Ryan Giles is in his second loan spell with Middlesbrough

On-loan Middlesbrough defender Ryan Giles says he would consider making the move permanent.

The 25-year-old re-joined Boro for the rest of the season from Hull City last week, having spent the 2022-23 campaign at the Riverside on loan from Wolves.

"Of course I would," Giles told BBC Radio Tees on being asked whether he would like to sign permanently.

"Sometimes things like that are out of my control a bit, I've got to focus on the here and now, there are 17 games to go and just look to give my all in those and what will be will be."

After returning to Wolves in 2023, Giles signed for Luton before moving to Hull for £5m in August 2024.

"The last few years have been a learning curve for me but I've always felt that love here and it's never gone away, and this opportunity to come back was a no-brainer for me," Giles said.

"The move happened for me to go to Luton which was an opportunity to play in the Premier League - something I've always wanted to do since I was a little boy.

"Obviously there are also clubs negotiating things, so it isn't me just saying I want to leave, I want to go to Luton, it wasn't that at all."

The wing-back made his second Boro debut as a second half substitute in Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Preston in the Championship.

"The reception I got from the fans, I can't ask for any more than that.

"We're in a brilliant position, there's a really good squad here and the foundations and fundamentals are there for us to really kick on," he added.

Hull City's Ivor Pandur believes he deserves to be back as first-choice goalkeeper at the Championship club.

The Croat returned to the starting line-up for Friday's 3-0 win at Sheffield United after Carl Rushworth was recalled from his loan by Brighton last week.

Pandur had been left out by manager Ruben Selles for the previous three games in favour of Rushworth.

"It was one of the toughest moments in my career but it did happen. The gaffer explained his point of view to me and there were no hard feelings," he told BBC Radio Humberside

"I believed in myself from the moment I came here [that] I can do the job. Some things happen but you cannot cry about it, you have to pick yourself up and go again and prove you deserve to be there - I think I deserve it."

The win at Bramall Lane was their second in the past three games and lifts the Tigers two points clear of the relegation zone, with Pandur confident they will survive under Selles.

"It doesn't stop here - this is the right direction. We need to continue, we need to keep playing like this and we will have many more wins I hope.

"The way he [Selles] acts, the way he treats us is brilliant and it's paying off and I think it will get even better.

"It's a great group of characters, the best I ever saw and that will lead us to a great future."

  6. Hull City players rewarded for belief - Sellespublished at 22:59 24 January

Hull City boss Ruben Selles celebratesImage source, Rex Features

Hull City boss Ruben Selles praised his side's "excellent application" after they shocked promotion-chasing Hull City with a 3-0 win at Bramall Lane.

The Blades had lost just once at home all season and conceded only five goals in 13 games in front of their own fans prior to Friday's game.

The win moved Selles' side out of the relegation zone and two points clear of the bottom three.

"I feel really good because of the result but also because of the performance," he told BBC Radio Humberside.

"It's difficult to come and play and get points from here and I think we did a lot of good things today.

"I think the players fully believe in what we are doing and their application was excellent today.

"The early goal made it easier because then they had to open spaces. To start the game in that way gives you confidence.

"I hope we can build on this. Now it's important to take the weekend to rest a little bit and then go again.

"I think the team has a way and a identity, we can win or lose matches but the way has to always be there. I'm proud of that."

Sheffield United host Hull City on Friday evening (20:00 GMT) with the chance to regain top spot in the Championship table.

The Blades were league leaders after a 2-1 win against Swansea City on Tuesday, but were displaced by Leeds United when the Whites took victory the following evening.

Hull City lost 2-1 at home to QPR to drop back into the bottom three following a win for previous tenants Portsmouth.

    • United are unbeaten across their past seven league games against Hull (W6 D1), conceding one goal during that time.

    • Hull have won one of their past 17 away league games against the Blades since 1971 (W1 D6 L10), failing to score in each of their past three visits to Bramall Lane.

    • United have won each of their past three home league games against fellow Yorkshire sides 1-0 and will be looking to win four in succession for the first time since April 2006.

    • Hull have won each of their past two away league games whilst keeping a clean sheet, not since March 2011 have the Tigers won three in succession on the road without conceding a goal in the process.

Brighton have recalled Carl Rushworth from his loan spell at Hull City - and also confirmed fellow goalkeeper Jason Steele is set for a period on the sidelines.

Albion have said Rushworth will return to the first-team squad, with Steele due to have surgery on an unspecified problem.

Former England Under-21 international Rushworth struggled with injuries while at Hull but did feature in the past three games for the Championship side.

Brighton technical director David Weir said: "We have recalled Carl, with Jason Steele due to undergo surgery on a problem which will sideline him for a period.

"Alongside Killian Cahill, Carl will provide goalkeeping competition for Bart Verbruggen for the period ahead."

Steele has made five appearances for the Seagulls so far this season.

  9. Selles speaks after QPR defeatpublished at 23:05 21 January

Hull City boss Ruben Selles looks on from the touchlineImage source, Rex Features

Hull City boss Ruben Selles spoke to BBC Radio Humberside following his side's 2-1 defeat by Queens Park Rangers.

"I think the first goal put us on the back foot and the second happened so quickly, we didn't have time to react.

"It is important we analyse the situations and see what went wrong. We have to continue with the players we have and introduce the new players, some of whom are coming from not having competitive games for eight to 10 weeks."

Selles believes his team suffered a lapse in concentration in the build-up to Rangers' second goal.

"It can not happen. Cody [Drameh] can get beat in that situation but we were not ready for that quick throw-in.

"I think that it was more about the level of attention for the team - those situations are the kind of situations we are trying to remove from our game."

  10. 'Joseph can be a better player' - Sellespublished at 14:59 21 January

Hull City boss Ruben Selles has been speaking to BBC Radio Humberside about what he feels new signing striker Kyle Joseph can bring to the squad.

"I think Kyle is an excellent player," Selles said.

"He can run deep with us, he can be a better player - a player that is very difficult to play against.

"He can play as a striker, he can play in the two winger positions so, for us, we are happy to have him."

Joseph is the Tigers' fourth signing in January, joining midfielders Matt Crooks, Nordin Amrabat and forward Joe Gelhardt.

All three featured as substitutes in Hull's away victory over Millwall at the weekend - though the trip to London did come with a casualty.

Captain Lewie Coyle has been ruled out of Tuesday's game against QPR after suffering lacerations to his ankle.

However, the right-back is not expected to be out long-term and could possibly feature in the trip to Sheffield United on Friday.
