  1. Game of the weekend: Hibs v Heartspublished at 09:51 28 February

    Prem picks

After horrendous starts to the league season, Hibs stuck by their head coach while rivals Hearts changed theirs. Both strategies appear to have worked.

When the sides drew 1-1 at Easter Road in October, three games after Neil Critchley succeeded the sacked Steven Naismith, they remained tied on points at the foot of the table, with Hibs bottom on goal difference.

Few at the time would have fancied the chances of either finishing the season in third place.

After Hibs won 2-1 at Tynecastle on Boxing Day, Hearts were still stuck in second bottom, while the visitors' win merely lifted them five points clear of the relegation play-off spot, albeit up to seventh.

However, Sunday's derby has switched from being a relegation dogfight into a race to secure a place in the top half, with Hibs having moved up to fourth and Hearts to sixth - for the first time since August - after both enjoyed 3-1 wins in midweek.

Indeed, both will have their sights set firmly on catching an Aberdeen side who have regained third spot after ending a dismal spell of their own but suffered a 5-1 thumping away to leaders Celtic on Tuesday.

Hearts, though, can ill-afford to slip up this time as they head to the other side of Edinburgh Castle, considering they are four points behind Hibs and Dundee United - and a further point adrift of the Dons.

Critchley's side have suffered just one defeat - to second-top Rangers - in 12 outings and are seven unbeaten on the road.

However, David Gray's hosts are on an even more impressive unbeaten run of 14, winning 10 of them, eight of those at Easter Road.

A derby cracker would appear assured after Hibs and Hearts displayed their new-found resilience by coming back from a goal down to beat United and St Mirren, respectively, on Wednesday.

With seven goals in eight games since arriving on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise, striker Elton Kabangu has been instrumental in Hearts' mid-season push and will provide a stern test for the defensive stability that has been the foundation of Hibs' own recovery.

Hibernian have secured an allocation of "up to 7,000 tickets" for their Scottish Cup quarter-final visit to Celtic.

The Easter Road side sold an initial batch of 2,667 for the 9 March tie within five days.

On requesting a bigger share of the match gate during "long discussions", Hibs say they were referred to the Scottish FA handbook, which states "the away club shall be responsible for payment to the home club for all tickets delivered."

A statement confirming the large increase acknowledges the "financial risk" involved and "understanding the demand from our supporters".

Hibs go on to say a general sale will go ahead on a date that is "dependant on when we receive the tickets from Celtic".

  3. Bowie boost as in-form Hibs chase European spotpublished at 17:59 27 February

'What about the finish from Bowie'

While Hibs have scored the third-highest number of goals in the Premiership, they have lacked a consistent threat at the top end of the park.

Mykola Kuharevich has flattered to deceive in his second spell at the club, while 35-year-old Dwight Gayle admitted his "body's breaking down" and has spoken of this being his farewell campaign.

There is a shirt to be claimed up front and, with the league race entering the final straight, head coach David Gray might have found his man - Kieron Bowie.

The 22-year-old arrived last summer and made four substitute appearances, scoring once, before getting injured on Scotland Under-21 duty, much to the annoyance of Hibs fans.

They'd seen enough in that short spell to convince them the former Fulham forward could have a big season and now he's finally back fit, he's gone about proving them right.

In one of his first games back, he flicked on a throw-in for Rocky Bushiri to head in the winner against Ayr United and put them through the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.

Bowie then made his first start in last weekend's 2-1 win over Celtic. He was an absolute pest to the champions' defence, winning four fouls and battling in 19 total duels, 10 of which were in the air.

Not yet fit enough to start two games in four days, he came off the bench against Dundee United to put Hibs ahead in the 90th minute, before fellow sub Junior Hoilett made sure of the win deep into stoppage time.

It was a fantastic finish too, running on to Nectar Triantis' through ball, sliding to get the shot away, and lashing it into the top corner with venom.

Could Sunday's Edinburgh derby be the perfect stage for Bowie to properly announce himself as Hibs aim to extend a 14-game unbeaten streak?

Of course, Kuharevich also got on the scoresheet against United, with a fine back-post header that levelled the scores at Tannadice. The Ukrainian has just four goals in 14 starts this season and Wednesday night was his first league start since November.

Gayle, who scored the winner at Tynecastle in the Boxing Day derby, also has just four goals, with his last strike coming against St Johnstone on 2 January.

Gray is sure to be tempted to partner Bowie with current captain and top marksman Martin Boyle (seven goals) after their impressive showing at home to Celtic but has mixed and matched his options well during this impressive run.

  4. 'Fight and resilience in this team is amazing'published at 11:50 27 February

    Your views

We asked for your thoughts on the 3-1 win over Dundee United that sent Hibs fourth in the Premiership.

