  1. Fulham 0-1 Manchester United: What Silva saidpublished at 15:01 4 November 2023

Fulham boss Marco Silva, speaking to MOTD: "It is difficult to believe but the reality is it did happen again against us. It is something we clearly have to sort out, we have to keep the emotional control to the end of the match.

"It was a very good game from ourselves. A balanced game but we had a very good second half.

"You have to be clear on the game until the last minute.

"We have to be more assertive and much more ruthless in these types of moments because we had clear chances to score. They had one dangerous cross in the second half, after that they didn't have anything.

"We played well, we put them under pressure, we were on the front foot. Our second half performance was a very good level but we go with this feeling again where we played well but didn't get anything from the game."

On Rodrigo Muniz injury: "He had a very good game. He is a boy that is growing. He is showing to me he is ready to fight for the position. The way he holds the ball, the way he connects, he will help us and I hope the injury is not too serious."

Bruno Fernandes scored a 91st-minute winner against Fulham to alleviate the pressure on Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

United looked to be heading for another game without a win or a goal when Fernandes drilled low past Bernd Leno.

In a poor game of few chances, Scott McTominay thought he had given the visitors an eighth-minute lead but it was ruled out for offside after referee John Brooks viewed it on the pitchside monitor.

Fernandes, before his winner, forced Bernd Leno into an acrobatic save while Andre Onana made two saves to deny Harry Wilson and Joao Palhinha.

  4. Fulham v Manchester United: Sutton's predictionspublished at 11:08 4 November 2023

    Sutton's Predictions image

Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches again this season, against a variety of guests.

This week, he takes on singer-songwriter Willie J Healey, who is a Chelsea fan.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1

You cannot blame Manchester United's owners for their team's poor form - their players are not thinking about any boardroom uncertainty when they are out on the pitch.

Erik ten Hag has spent £411m on players since he took charge at Old Trafford before the start of last season and, for that amount of money, the team should be doing far better than they are.

I like Ten Hag - he seems a decent man and he did well last season - but he is under serious pressure now. 'Erik ten games' is what I called him last week, and that was being optimistic.

United won at Craven Cottage in November last year, but that was the only win they managed in London under Ten Hag in seven attempts in 2022-23, and they have already lost twice in the capital in the current campaign.

All things considered, I should really predict another United defeat, shouldn't I? There is nothing whatsoever that tells me to back them.

But, with regards to Fulham, they don't appear to be quite at the same level they were at last year, especially in attack. That's the only reason I am going for a draw.

Next up for United is a midweek trip to FC Copenhagen in the Champions League, and then Luton come to Old Trafford next weekend.

Including this game, you would normally expect United to put all three of these teams away. If the results don't go to plan, this is where things could really start to unravel for Ten Hag.

    Willie's prediction: 1-1

I changed my mind on this one a couple of times. United are in a bit of a lull and Fulham have been playing pretty well, especially at Craven Cottage, so a home win might be what most people might go for.

At the same time, though, this feels like a game where United could play pretty badly but still somehow get a win over the line... so, maybe I should play safe and go for a draw.

  5. Silva on selection headache, fans and writing 'a different story' against Man Utdpublished at 14:27 3 November 2023

Marco Silva has been speaking to the media before Fulham's Premier League game against Manchester United on Saturday.

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

    • On injuries, he said: "Kenny Tete, Tosin and Adama [Traore] are in the last steps of their recovery. I’m going to make a decision on whether they will be involved in the squad."

    • After his goal against Ipswich in the Carabao Cup, Silva said Rodrigo Muniz has given him "a selection headache, 100% sure" and added: "We are analysing in training every single day and he’s doing really well."

    • He said fans can play their part in helping the team secure back-to-back wins: "We want the Cottage to be bouncing from the first minute because the fan support can help us get the result. We need them to push the team forward."

    • After losing all three games against Erik ten Hag's side last season, Silva said: ""I believe that performance-wise we were the better team but we lost. We want to write a different story this season."

    • On Rebecca Welch becoming the first female fourth official in a Premier League match: "Many people will look at it as the first time, the spotlight will be there, but it’s a normal situation for us. It’s something good for football."

  8. 'Muniz is always a candidate' - Silva praises strikerpublished at 07:49 2 November 2023

Marco Silva has challenged Rodrigo Muniz to become Fulham's first-choice striker after his goal against Ipswich in Wednesday's Carabao Cup win.

In his seventh appearance of the season, the 22-year-old scored his first Fulham goal since January 2022 and Silva said he could force his way into his starting line-up for Saturday's game against Manchester United.

"He is always a candidate and he had a very good pre-season," Silva said.

"Unfortunately in the moment he was showing his quality, - even if last season was tough for him - he had a muscle injury and it stopped his development a little bit in pre-season.

"He came back and had a very good game against Tottenham in the first Carabao Cup match we have and he is taking his chances. So, he is always a candidate like the others, like Raul [Jimenez] and Carlos Vinicius.

"They are fighting for the position. We don't have a number one, two or three. It is for me to decide for each game regarding the strategy and what I want from the game. It is up to them to show the quality they have and to show they are able to play.

"Rodrigo did really well. Let's see what will be my decision for the next match."

  9. Analysis: Ipswich Town 1-3 Fulhampublished at 00:05 2 November 2023

    Michael Emons, BBC Sport

An away League Cup last-16 tie against a team second in the Championship looked to be a tough task, but Fulham swept past Ipswich Town to match their best ever run in the competition.

The hosts changed their entire starting 11 from their last match and Marco Silva's side, who made eight changes themselves, took advantage through Harry Wilson's ninth-minute goal to give the Cottagers a lead they never looked like losing.

Fode Ballo-Toure and Calvin Bassey both hit the woodwork before Fulham doubled their lead with a goal from Rodrigo Muniz.

Ipswich had fought back from 2-0 down to eliminate Premier League Wolves in round three but a repeat never looked likely at Portman Road.

Tom Cairney added a third although Silva will be annoyed at the goal they conceded late on - substitute Elkan Baggott given too much space to head in a consolation for the home side.

Fulham are away at Everton in the next round just before Christmas and will be confident of winning and moving into the semi-finals of the League Cup for the first time.
