-year-old out of their 3-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Cup third round on Monday.

"Crystal Palace have shown a lot of interest in Romain. I didn't make him available for the game and I think the situation is progressing and what I wouldn't do is put that at risk at this stage.

"If that changes then Romain will be back in the squad."

When asked if Esse's proposed move to Palace was more likely than it had been last week, Neil added: "Yeah, I think that's fair to say."

He has scored five goals and provided one assist in 25 games in all competitions for Millwall this season.

  12. Will 'one-dimensional attack' get Esse spark?published at 08:13 14 January

It appears that illness was mainly in the air at Copers Cope this week rather than the magic of the cup, giving manager Oliver Glasner a fresh challenge in preparing for Saturday's FA Cup game.

His side survived a relatively tepid 1-0 affair against Stockport County in the third round and have now secured a tie against Doncaster Rovers – the 'Rob Street' derby for those who know.

Of course, the Premier League is unwilling to give the world's leading and historic domestic cup competition any breathing room in the schedule, which means Palace face a pair of league games in four days against two struggling sides, Leicester and West Ham.

While those matches may offer large league ramifications, we are reminded that we are already at the mid-point in the transfer window, another plate that teams must keep spinning during January against the backdrop of games.

One player is on the immediate horizon for Palace, with 19-year-old winger Romain Esse the likely acquisition from Millwall. He will be a much-needed reinforcement in a position of need, even if that may come with added pressure to be the one that sparks life into an often one-dimensional attack.

Glasner had been hoping that any attacking incoming transfer would also be joined by a returning Matheus Franca from injury, perhaps a 'new signing' in the cliched football sense, if not factual. The young Brazilian has not featured in a Palace squad since Glasner's second game in charge back at the start of March 2023.

Repeated injuries have raised red flags about his future, and with no expectation he will be with the team until the spring, this is the next in a series of disappointing setbacks for the former Flamengo player.

  13. 'Contractual issue' - Glasner explains reason for Chalobah absencepublished at 18:40 13 January

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Oliver Glasner has explained why a "contractual issue" meant Trevoh Chalobah was left out of the FA Cup third round match with Stockport County.

The Palace manager says Chalobah was going to start the tie at Selhurst Park and the centre back was pictured at the stadium.

The Eagles only named eight substitutes on the bench and Chalobah was not included in the squad.

"It's not easy to explain," Glasner said.

"It was a contractual issue – we had to take care. This is why he didn't play. I'm not a lawyer, but I was told that in this round, it was better for him not to play.

"I found out yesterday evening. It was internal [there was no contact from Chelsea]."

There has been speculation around Chalobah's future with his parent club Chelsea having a recall option on the defender.

"I know he wants to stay and we want [him to stay at the club], but there is still 19 days to go in the transfer window," Glasner said.

"I want this squad to stay together. I know Trevoh [Chalobah] and Marc [Guehi] want to stay – these are the main [talking points] in the last days.

"Trevoh is expected to be available at Leicester on Wednesday."

  14. Crystal Palace 1-0 Stockport - the fans' verdictpublished at 11:57 13 January

Eberechi Eze scores for NewcastleImage source, Getty Images

We asked for your thoughts after Sunday's FA Cup game between Crystal Palace and Stockport County.

Here are some of your comments:

Jerry: Pretty uninspiring stuff to be honest. Eberechi Eze got us off to a great start, but despite controlling the first half, we really played it too safe and didn't look to pass forward enough. In the second half, we were too sloppy. Credit to County. They kept their shape, but didn't really trouble us. Good turnout by their fans.

Peter: It was one of those games that if Stockport had scored I think Palace would have scored again. Daichi Kamada played well. The defence looked very sloppy but into the next round is what matters.

Al: Same old story of being unable to finish. Eddie Nketiah is firing blanks and all our good work is being ruined by poor frontline play. A striker is needed - not a wide right player from Millwall.

Rich: Absolute brilliant start and great goal from Eze. I thought we were in for a treat. I don't know why? Really disappointing performance, no imagination, trickery. Was that down to Stockport, no, I don't think so. Poor defending, nonexistent striking force and once again no goals from midfield or skill. Kamada found his level! Some not! A win is good but not many positives going forward.