Here's what some of you said:

Kenny: Was scrappy at times but we defended well again. David Gray got the subs on at the right time and that lifted the team again, and it was no surprise when we scored. A great goal from Kieron Bowie and then another from Junior Hoilett to seal it. Another great result.

FM: Good to see Bowie showing his class, but got to wonder about the 16 points we've lost from winning positions throughout the season. Would've had a real chance for a top-two finish.

John: Fantastic result and will admit I didn't see it coming the way we were playing. All I can say is thank you Hibernian for proving me wrong. The derby on Sunday should be a cracker as both teams are on form at the moment.

Andy: What a finish. Admittedly, we have benefitted from VAR decisions in the last two games, both of which have resulted in wins. However, the fight and resilience in this team is amazing. I love watching them. Being in the away end with the last-minute winner was electric, and we can now head into the derby full of confidence.

Sandy: There are new Hibs heroes born every match these days. Tonight it was the turn of Bowie and Hoilett. This win was a hard-won 3-1, but gives us a much-deserved fourth place. There's a climate change at Easter Road - the new Tornadoes perhaps?

Michael: A superb away performance. Defended really well and looked dangerous on the counter. Very pleased for all three goal scorers as they were all needing a goal. Thought Nathan Moriah-Welsh was excellent in midfield and Mykola Kuharevich had his best game this season. Bring on the Jambos!

Hibernian head coach David Gray: "A huge three points, especially when we haven't played at our best.

"It was always going to be difficult after the magnitude of the win over Celtic and the effort that went into that.

"The subs made a massive impact and I'm delighted for them. Then you saw the scenes at the end, even the ones that didn't play. That squad togetherness is there.

"Kieron (Bowie) has come back even stronger than he was before his injury and I'm delighted all that work has paid off. He took his goal exceptionally well.

"It keeps the momentum going and now we focus on chasing Aberdeen down."

This was a match the Hibs of the first half of the season - who at one point were rock bottom of the Premiership - would have lost.

In fact, they did lose late on against United in October, with Joe Newell's red card eventually leading to the concession of two goals in stoppage time.

Now they carry a potent threat up front and have cultured players in the middle of the park, with Nectarios Triantis at the heart of much of their good work, sliding through a brilliant pass for Bowie to effectively win it.

David Gray's side are far more resilient in defence as well, with the back three of Jack Iredale, Rocky Bushiri and Warren O'Hora looking solid.

On this form, and with this momentum, Hibs will strongly fancy their chances of overtaking Aberdeen, now just one point in front, and finishing third.

Their only defeat in their last 17 games was against leaders Celtic, and they even managed to get the better of them at the weekend.

Next up, rivals Hearts at Easter Road on Sunday.

  12. How potentially tricky Hibs agm turned to buoyant moodpublished at 14:34 26 February

    Brian McLauchlin
    BBC Sport Scotland Senior Reporter

    Behind the mic

When Hibernian recently announced losses of £7.2m in their annual accounts it rocked supporters and shareholders.

It is an astonishing loss. Just how can a club with an income of around £15m go so far over budget?

At Tuesday night's annual general meeting in the Famous Five Stand, around 200 shareholders gathered to ask key questions of the board.

New finance director Philippa Lombardi gave an impressive presentation, pointing out areas where money had been spent and admitting mistakes had been made, saying under her watch this won't happen again.

And when Ian Gordon confirmed his family were underwriting these losses and the cash would be offered as a donation it put everyone in the room at ease.

Gordon also gave an impressive presentation about the vision moving forward and how the partnership with Bill Foley and his Black Knight organisation can bring success to the club both on and off the park.

The most important aspect of any football club is what happens on the pitch and sporting director Malky Mackay showed those in attendance the plans to make Hibs a real force again in Scottish football and beyond.

So what could have been a tricky night for those on the board turned into one where the vast majority of shareholders left the room in buoyant mood.

They have undoubtedly been helped by the team's form, with the victory against Celtic fresh in everyone's minds and Hibs having gone 13 games undefeated.

  13. 'We live and breathe this club' - Gordons committed to Hibs long termpublished at 14:14 26 February

Ian Gordon at the Hibernian AGMImage source, SNS

Hibernian executive director Ian Gordon says his family's emotional connection to the club means they are financially committed for the long haul.

At the club's agm on Tuesday, Gordon told around 200 shareholders his family will absorb Hibs' £7.2m losses this year.

Ian's father Ron became Hibs' majority shareholder in 2019 and although he died in 2023, the Gordon family remain owners with Ian and mother Kit on the board.

"I think there's such an emotional side to it now," Ian said. "Our family, we love this club. We live and breathe this club and my father felt that same way.

"And obviously through the passing of my dad, we felt that it was the right thing to do to continue this.

"I'm still a young guy, and my brother and I are wanting to carry the torch for my father. We love everything about this club and my mom, so it's something we're fully committed to."

Ian says the Gordon family's experience along with advice from Bournemouth owner Bill Foley and his Black Knight consortium - who invested in the club in March 2024 - will help them better manage finances moving forward.

Black Knight director Tim Bezbatchenko was alongside Gordon at the AGM.

"We know mistakes have been made," Gordon said.

"But we've learned so many lessons along that way, with the guidance of someone like Tim (from Black Knight) to help mentor me, but also help us make better decisions moving forward. I think we're in a really good spot."

    BBC Sport Scotland

    Hibs players celebrateImage source, SNS

David Gray has warned Hibs against complacency after they took Celtic's scalp to extend their unbeaten run to 13 matches.

Hibs are aiming to continue their remarkable revival by leapfrogging Dundee United in fourth place with victory at Tannadice on Wednesday evening.

"The players are in a real good place," head coach Gray said.

"They're enjoying training and coming in with a smile on their face. There's no better feeling as a player than winning games and confidence and momentum is high but at the same time you're always guarding against not getting complacent.

"We see the other results at the weekend and it ended up being a huge three points for us and now we have the chance to catch the team above us."

Gray is expecting a difficult test at Tannadice, where his side conceded twice in injury time to lose 3-2 on their previous visit this season.

"Dundee United away will be a real tough game but if we win we go above them so that's all that's on the players' minds at the minute," he added.

"Jim [Goodwin] has done an incredible job for a newly-promoted side. They started the season incredibly well but they've continued that momentum.

"They are where they are in the league for a reason but all we are thinking about is that if we beat them we go above them in the table and we are going up there in a much better place than we were previously."

  17. Gray on beating Celtic, McGrath deal & Newell injury blowpublished at 15:40 25 February

    Charlotte Cohen
    BBC Sport Scotland

    David GrayImage source, SNS

Hibs boss David Gray has been speaking to the media as his side prepare to face Dundee United on Wednesday night.

    Here are the main points:

    • Gray says the players are "in a really good place" after beating Celtic and insists "they deserve all the credit" for the work they've put in in recent games.

    • But he stresses they are "guarding against getting complacent" amid the 13-game unbeaten run and are fully focused on Wednesday night's match with the knowledge a win will move them above United into fourth.

    • Gray is hoping his side can mathematically secure a top-six spot as soon as possible which will also give them more chance of "catching the teams in front".

    • On Jim Goodwin, Gray says he's "done an incredible job" at United, who are fourth in the league "for a reason". But the Hibs boss feels his team are heading to Tannadice "in a much better place than we were previously".

    • He wouldn't be drawn on Jamie McGrath's pre-contract and insists "he's still an Aberdeen player" but does admit he was "delighted" to get the deal done.

    • Joe Newell has picked up another injury that is set to keep him out for a number of weeks, which Gray admits is a "blow" given how hard the midfielder worked to get back on the pitch.

    • Hyeok-kyu Kwon is available after being ineligible to face parent club Celtic while Alasana Manneh returns from suspension. Dylan Levitt trained fully but Hibs will wait and see "how he reacts".

  18. 'A Hibs team built in Gray's image'published at 10:06 25 February

    Matty Fairnie
    Fan writer

    Hibs fan voice

What a weekend for the Hibees! A fantastic, hard-fought won over a Celtic side who are romping to the title extended David Gray's side's unbeaten run to 13 matches - the club's best run since the late 1970s.

It's huge testament to Gray and his coaching team that they have turned around an awful start to the season and built a side that exudes character, commitment and camaraderie.

This is a Hibs side built in the manager's image - unfussy, never about the individual, hard working and resolute.

Gray deserves a huge amount of credit for the boldness of his team selection. Adding Lewis Miller and Nathan Moriah-Welsh to the starting line-up despite neither having many recent first-team minutes was a brave move – and it paid off as both players put in a fantastic shift.

Moriah-Welsh showed why he was so highly rated at Bournemouth, and with Joe Newell back in the squad and Alasana Manneh returning from suspension, Gray will be happy to have a bit of a selection headache in midfield now.

There was the usual controversy that follows a Celtic defeat, but when you strip away the noise you'll see the victory was well deserved and it sets Hibs up for a real fight to the finish for fourth or even third place.

The fans serenaded the team off the park with Sunshine on Leith, marking the two-year anniversary of Ron Gordon's death. It was a great moment and one the players and club more than deserved.

Eddie May was absent from the dugout on Saturday after being involved in a car crash last week. I send my best wishes to Eddie and hope he has a speedy recovery.
